Synergy Dental: Sean Ulm, DMD AIAOMT - General dentist in Lindon, UT

Dr. Ulm graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 1998 and has been practicing in Utah since 1999. He is committed to staying on the cutting-edge of the latest advancements in the field of biological dentistry, and maintains memberships with the Academy of General Dentistry, the Holistic Dental Association, the International Academy of Biological Dental Medicine, and the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). Dr. Ulm was the first dentist in Utah accredited by the IAOMT, the worlds foremost authority on toxicology and material safety in oral medicine.

Dr. Ulms calm, compassionate chairside manner puts even the most anxious patients at ease, and his constant awareness of his patients comfort during treatment makes every visit a pleasant one. His conservative methods and commitment to safe dental treatment make him sought after by patients seeking a more holistic approach. When he is not in the office, Dr. Ulm is an avid long-distance runner and loves camping, hiking, and adventuring with his daughters.

As Dr. Ulms partner at Synergy Dental, Dana has spent the past 10 years researching the connection between oral and overall health. This experience, and her passion for making dental treatment as safe as possible, make her an invaluable asset to our patients. Her knowledge and understanding of dental procedures enable her to spend the majority of her time directly with patients, planning treatment, answering questions, coordinating care, and researching complex cases. This unique opportunity to positively impact peoples lives is what motivates her to continue researching safer methods of treatment. In her free time, Dana loves gardening, wandering in the wilderness, creating with her hands, and soaking up time with her family.

One of the main tenets of biological dentistry is maintaining and conserving natural tooth structure.Naturally occuring, precious enamel is your bodys very best defense, and is better than any lab-created restoration. However, when decay takes its toll and enamel has already been lost, a crown or an onlay may be needed to maintain your tooths function. This iswhere the intersection betweena conventional and biological dentist lies. Whereas a conventional dentist is likely to crown a tooth with a compromised cusp, for example, Dr. Ulms training in biomimetic dentistry(mimicking the bodys natural function) gives you more options, including onlays. Onlays are superior to crowns in some cases because they enable you to keep all the healthy enamel on your tooth intactand remove only what is decayedor compromised. The result: a far superior restoration that maintains your natural tooth, looks beautiful, AND keeps your tooth healthier longer.

In nearly every case, Dr. Ulm recommends a dental implant rather than a bridge to replace a missing tooth. He has extensive continuing education and experience in implant placement, and takes the utmost care to ensure only the highest grade materials and techniques are used. The benefits of an implant over a bridge are many, but include:

Unless the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth are already crowned, replacing the missing tooth with a bridge requires removing healthy enamel and crowning those teeth. This is contrary to the philosophy of maintaining as much natural enamel as possible, and unnecessarily puts those teeth at risk for further problems. With a bridge, there are a minimum of 2 to 3 units to be concerned about, and like the Three Musketeers, its all for one and one for all. If one unit has a problem, they ALL have a problem. Therefore fixing a problem with one tooth likely means removing the entire bridge and replacing it. When the missing tooth is replaced with an implant rather than a bridge, each tooth remains separate and can be treated accordingly. When a tooth is missing, the bone in the area is unstimulated and therefore receeds at an accellerated rate. A bridge does nothing to remedy this problem, but a dental implant stimulates the bone much as the natural tooth would, which prevents bone recession.Good dental hygiene is much easier with an implant rather than a bridge. An implant allows the teeth to be flossed normally. The difficulty of threading floss underneath a bridge often leads to lack of flossing, which then leads to decay in inaccessible areas. This can eventually result in the failure of the bridge, which is not only expensive, but can ultimatelycause loss of the supporting teeth.

In some cases, a bridge is an acceptable solution, for example, if an existing bridge needs to be replaced, or excessive bone loss in the area reduces the possibility of a successful implant. In those cases, Dr. Ulm works with the best local labs to ensure that you get the very best bridge for your investment. He carefully selects the materials used to ensure they are nontoxic, and encourages materials reactivity testing to ensure individual biocompatibility. These efforts significantly increase the longevity of your bridge, the health and function of your teeth, and therefore your overall health.

I just have to say how impressed I am with this office. I had some specific and detailed questions about my son's teeth and the receptionist was incredibly thoughtful and kind in listening to my questions to determine if this practice might meet his needs. Most offices would say, "look, just come in for a consultation, I can't help you," but she took extra time out of her day to not waste my time and money, giving me a referral and some pointers about where to look to get my questions answered as well as to commiserate a little (she was so nice!). If you're looking for a dental office that will put your best interests first, you've found it. Thank you so much.

