Dr. Pia Aragon Sweeney is a 1989 graduate of Georgetown University School of Dentistry. She practiced in Virginia Beach for two years before moving to her husbands hometown of Hagerstown, MD where she was in solo practice for nine years. Dr. Sweeney now lives in Virginia Beach while her son is in college.
Dr. Sweeney has hundreds of hours of continuing education especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry and endodontics (root canals). She is also certified in invisalign. She continues her commitment to advancing her knowledge and skills in the practice of dentistry. She is a past President of the Washington County Dental Society in Maryland, was a co-founder of the Tysons Corner Dental Study Club in Northern Virginia and is a member of the Tidewater Dental Association.
Dr. Bruce Utterback graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1979 and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1985. He served for three years as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Dental Corps at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk, VA and for one year as a civilian dentist at Sewells Point.
Dr. Utterback began private practice in Virginia Beach, VA in 1989. He continues to increase his knowledge in all areas of dentistry, but particularly enjoys educating his patients by performing complete and comprehensive treatment plans. Being an outdoorsman, Dr Utterback enjoys running, bicycling and kayaking.
As I reflect on what I think patients want, it is good clinical and diagnostic skills and an honest assessment of what my problems are and how to solve them. Ive tried to provide that over the years I have practiced and hope to have the opportunity to do so for my current and future patients.
I am originally from Kentucky and a true UK Wildcat basketball fan! I started my dental career as a dental assistant while working my way through college. After graduating with a degree in music and theater, I continued in the dental field by day and performed by night ! I lived in Atlanta for 10 years prior to moving to Hampton Roads, where I was the Regional manager for a large dental group with 6 separate practice locations, 28 dentists and specialists, and over 75 staff members. While I am responsible for running the overall practice, I will also be the person who will present your treatment plan, along with options, and discuss your long-range goals. I will help you work within your budget and financial means, and make certain we maximize your insurance benefits as well as determining the length of time your treatment will take based on YOUR needs. I have a beautiful adult daughter, Alex, who is my pride and joy along with my 3 fur baby children (dogs) and 1 Grand dog! Im a former member of the Atlanta and Virginia Symphony Chorus and still perform in local theater groups when time permits. Dec 29, 2018, I married the love of my life, Chris. After circling each other over 25 years, living in and having the same friends in Atlanta at the same time, then attending the same church in Virginia Beach without ever meeting, fate finally intervened!
I have been with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry since 2005. The closeness of our staff members and the patient relationships that we have established is what makes my job so fulfilling. I am here if you ever have a question regarding your account or have any questions regarding your insurance. In the meantime I will be doing everything that it takes to insure that all of your claims get processed in a timely manner. However, when Im not at work, I am spending time with my family. I have 3 beautiful children: Cameron, Makayla and Brandon. I cherish every moment that I get to spend with them.
My dental career started over twenty five years ago as a dental assistant. Over the years I have held jobs in the dental field as the scheduler, insurance coordinator and practice manager. I have also worked in finance, restaurant management, and sales outside the dental field. I have had the opportunity to live and work in Europe, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Hawaii, and Florida. I moved back to Virginia with my husband and son to be closer to our family here about six years ago. I started working for Sweeney Utterback Dentistry in 2015. Working for Dr. Sweeney and Dr. Utterback has been a joy because they are such talented dentists with a great staff. Dentistry has given me the chance to meet great people who have become friends. Its like having a huge extended family where you get to catch up with their lives each time you see each other.
Outside of work, I am running around with my 5 year old daughter and 7 year old son and being the keeper of my familys crazy schedule. On my rare free time, I enjoy traveling, good food, music festivals, volunteering, and always learning and experiencing new things.
Hi, my name is Kendra and I am the first person to greet you when you come into our office. I am from Rockford, Illinois. I moved here in 2017 after my sister convinced me to take the plunge. I originally studied cosmetology and still practice in my free time. I am new to the dental field and learn something new every day. I have a fur baby named Oslo and I love spending time with my family any chance I get to travel back home.
I graduated from Tidewater Tech in 2004. I was hired directly out of school by Dr. Utterback. I have been with him ever since, we work great together as a team. (Sometimes too great because I can read his mind!) I usually finish his sentences and always know what he needs next for all procedures. I enjoy working with Dr. Utterback and Dr. Sweeney. We are truly a wonderful office and I am grateful to work with two honest and caring Doctors! . I love spending most of my time with family and friends.
Mheanne Garcia has been working with Dr. Sweeney and Utterback for 8 years. She has worked as a dental assistant for over 20 years. Mheanne has great experience with ortho and CADCAM. She has a wonderful husband, Louie, and three amazing daughters: Alexis, Jasmine, and CJ. Plus, she is a fur mom to Daisy. She spends her free time hanging out with her family and playing Sudoku.
I received my training at the Virginia Institute of Technology and have been a dental assistant for 30 years, the last 10 with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry. I am a native of Norfolk Virginia and have been in the area most of my life, with the exception of a short time in Sacramento California from 2002-2006. When I married my husband Mike, I became an immediate parent to his 5 children (1 son and 4 daughters)! We now have several grandchildren. I also have 2 fur baby cats, Mama and Fella. I enjoy baking, collecting recipes, traveling and attending church any time the doors are open. I love southern and Blue Grass gospel music and am hoping to take piano lessons very soon.
I graduated from the Centro Escolar University in Manila, Philippines with a Doctor of Dental Medicine. I moved to the United States in 1998. Because dentistry, like medicine, does not always recognize degrees from other countries, I was unable to practice here so I did the next best thingI went back to school! I graduated from Old Dominion University with a BS degree in Dental Hygiene which I earned in 2002.
I am a Virginia Beach native. I graduated from Tallwood High School and received a Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene from Old Dominion University. I started in dentistry when I was a senior in high school, doing administrative duties. I then transitioned into a clinical position assisting the dentist and hygienists. Now in my 20th year as a dental hygienist (15 at Sweeney Utterback Dentistry), I work part-time so I can do what I love most: be at home with my two young children, Sydney and Brennan, and my husband, Mike. I also love to travel, read, and do photography.
I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist for almost 40 years and (starting as a dental assistant) have been in the dental field for over 44 years. I have been with Sweeney-Utterback Dentistry since May of 2000. Born and raised on Long Island, NY, I received my dental hygiene degree from the State University of New York at Farmingdale. I have been married for almost 39 years to my husband, Bob. We love to travel and I especially enjoy spending time with family. I also enjoy photography, taking pictures of all the wonderful places we have visited and also of memorable times spent with family. We have a four-legged child named Ollie. He is a 14 year old Miniature Dachshund who is spoiled rotten!
