Dr. Martin attended U.C. Davis where he devoted himself to biology, researching epidemiology, and studying smoking impacts on large populations. In 1997, he graduated with high honors with a B.S. in biology.
Dr. Martin pursued an early interest in medicine and dentistry, attending the Arthur A. Dugoni University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. During Dental School, he was active in research, community outreach, and leadership. He had the honor of becoming senior class president, and was awarded the Deans scholarship and CDA scholarship. He graduated with honors in 2005. Dr. Martin became enchanted with the challenge and learning opportunities in oral and maxillofacial surgery and was accepted into the Highland Hospital residency program. He sharpened his skills in the broad scope of oral surgery, including dental implant treatment, anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, pathology, maxillofacial injuries, jaw corrective surgery, and TMJ surgery and management.
In 2010, Dr. Martin opened his practice, Tahoe Oral Surgery and Implant Center, in Truckee and South Lake Tahoe, California, where he strives to provide his patients with excellent oral surgery treatment in a caring and comfortable environment. Since then, Dr. Martin has earned the distinguished recognition as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Martin continues to attend conferences and continuing education courses in his field, along with leading a dental study group in North Lake Tahoe, aimed at keeping local dentists abreast of new research, techniques, and technology in the dentistry profession. He enjoys challenging cases and making a difference in peoples lives by helping them regain their oral health. Additionally, he contributes to the community with free dental health days and is committed to the environment with eco-friendly practices and donating annually to 1% For the Planet.
Dr. Dan Martins dream of living and serving Tahoe came true after graduation and moving to Truckee. Dr. Martin looks forward to raising his family, playing outside, and growing his practice in the years to come.
Dr. Appelblatt grew up not far from here, in the Sacramento Valley. Her love of the Tahoe area grew out of numerous family trips to the Lake, where she developed an early passion for hiking, backpacking and trail running. After earning her BS in Biology from the University of Michigan, she returned to Lake Tahoe to work as a biologist with the Forest Service, monitoring amphibians and reptiles and their habitats throughout the Lake Tahoe basin. During this time, Rachel met Darren, a fellow Forest Service employee and outdoor enthusiast. They fell in love over long backpacking trips through the Desolation Wilderness and would later return to Lake Tahoe for their wedding.
After her time with the Forest Service, she began to pursue her interest in dentistry by working with an oral surgeon in Sacramento. Building on the experience she gained in that practice, she applied to dental schools with the intent of becoming an oral surgeon.
In 2009, Dr. Appelblatt graduated from the University of Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and immediately began her 6 year dual-degree residency program at New York University. At NYU, Dr. Appelblatt obtained her M.D. and gained impressive surgical skills including in-depth training in dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, outpatient pediatric anesthesia, and facial cosmetics. Her time at New Yorks Bellevue hospital also allowed her to gain extensive experience working with highly anxious and medically complex patients.
Dr. Rachel Appelblatt joined Tahoe Oral Surgery and Implant Center in July of 2015. She lives in South Lake Tahoe with her husband Darren,son Ryder, daughter Madelynne, and dog Baxter. She loves living in Lake Tahoe and enjoys all the outdoor opportunities that the area has to offer.

I have had periodontal disease for over 20 years and had lost a few teeth here and there. Finally I needed to make a decision and had 18 teeth pulled that were not in good condition. The treatment plan was clear with great communication from the staff. All my questions were answered in a timely fashion and there was no pressure to make any decisions until I was ready to do that. And it did take me a while. I am very pleased with my treatment and the professionalism, expertise, and kindness given to me from everyone at Tahoe Oral Surgery. I have a lot of anxiety just walking into a dental office, but I had to have a tooth extracted and an implant. I can't believe how smoothly this went. No pain at all! Everyone was extremely helpful ! I highly recommend them.

Excellent dental care and caring dental staff! I needed to have a tooth extracted and was very nervous about it because I remembered a painful extraction from decades earlier. While my mouth was numbing, Tracy explained everything that was going to happen and offered empathetic and comforting words, which helped to take my mind off my worries. Dr. Martin was efficient and sensitive to any pain, discomfort, and anxiety I had. The extraction was so much easier and less painful than I expected, thanks to their skills and bedside (chairside?) manner. That evening Dr. Martin called to be sure I was feeling ok and someone from the office called again the next day. I'm very appreciative of the procedure itself and the prep and follow-up care!

Broken tooth extraction. Went in to it very nervous but was pleasantly surprised by the service of all staff. Very professional. Total time in chair was ~20 minutes from numbing to extraction with little to no discomfort during the process. Highly recommend Dr.Martin and his staff.

I can't say enough about this place. I needed two extractions and I'm always anxious when needing dental work. The staff is so very nice and made me feel comfortable. I didn't have to wait long for the doctor and before I knew it, everything was done. Everything was explained thoroughly and if I had any additional questions, they were happy to answer them. I will happily recommend this place to anyone needing care!!

I just had my last two wisdom teeth removed here. The service is top notch. I really enjoy coming to this office it was my second time here. If I ever need more work done I will for sure return. They have such attention to detail, staff is very nice and explains everything from start to end. Always ask you if you have any questions. Dentist are hard to go to but this practice made me feel comfortable. Thank you!

My son had his wisdom teeth removed and everything went great. The procedure only took an hour and he was back to normal the next day. Only took ibuprofen once. Dr. Martin was very attentive and called to check on my son. Everyone in the office is very accommodating and pleasant. Will take my other son there in few years.

I had two oral surgeries during summer with Dr. Jackson and several follow up visits with Dr. Martin. They only one who took me almost next day with emergency concern. Everything went well. My only regret I didn't know about them before, I wish I would work with them from the beginning and avoid some my previous mistakes.

I had 2 broken teeth removed and a bone replacement added. I couldn't have had a better experience. It was professional and efficient. The discomfort and swelling after was expected, but not awful. Thanks to all the great staff.
