Dr. Jimmy Wu is a San Diego native and began his dental practice in 2000. In 2005, Dr. Wu partnered with a friend who owned a dental lab, moved his practice to its current location, and brought all of his original patients along with him, establishing Sutra Dental Spa. Dr. Wu is passionate about serving his local community and has an extensive background in the areas of cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, and CEREC ceramic fillings. With his experience as a CEREC dentist, Dr. Wu has placed over one thousand porcelain veneers and CERECrestorations, as well as completed hundreds of full mouth reconstruction cases.
As an undergrad at UC-San Diego, Dr. Wu contributed his lab research to the advancement of biology and medicine. During this time, he publishing an article on MCL and ACL studies and interned at an on-campus dental office. In 1995, Dr. Wu graduated with his bachelors degree in biology. Afterward, Dr. Wu went on to earn his D.D.S. from the University of Southern California, which he completed in 1999.
In the fall of 1999, Dr. Wu moved back to San Diego and took over for a retiring dentist in the year 2000. Dr. Wu has logged more than 5,000 hours of continuing education since graduating from medical school, and he is dedicated to helping his patients achieve and maintain beautiful smiles. In addition to completing a year-long course in orthodontics and TMJ Disorder, Dr. Wu has taken courses in a wide range of topics, including cosmetic dentistry, porcelain veneers, and practice management. In 2002, he completed his CEREC training, brought CEREC technology to his practice, and is now a CEREC Doctor. In 2004, he completed laser dentistry training and has been offering his patients the advantages of these state-of-the-art techniques ever since. Dr. Wu is committed to continuing education to remain up-to-date with the latest innovations in dentistry.
Dr. Wu is an active member of many professional organizations, including the San Diego County Dental Society, the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Osseointegration, the International Association of Orthodontics, the International Association of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, CEREC Doctors, and the Academy of Laser Dentistry.
For more than 10 consecutive years, Dr. Wu has been named a Top Dentist in San Diego Magazine. A Top Dentist designation is a unique and prestigious honor bestowed on dentists who are nominated by their own peers in the dental field. Each year, San Diego Magazine prints the results of a balloting process initiated by the topDentists organization. Thousands of dental professionals are given a questionnaire inquiring as to whom they would refer a patient who had a dental problem. The nominees interaction with patients, experience level, pursuit of continuing dental education, and other factors are asked to be considered by the voters. Once the ballots have been counted and the nominees have been vetted to verify they are in good standing with their state dental boards, the winners are announced. Though born in San Diego, Dr. Wu and his family moved to Lake Placid, NY when he was eight years old and discovered a love for skiing. Four years later, Dr. Wu and his family returned to the West Coast and he began racing slalom and giant slalom (GS) for Squaw Valley at the age of 15. During his free time at UC-San Diego, he took up snowboarding for the first time. Snowboarding and skiing are still two of Dr. Wus favorite pastimes.

This dentistry does an amazing job helping you with all the fears and anxiety you may have coming to the dentist. I had a periodontal disease for over a decade that I struggled to overcome. After three visits (consultation, and oral procedure 2 visits), I finally got my issues under control and in a position to ensure maintenance that will keep me away from making my previous dental mistakes. It's a soothing location, with very peaceful sounds to help you relax. The dental hygienist is very informative and gentle with his work. Doctor Wu has provided me with all the necessary aids that allowed me to ensure I get my dental health back to a positive form. I couldn't thank this place enough after struggling to be consistent at three other dentists. I recommend this completely for anyone that struggles with coming to the dentist.

I have finally found the perfect Dentist! I have had a lifetime of painful dental appointments. No Dentist seemed to be able to numb me properly. Just the thought of having to go to the Dentist scared me to the point of complete fear. One last time I tried to find a Dentist I could trust and would not hurt me. I FOUND HIM IN DOCTOR WU!!!! Trust me, if you have had any dental problems, do yourself a favor and make an appointment even if its just to talk to him. The office is so beautiful and calming. The staff is wonderful and all about your comfort. After my first dental appointment, I actually got out of the chair and hugged him. He is greatest, and having a good dentist is essential.

Dr. Wu is one of the greatest dentist out there he is entirely friendly and is awesome at what he does all his staff are great!! Also doud or douad I'm not sure of the name but he is a funny and understanding dental hygienist the whole office is just filled with wonderful employees!!!

My experience at Sutra Dental Spa with Dr. Wu and his staff was great! Definitely the best experience I've had at the Dentist. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I had my teeth cleaning and 2 fillings done today. My dental hygienist was friendly and knowledgeable about his work and explains well of the procedure and recommendations to better my teeth and gums. The ambience is very relaxing and puts your nerves at ease. In addition they give you a hot/warm neck pillow to help relax and they even have an in house massage therapist who gives gentle arm massages which helps makes the dental experience even more relaxing and comfortable. I highly recommend Sutra Dental Spa

Been a patient for 12 years. I had some major work done today and it was extremely comfortable and professional. The arm massage and the upgraded movie system were top notch. The high-tech dentistry itself, the unique atmosphere, and Dr. Wu's chair-side attentiveness were on full display today. I could not imagine going to another dentist ever.

It was my first visit with this dental office. Everyone was very professional very caring to my needs. And I was pleasantly surprised when they have someone available to give an arm and hand massage with an aroma therapy pillow. This was the best dental visit I've had hands-down.
