Dr. Brice H. Takata was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii. The oldest ofthree children, he graduated from Waiakea High in 1996 after pursuing interests in golf, judo and playing the trumpet for the school band. After several undergraduate honors at the University of Southern California (USC), in Los Angeles, he applied to and was accepted into the College of Dentistry of the same school. Upon receiving hisDoctor of Dental Surgerydegree, he did a USC Pediatric Dental residency at the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles. Through the residency program, he was given the opportunity to teach at the Pediatric Dental Clinic in the USC School of Dentistry. Upon returning to Hilo, he joined the Takata Dental Health Center. He is married to the former Kristine Hayashi, also of Hilo, and is the father of Max and Trent.
Dr. Byun was born in South Korea and grew up in sunny Southern California. He received his undergraduate training at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)with a degree in Physiological Studies. He then continued his training at the University of Southern California (USC) and received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Dr. Byun moved to the Islands in 2003 and now calls the Big Island his home. He is an active member of the local Hawaii County Dental Society and his hobbies include basketball, tennis and watching movies.
Helen began her employment with TDHC as a part-time receptionist during her junior year in high school. After graduating, she moved to Oahu to continue her education at the University of HI with a Bachelors in Human Development. Two years later, she enrolled in the School of Nursing at UH for a second degree in Dental Hygiene in 1986. She returned to the Big Island with her family and has been practicing hygiene for 30 years at TDHC.
She's married and a mother of three adult children; two residing here on the Big Island and one in Los Angeles. Born in the Chinese Year of the Rooster, it is no surprise that she enjoys traveling to exotic destinations. She also enjoys sporting events on the college and professional level and hopes one day to attend The Masters, Wimbeldon, The Kentucky Derby or the Olympics.
Stephanie joined the staff in 1977 after graduating from UH Hilo. After more than 40 years at TDHC, she still thoroughly enjoys working in the business office. She is married and has two adult children. She spends her free time working out at Penn Fitness Center and keeping up with her many favorite TV programs like 'Antiques Roadshow' and 'American Pickers'
Shalen joined TDHC in August of 2013 after graduating from Northpoint Bible College. She loves spending time with her family, friends and puppies. Her interests include music, hiking and reading. One day, she hopes to travel the world and seek adventures to check off her bucket list.
Hana was born in San Diego and raised on Kaua'i. She moved to Hilo to attend UHH and graduated with a Kinesiology degree. She is an avid gamer who loves spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach and BBQ-ing.

Thank you, Dr. Takata for squeezing in my daughter on an emergency baby root canal. My daughter was having major toothache due to bad cavities. We were referred to a specialist and the new patient waitlist appointment wasn't until July 29th. I asked our dentist for a different specialist and was referred to Dr. Tanaka. Dr. Takata's team provided a fast, efficient, and excellent service. They took a look at my daughter's x-ray on a Tuesday afternoon and we were seen Thurs morning. Thank you, thank you!!!

Excellent dental group. The entire organization is professional and great with both children and adults. From the friendly faces as you walk in the door to the hygienist and the doctors the entire staff is enjoyable and professional. I highly recommend this dental practice. Both Dr. Takata and Dr. Byun are excellent.

Ok. Don't trust them. I know that they are highly rated, but they scammed me. They filled in one of my cavities, and then a few months later, they told me that I had more. They also told me that they saw those cavities before, BUT CHOSE NOT TO TELL ME. This isn't even everything, but it's already a bad business practice. Later, I suddenly move, and I went to a new dentist to get my cavities filled, only for them to tell me that I don't have any cavities. I thought "why did the place in Hilo tell me I have cavities when I don't?" Then, I realized that they could be doing this to multiple people, telling them that they have cavities when they don't, getting away with it, and end up charging people more. Don't get scammed, don't go here.

My husband and I receive excellent care at Takata. They always see us on time and perform procedures carefully and efficiently. The staff is very pleasant and their services are reasonably priced. We highly recommend them.

I have been very happy with the care I receive from Takata Dental. My dental hygienist, Helen, is the best. She is gentle, caring, and very thorough. I have a long-standing dental phobia and always asked for nitrous oxide from my previous dentist, but do not need that with Dr. Paul or Helen.

Best Dentist and staff EVER!!!! It's taken years living here in Hilo, but we finally have a family dentist! Dr. Takata and his staff are professional, knowledgeable, kind, flexible, and PATIENT! They are always ready to answer questions and have never made us feel awkward! Most importantly in our opinion, Dr. LISTENS to the KEIKI...especially in the numbing process!!!! We've had some extractions/teeth pulled and ALL GOOD!!! We have 3 children (ages 13, 10, & 11) who LOVE TO GO TO THE DENTIST NOW! THANK YOU DR. TAKATA AND STAFF! Continued blessings to you!

I'm normally nervous of going to the dentist but the staff is so great they help me feel comfortable. The procedures are quick. The hygienist is sweet. It's a great place to go for you and your family they are great Dr's, assistants and office staff.

The staff is super professional and friendly. Everything is centered around making the family and child(ren) comfortable. The waiting area is always clean and well-kept, there's children's books, and a tv playing cartoons. Love this office and its staff!