Update 2022 May: So it has now been a year since removing all the metal (safely) from my mouth, and removing root canals and having wisdom teeth cavitations taken care of. NIGHT and DAY difference in my health. This is a great office. I Continue to be grateful for what they do and how they do it! A+++ _______________________________________________________ Best Biological Dentist Office in Utah. I give this office an A+ and I'm so glad that they exist. I'm a 50 year old woman. My health has been decimated by poor dentistry from a young age. I just didn't know it. I accepted unexplained declining health for years, and finally learned that some of my issues could be due to root canals, amalgam fillings and wisdom tooth cavitations. Nobody wants to spend a lot of time and money at the dentist.... but if you find yourself getting deeper and deeper into a never ending abyss of health problems with no apparent root cause, you might seek out a biological/holistic dentist. (Watch "Root Cause." Read "The Toxic Tooth" or study the works of Thomas Levy or Weston Price). When I finally realized the likely connection between dental issues and my whole-body health, I visited three biological dentists in Northern Utah. Synergy was hands-down the best choice on so many fronts. Synergy has a knowledgeable and kind office manager - Dana. (This is utmost importance!!!!) The front desk/scheduling staff is ALWAYS cheerful and respectful and kind, all the assistants were extremely competent, and Dr. Ulm, is conservative (meaning non-aggressive), careful, super skillful, honest, and caring. (He actually checks up on you after any major procedure, and if you end up in a mess on the weekend - he is responsive.) I've been to both offices - in Lindon and SLC and both were clean and state-of-the-art. I also really appreciate Synergy's willingness to bill insurance. Note: Dr. Ulm is out-of-network. But if you have a lot of work to do (like me)....just getting insurance to pay for a small percentage of your services really adds up. They also have a great "in-house benefits" plan which helps you save on the costs of services. (It's worth it!) Synergy has made my journey with a "whole mouth dental revision"....less terrifying and completely do-able in chunks that I can handle. Both financially and emotionally. I've been so sick....and these procedures have made a big difference in improving my quality of life and alleviating symptoms that went unexplained for YEARS. Thanks Synergy!

Warning: you'll be sorry if you go to Synergy Dental. Dr. Ulm is very unpleasant, unprofessional, and unkind. In my opinion he is very poor dentist who has taken on the role of a natural dentist in order to get clients. He had the worst chair-side manner of any dentist I've ever been to.

The office is very clean, warm and inviting. The higenist did a great job on my mouth and didn't hack my gums when flossing. Synergy dental is verry professional and Dr. Ulm is an excellent dentist. He always does quality work. He doesn't try to drum up uneccesary work to make a buck. I always feel that he has my best interest at heart.

Mixed feelings. At the Murray office, the lead receptionist/office administrator was quite... rude. Why? Because I find it against common sense and conscience, especially, to be in the dental profession in 2021, and to still tow the crazy line of a contagious deadly airborn particle. Common exposure to environmental pollution, toxicity and malnutrition is the real cause of intensifying influenza pandemics. A truly inconvenient truth for consumers, debt slaves, and corporate overlords alike. At least she could have been polite and personal.

The best dentist office! That's the review. They are so kind, both locations are great and everyone is so knowledgeable. My kids had their first appt today and it was so good! My youngest has a lot of trauma with providers and he was able to ease in with Dr. Uhm and his staff! I appreciate that so much as a mom. :) A 10/10 from me and I recommend them to everyone!!

A few short years ago I read a book called the Gerson Therepy which then lead me to the Huggins Institute where I was lead to Dr. Sean Ulm. The dentistry practiced in Senergy Dental is unmatched, that is why I travel from Rock Springs, Wyoming for my genuine overall health. I want to thank Dr. Ulm and his staff past and present for being so professional and supportive you all do great thank you so much.

My experience at Dr Ulms office is always good. I originally came to him with a mouth full of problems and a lot of fear. My fears were immediately addressed with respect and competence. All of the problems have been resolved and I have been effectively educated along the way. As a natural healthcare provider, I avoid any level of toxins, so Dr Ulm's approach to dentistry is greatly appreciated. I never have to worry about being exposed to anything harmful. I have complete trust in the care I receive at Synergy Dental. That isn't something I've experienced at any other dental office.

This dental office is the best I've ever been to! All the staff is wonderful; helpful and kind! Dr. Ulm is fantastic. I don't feel like I was sold the unnecessary "drill, fill, bill" moto of most dentist offices. I will continue to go here and have my children seen here for as long as Dr. Ulm practices dentistry!

Great dentist and staff, great experience. I would have given 5 stars but they are still adherent to the fallacy that mask-wearing is somehow beneficial to society.
