Though many orthodontists begin treatment with children when they only have a few adult teeth, only certain cases require treatment this early. Research has shown that it is usually not needed. While early treatment may improve the aesthetics of a young childs smile, most young children will require a second round of braces once they have acquired all of their adult teeth. Dr. T.C. Hardy maintains a conservative approach to orthodontic treatment, aiming to save you and your children unnecessary dental work and the associated time and costs. Using a conservative approach, most of Dr. Hardys patients need only one phase of braces and the entire treatment is typically completed within two years.
Although he employs a conservative approach, Dr. Hardy is a Fort Collins orthodontist that also believes in the importance of bringing your child to an orthodontist at an early age (age 7) to ensure there are no severe dental issues that could be more easily resolved with early treatment. Early treatment can be beneficial and/or necessary for some young patients, but most children will not require braces until around age 11. This conservative approach saves our patients (and their parents) time, hassle, and unnecessary expenses.

After graduating with his BS in Engineering from Tufts University, Dr. T.C. Hardy earned his dental degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He went on to receive his Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) from Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY before returning to Tufts University where he completed his Certificate of Orthodontics and served as the President of his graduating class.
Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Hardy is the recipient of The Everett Shapiro Award in Orthodontics, as well as the Dr. Harold Berk Endowed Prize Fund for Excellence in Research. He has published and presented his research both nationally and internationally.
