Dr. Gregg Taira earned his doctorate at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry ('86) and began his practice in Gaithersburg, Maryland as a second-generation dentist. He has been practicing dentistry and making patients smile in the Montgomery County areasince 1986. With over 1000 hours of continued education, Dr. Gregg Taira believes in the importance of staying ahead of the curve both in technology and technique. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Association, Chinese Dental Study Club, and Mid-MarylandDental Study Club.
Dr. Gregg Taira is known for his gentle touch and sense of humor. Dr. Gregg Taira grew up watching his dad take care of patients and understands both the art and the science of dentistry in a way that few others can. He learned the importance of chair side manner and the effect that it has on patients.He understands the fearthat some patients have when seeing a dentist and has a natural ability to put them at ease.
For her 4th year, she was in the Diamond Scholaradvanced clinical training program, treating patients alongside the residents in the University of Marylands Advanced Education in General Dentistry program.Through an ambitious clinical curriculum, Diamond Scholars performed nearly twice as many procedures as typical fourth year students.
The late Dr. Calvin Taira earned his doctorate at Howard University College of Dentistry('63), running practices in Washington, DC and Potomac, Maryland. Dr. Calvin Taira practiced for more than 44 years. He was well-loved by patients and strangers alike.
Our last namecomes from the Taira clan, one of the four main clans ruling Japan in the Heian period. After a period of military rule, our ancestors moved from mainland Japan to Okinawa, and many generations later,Calvin Tairas parents emigrated from Okinawa to the US.
In honor of our strong family values, our logo is derived from the mon, or family crest of the Taira clan. A stylized version of the original crest is pictured here: a swallowtail butterfly called Agehanocho. The logo is meant to mimic the wings of the butterfly.

I have been going to Taira Dentistry for 16 years. We love everyone in the practice and it's the only dentist I feel comfortable going to (I'm a big baby when it comes to dental work!!!). We trust them so much that we send our children also. Recommend to everyone!!!

I was pretty nervous to get dental work, as I think many people are. Dr. Janine provided a different experience for me, setting the norm that it's ok to ask questions and that dentists will work with the patient to make sure they're comfortable with everything during a procedure. One thing that sets Dr. Jaine apart from other dentists that I've had is that she has answers for you when you ask them, instead of just performing procedures you are clueless about. She is genuinely interested in your dental health, addressing potential problem areas before they actually become problem areas.

Over the past year, I've been going to Dr. Taira's office on recommendation from his daughter Dr. Janine. I will absolutely recommend Dr. Taira and Dr. Janine for anyone seeking top-tier dental care. They are both highly detailed when it comes to teeth cleaning and will ensure the customer is in the best condition during any dental work. All of the staff are very friendly and will do the most to ensure you are comfortable during your visit! Personally I was quite impressed with the level of care they had for my bone graft and dental implant. Without them, I would still be stuck with my old retainer and tooth. Thanks to them, I now have a new dental crown which fits perfectly. I will recommend Dr. Taira and Dr. Janine to any friend who might be seeking dental care and hope they give both dentists the recognition they deserve!

Dr. Taira has been my dentist for years and should be the standard for every dentist to follow! I challenge anyone to find a better practice! I recently saw Dr. Taira for dental work and the experience was top notch as usual! He always makes the experience as comfortable as possible and does his absolute best to make it pain free! 10/10 recommend!

I have been going to Dr. Taira for more than several years now and received nothing but EXCELLENT patient care and service. For some people, going to the dentist can be an anxiety producing event. However, Dr. Taira and his daughter, Janine, always make sure that I feel comfortable. He is just so funny and I have a ball every time that I see him. I am truly glad to have these two in my life, they are some of the most intelligent and caring individuals that I know. They always check in with me to make sure that I am keeping up with all my oral hygiene routines. So thank you to Dr. Taira AND Janine (who will very soon be practicing as a full-fledged dentist) for always being on top of my dental health! I recommend them both wholeheartedly.

Janine from Taira Dentistry is hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. She took her time with everything that she did, and not just that, she went back and rechecked her work to make sure everything was perfect. All the other dentists I've been to always rushed whatever they were doing and did a mediocre job. When she asked me how my bite felt after a sealant and I said, "Good enough," she was not happy and wanted to make it perfect. Her words exactly was, "99% is not good enough." I couldn't have been more satisfied with Janine. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I have never been treated this well by a dentist and I haven't known what I've been missing out on. Thanks Janine!

My life long fear of dentists has finally subsided with Dr. Taira. He knows all of the little tricks that make the experience almost pain free and even enjoyable. He's also just a really great dentist- spending more time than any one else ever has and being really thorough. And he's very nice - as is his entire staff. Every time I go in they greet me like an old friend!
