As a native Staten Islander, Dr. Joe Merola graduated from the College of Staten Island in 2010 with a B.S. in Biology. He then attended Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, graduating with a D.M.D. degree in 2014. Dr. Joe continued his education, completing a residency and chief residency in General Dentistry at Staten Island University Hospital. He remained at Staten Island University Hospital to complete his specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry, and was nominated to be Chief Resident in his final year. After residency he remained on staff and now teaches as a part time attending teaching future pediatric dentists.
During his time at Staten Island University Hospital, Dr. Joe became involved with Healing the Children, a non-profit organization, traveling to underserved regions, such as Colombia, Guatemala and Africa, to provide both necessary and advanced medical and dental treatment to adults and children.
You may see Dr. Joe in various parks throughout the island with his best friend and dog Leo. (So be sure to say hi!) Otherwise, in his off time he enjoys going to the gym, cooking, trying new cuisines, traveling and quality time with his family.

My son Brian has been a patient of Dr. Joe's since 2015, when he worked at SIUH North. Brian is Special Needs and terrified of the dentist. Until he met Dr.Joe. He has such love and compassion for his patients. He has patience of a Saint!! My son Brian not only has a wonderful dentist but he has gained a new friend. The staff are so welcoming and kind. So if you are in search of a pediatric dentist, Dr.Joe is the dentist to go to to! You won't be disappointed!!

The office staff was super nice and efficient. The hygienist and Dr.Joe were AWESOME!!! Took the time to speak with my son and kept him calm and at ease. We just did a consult but their bed side manners were AMAZING.

Best pediatric dentist!! Dr Joe and staff are all kind and professional. My 8 years old non verbal autistic boy finally sat on the dentist chair by himself and did actual cleaning. no crying no screaming ever! Amazing dentist office!!

Dr. Joe is amazing and my girls enjoy going to the dentist now. My daughter had a terrible experience with a previous dentist but she now trusts and enjoys going to the dentist. The office is clean and staff is very nice. Highly recommend to any parent.

What a wonderful pediatric dentist office. The staff is simply amazing and super friendly. My son Big Joe is a 16 month old preemie. He had his first check up with Dr. Joe and Hygienist Amanda today. I must say the one on one interaction was phenomenal with these two fabulous medical professionals. My son received outstanding care. I recommend this medical office .

Dr. Joe is so patient & kind! I really appreciate how he takes the time to explain everything to a mom like me who worries about everything! Jessica has been our hygienist, and she is so great with the kids. The front desk staff is awesome, and always super friendly. My kids have left with smiles at each of our visits.

Dr.Joe is amazing I am so happy we found him . He was so patient with my daughter we just recently had the lip and tie surgery at 1st I was a lil apprehensive about it but once Dr.Joe broke down all the pros of this surgery I knew it was something we had to do .... main thing being is my daughter gets sleep at night yes this problem effects many things ..but he reassured me that she would sleep better and guess what he was right if your on the fence about this procedure do it ...we love you Doctor Joe !! Staff is the best office is super kid friendly and he delivers ice cream lol he's a winner

Dr. Joe and all of the staff in his office are awesome and I highly recommend this practice. My 2 week son saw Dr. Joe for lip/tongue/cheek tie releases. The office staff fit us in ASAP and were super helpful from start to finish. Dr. Joe explained everything and was super informative and caring. I would use him again anytime.

Dr. Joe is just amazing! My son is autistic and has some sensory issues and can be difficult. But Dr. Joe really connected with my little guy. My son was even cooperative. The office staff are friendly and patient. It's a win!

Dr. Joe and his staff are the best! I brought my son (5 yrs old) and my daughter (2 yrs old) for their first dental appointment in January. I was so nervous as they had never been to the dentist before. Everyone at Sweet Tooth made it so enjoyable for both of them. Dr. Joe was very thorough and takes the time to talk to the kids and the parents about any concerns. My daughter had a severe tongue tie that was, unbeknownst to us, causing several issues. After a few months of speech therapy she was cleared to have the tongue tie release. Dr. Joe and his staff was absolutely amazing. They made the whole procedure as painless as possible for everyone. It was literally a 30 second procedure and after about a minute they had my daughter laughing and giggling as if nothing happened. On our way home, we immediately noticed her speech changing. A week later at our follow up appointment, Dr. Joe and his staff once again made it as fun as possible for my daughter. We can't thank Dr. Joe and his staff enough for what they did for our little girl. Her life will be forever better because of them. Dr. Joe and his staff will be my kids dentist for as long as they let us keep bringing them. As far as we are concerned, there is no other dentist to take your kids.
