As an orthodontist, I feel I have changed lives, one smile at a time, by giving both children and adults the confidence to smile and strive for their goals and dreams. There are many studies on the impact of a smile, both on the giver and the receiver: all positive!

Imagine going through life feeling as if you had to hide your smile. Being unable to smile really detracts from your ability to make connections with others and erodes your confidence. People like these are the ones I LOVE to help I was one of them as a kid, and orthodontic treatment obviously had a lasting, positive impact on my life; so much so that I decided to become an orthodontist at the age of 13!

Dr. Severt strives to be the best orthodontist she can be, using different treatment modalities in order to provide patients with the best treatment outcomes. Through continuing education, she stays current on new technologies, techniques, and emerging research. Each year she attends orthodontic meetings, seminars, and lectures, learning from the leading practitioners and researchers in the specialty.

Upon completion of her orthodontic training and masters thesis, in 1997, Dr. Severt moved to Shelby, NC, to work full time in practice with Dr. Thomas Brown. After two years in Shelby, she felt the pull of Chapel Hill and returned in 1999 to work with Dr. Bill Davis. In August 2000, Dr. Severt purchased Dr. Davis Chapel Hill (established in 1967) and Pittsboro (established in 1980) practices.

Dr. Severt and her team members love supporting the Salvation Army Christmas Angel program. Each Christmas, they purchase gifts for 18-20 children in Orange, Chatham, and Durham counties. Additionally, Dr. Severt supports multiple charities, schools, and programs.

Dr. Severt grew up in Jefferson, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. She has called Chapel Hill home for so long now, she feels like a native. When not creating smiles, Dr. Severt is usually enjoying time with her husband and daughter, and the family cat, Jack.

Dr. Laura Jacox, DMD, Ph.D., joined the practice of Dr. Tammy R. Severt on July 1, 2019. Dr. Jacox brings her warmth, caring nature, and enthusiasm for creating beautiful smiles, as well as her passion for the science behind orthodontics, to the team.

Dr. Jacox grew up in the Midwest, where she developed a love of the outdoors, sweet corn, live music, and the lakefront. For college, she relocated to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she attended MIT. While in college, she played violin in the orchestra and met her future husband, Ilan, on a freshman year pre-orientation sailing trip.

Dr. Jacox then attended the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in pursuit of her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) as well as her Ph.D. While in dental school, Dr. Jacox fell in love with orthodontics the patient care, the problem solving, and the power of creating beautiful smiles. After graduating top of her class, Dr. Jacox focused her clinical practice on facial development and smile esthetics.

She pursued a residency in the world-renowned Department of Orthodontics at the UNC School of Dentistry, where she was recognized with the UNC Graduate School Masters Merit Fellowship. Dr. Jacox will continue as part-time faculty at UNC.

In her free time, Dr. Jacox loves trail running, traveling, and playing violin in the Chapel Hill Philharmonic and Durham Symphony. When shes not caring for patients, you can find her gardening at home with her husband and her 3-legged cat, Charlie.

I have been with Dr. Severt since she first bought the practice in 2000. In fact, I was the first person she hired after purchasing the practice. I handle the day-to-day operations of the practice, allowing Dr. Severt and Dr. Jacox to focus on patient care. By ensuring were organized and prepared, I help the day flow smoothly, so patient visits go off without a hitch. In addition, I also handle the business financial aspects of the office including accounts payables and receivables.

Im an Alamance County native. My husband Kenny and I have two daughters, Hayley and Kenley, and a son, Kendel. Im a big family person and enjoy every minute I have with my family. I like watching my girls play softball and volleyball, and my son play football. I also enjoy date nights with my amazing husband. I love going to church with my family and I am honored and humbled to support my husband as he serves as a Deacon of our church. God has richly blessed me with a wonderful family, along with a wonderful job and work-family.

I am so happy to play a role in making beautiful smiles! Its remarkable to see each patient change during treatment and finish with incredible confidence in their appearance. We have an amazing practice, with doctors and a team who do everything possible to keep our patients comfortable and smiling during treatment.

Russell, my husband, and I have been married for more than 35 years. We have 4 beautiful grandchildren! Our son, Rusty, and his wife Emily have two sons, Charlie and Henry. Our daughter Maggie has two children as well: daughter MiaGrace and son McCray. Outside of work, I like reading, cooking, walking, and best of all spending time with my family.

I attended Alamance County Community College and graduated with a degree in dental assisting in 1991. I worked in an orthodontic/pediatric office prior to joining Dr. Severts team in 1997. Working here for the past 20+ years has been a true pleasure. Ive enjoyed getting to know all of our patients and being a part of improving their smiles, and I feel fortunate to work with such an amazing team.

I have been married to my husband Keith for 18 years this March. We have two beautiful girls, Samantha and Lexie. We are very involved with school athletic activities, as well as high school chorus, and traveling with Lexies travel softball team. I personally enjoy reading in my spare time.

I enjoy meeting new people and building a relationship with them. Its a good feeling to be part of someones smile story. Im the proud owner of a Severt Smile, myself, and Im excited to help others achieve the same!

I assist Dr. Severt and Dr. Jacox chair side with bonding brackets and archwire changes. I also keep up with the various labs we work with and help create the fun contests for the office. One of my favorite things to do is use the scanner that takes digital pictures of teeth.

Dr. Severt is the best. She is so sweet and always takes time to help you learn and better understand things. My favorite thing about my job and orthodontics is that I get to help create those beautiful smiles and work with so many sweet patients.

I assist Dr. Severt and Dr. Jacox at the chairside and take care of all our wonderful patients. I have worked in the field of orthodontics since 2002. I began my orthodontic journey with Dr. Severt in May 2020.

I am a native of Saxapahaw and just recently moved back to Saxapahaw from Charlotte. I was a former Carolina Panther Cheerleader. I have two precious sons Tucker and Brennan, and a bulldog named Whiskey. When I am not at work I enjoy cooking, yoga, listening to music, baking, watching Carolina Panther football, and UNC basketball.

My favorite thing about orthodontics is that it is a friendly environment and fast-paced. Dr. Severt is kind, cares about each patient, and is very helpful to anyone in need. My favorite thing about my job is the people I work with. We have an amazing team and everyone is willing to help each other with whatever is needed.

I live in Burlington. I have a cat named Gary Frick, who you may see on the Severt Smiles Instagram from time to time. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family, friends, & church family. I also love to travel every time I get the chance.

I am responsible for welcoming new patients to the office and coordinating everything necessary to get patients started with orthodontic treatment. I assist Dr. Severt and Dr. Jacox during all initial examinations. I love learning each new patients story and why they have decided to begin their orthodontic journey. I am a native of Northeastern Pennsylvania. I have lived in Vermont, Florida, and just recently moved to Raleigh in 2020. My husband Sebastian and I have two cats, Mia, and Albee. We enjoy hiking, exploring new areas, and traveling. In my spare time I enjoy crafting with my small business and reading.
