Dr. Shepherd comes to our office with over 20 years of private dental practice experience. He was raised in New Martinsville, West Virginia and graduated from West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 1998 earning a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Upon graduation, Dr. Shepherd entered the United States Air Force. He was initially stationed at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia and later joined the WV Air National Guard. Dr. Shepherd served our country with over 25 years of honorable military service.
Dr. Shepherd is committed to providing high quality, gentle care to each of his patients. He strives to make each visit a positive, comfortable experience through open communication while addressing the patient's oral health needs. He also believes the patient should play an active role in developing treatment plans.
Outside the office, Dr. Shepherd and his wife Joey Beth enjoy spending time with family, traveling, cheering for the WV Mountaineers and Pittsburgh Penguins or just unwinding and taking in God's handiwork by the ocean.

Surfside Family Dentistry is the best, I never have to sit very long in the waiting room. Everyone is pleasant and gives great care to make me feel comfortable. Jeanette does a super job cleaning my teeth and is very helpful. Dr.Cox always checks my teeth before I leave. I love this place!

This was my second visit to Surfside Family Dentistry after moving to SC last year. I love the staff! Christian does a great job cleaning my teeth and Dr. Cox is very professional yet personable and takes whatever time is needed to address questions or give advice. Dr. Cox and staff are exceptional. I needed some dental work and a dental bridge replaced. I was very hesitant since I was not happy with the bridge previously done elsewhere and I have neuropathy which makes my nerves hyper sensitive. They went the extra mile to ensure I was comfortable and without pain during the procedures. My new bridge is better than I could even have imagined. My bite is corrected and it is perfect. My smile is beautiful and the bridge natural looking. Thank you, Surfside Family Dentistry, you are the best!

The staff here goes above and beyond. Jeanette cleaned my teeth and is so pleasant and friendly. I look forward to my next visit. Dr. Cox always checks my teeth and asks if I have any concerns. Never have to wait and they are always on time!!

This is by far the best dentist office my family has ever been too. They are efficient, on time, knowledgeable, super friendly, thorough with treatment and for the first time I do not feel like I am being rushed out of the chair. The lady up front who handles insurance (Karla) knows her insurance and helps so much with everything. I have to say the doctors and all the staff are like no other. I recommend to all my family and friends.

Brought mom in as emergency new patient for bridge repair. The NICEST staff I've ever met, very knowledgeable. Dr Shephard the dentist was great - such that I'm switching my dentist to Surfside. Private company, not part of big organization (i.e. they aren't out to upcharge you at every chance).

Very wonderful staff and experience for a first time new patient. Was nervous from past dentists in other states. Surfside family dentist will be my new dentist for the foreseeable future and changed how I see dentists! Highly recommend!
