Dr. Martin attended U.C. Davis where he devoted himself to biology, researching epidemiology, and studying smoking impacts on large populations. In 1997, he graduated with high honors with a B.S. in biology.
Dr. Martin pursued an early interest in medicine and dentistry, attending the Arthur A. Dugoni University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. During Dental School, he was active in research, community outreach, and leadership. He had the honor of becoming senior class president, and was awarded the Deans scholarship and CDA scholarship. He graduated with honors in 2005. Dr. Martin became enchanted with the challenge and learning opportunities in oral and maxillofacial surgery and was accepted into the Highland Hospital residency program. He sharpened his skills in the broad scope of oral surgery, including dental implant treatment, anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, pathology, maxillofacial injuries, jaw corrective surgery, and TMJ surgery and management.
In 2010, Dr. Martin opened his practice, Tahoe Oral Surgery and Implant Center, in Truckee and South Lake Tahoe, California, where he strives to provide his patients with excellent oral surgery treatment in a caring and comfortable environment. Since then, Dr. Martin has earned the distinguished recognition as a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Martin continues to attend conferences and continuing education courses in his field, along with leading a dental study group in North Lake Tahoe, aimed at keeping local dentists abreast of new research, techniques, and technology in the dentistry profession. He enjoys challenging cases and making a difference in peoples lives by helping them regain their oral health. Additionally, he contributes to the community with free dental health days and is committed to the environment with eco-friendly practices and donating annually to 1% For the Planet.
Dr. Dan Martins dream of living and serving Tahoe came true after graduation and moving to Truckee. Dr. Martin looks forward to raising his family, playing outside, and growing his practice in the years to come.
Dr. Appelblatt grew up not far from here, in the Sacramento Valley. Her love of the Tahoe area grew out of numerous family trips to the Lake, where she developed an early passion for hiking, backpacking and trail running. After earning her BS in Biology from the University of Michigan, she returned to Lake Tahoe to work as a biologist with the Forest Service, monitoring amphibians and reptiles and their habitats throughout the Lake Tahoe basin. During this time, Rachel met Darren, a fellow Forest Service employee and outdoor enthusiast. They fell in love over long backpacking trips through the Desolation Wilderness and would later return to Lake Tahoe for their wedding.
After her time with the Forest Service, she began to pursue her interest in dentistry by working with an oral surgeon in Sacramento. Building on the experience she gained in that practice, she applied to dental schools with the intent of becoming an oral surgeon.
In 2009, Dr. Appelblatt graduated from the University of Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and immediately began her 6 year dual-degree residency program at New York University. At NYU, Dr. Appelblatt obtained her M.D. and gained impressive surgical skills including in-depth training in dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, outpatient pediatric anesthesia, and facial cosmetics. Her time at New Yorks Bellevue hospital also allowed her to gain extensive experience working with highly anxious and medically complex patients.
Dr. Rachel Appelblatt joined Tahoe Oral Surgery and Implant Center in July of 2015. She lives in South Lake Tahoe with her husband Darren,son Ryder, daughter Madelynne, and dog Baxter. She loves living in Lake Tahoe and enjoys all the outdoor opportunities that the area has to offer.

I am so grateful for Dr. Appleblatt. She provides excellent care. She saw me in an emergency situation on a Saturday and I was not an existing client. We need more compassionate providers like her in the world. She was so knowledgable and put me at ease during an extremely painful situation.

What an amazing office. I went to the dentist for a regular cleaning and they discovered an infection in my root canal. Dr. Appelblatt accommodated me less than 24 hours later to get the molar removed and bone graft performed. Almost 12 months since my surgery and it healed spectacularly. She and her teamed turned a scary and stressful situation into an easy process.

The staff were very accommodating regarding the appointment time, patient information, and always considerate of my needs and concerns. Dr. Appelblatt's kind and pleasant nature led to a seamless and painless surgical experience. I would highly recommend the entire team to anyone that would require a consult, treatment and guidance for all your planned or emergency procedures. I am retired dental specialist and the entire experience was superior.

I had my Wisdom Teeth removed at their office, and while I don't remember much of the procedure, I do recall the Doctor being nice and understanding after seeing that I had moderate anxiety regarding the procedure.

Friendly staff from the minute I walk in and after my surgery. Dr Martin called later that night to check how am I doing after the surgery that make a lot of difference compare to other clinic.

Dr. Appelblatt and Dr. Martin are the pros! Dr. Martin did my consult and Dr. Appelblatt extracted the last two of my remaining wisdom teeth. The procedure was done without sedation (of course with plenty numbing, I didn't feel a thing!). I swear, she was done in I swear under 5 minutes after I was numb. Everything went so smoothly and I am a very nervous and difficult patient. She put me at ease; I absolutely felt like I was in the best hands. After, the team gave me ice cream as part of my take home goodie bag, which I was not expecting and it was very thoughtful. They called me the morning after to check up. I am healing very well. I had very little pain recovering and I was back to work the next day after the operation. It was a super clean job. Overall it was my best dental experience yet. Again, these guys are the pros!

Everyone at Tahoe Oral Surgery was wonderful, from start to finish! They were as transparent as possible about pricing and copays, which is a rarity in this day of complex medical billing. They checked in to make sure I was doing okay the night after my procedure, and a few days following. THANK YOU, Lauren and Dr Appleblatt(and everyone else my dazed brain overlooked), for making this as painless an experience as a wisdom tooth extraction can be!

Dr. Appelblatt and her staff were wonderful in providing the care we needed for our special needs daughter. She and her staff were professional, friendly, and patient. She also suggested that we try to do the extractions in office rather than in a hospital setting (normally required due to our daughter's special needs) which she did successfully, saving our daughter the trauma of a hospital experience!
