Dr. Michael McMahan has always believed that having a good education has provided him with a strong foundation in dentistry. While in school, Dr. McMahan received the training and experience he needed to become qualified in all aspects of general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry. He has the ability to provide his patients with the care and treatments they deserve.
Dr. McMahan strives to provide his patients with the most advanced dental care available. He is committed to continuing his education and remaining an active member of the greater dental community, both on a local and a national level.
Born and raised right here in Oceanside, CA, Dr. McMahan now resides in Carlsbad with his wifeElan, who is resident musical director at Moonlight Stage Productions and a frequent musical director at The Old Globe in San Diego. They also have three children and a dog named Toby.
In addition to being a dentist, Dr. McMahan is also a violist with the North County Symphony, Moonlight Stage Productions, and the Carlsbad String Quartet, and he plays electric bass with the band, the Flying Mangoes.

I began my career assisting in 1975 with my father, who was a dentist. I have always enjoyed helping people and appreciate the opportunity to learn new and interesting things every day. I am the proud mother of seven children and six grandchildren. Ive been married for 31 years one of my greatest accomplishments! I enjoy singing in a quartet and in a band in my spare time.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Northern Arizona University in 2012. I've worked at Surfside Dental since 2013. I'm a North County native! Any chance I get, I enjoy traveling. Recently, I've begun doing dental medical missions trips. I became a Dental Hygienist for the joyof seeing someone's smile transformand to build relationships with my patients!
Growing up in Rockland County, New York, I've always enjoyed making people smile. I completed my Dental Hygiene studies at Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey in 2015. I practiced as a Dental Hygienist in New York and New Jersey for two years before relocating to San Diego. I initially moved due to my husband's former career in the U.S. Marine Corps; however, we decided to become permanent residents after falling in love with San Diego's serene atmosphere, lifestyle, and sunshine! My goal is to provide patients with exceptional care in a comfortable and professional environment. Outside of work, I enjoy going on spontaneous adventures, mountain biking, working out, cooking, attending concerts, and hangin' out with my miniature Australian shepherd named Jasper!
I graduated from West Coast University in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene. I have worked in various settings in my career thus far and I am very fortunate to be a part of the Surfside Dental team. I admire Dr. McMahan's passion for dentistry and the quality of service he provides to every one of his patients. This admiration has encouraged me to provide the same quality of dental hygiene treatment to each of my patients.

I always am treated fairly at SD. Though I may pay a little more i am never asked to undergo a procedure I don't need thus saving money in the long run.

I would highly recommend Surf Side Dental to anyone, everyone that works there has always been very helpful and nice. One time I knocked out my front tooth out at 3:45 and with in 10min of arrival I was already being seen. I left at 4:35 with my tooth back in place, they are a life saver and would not go anywhere else. I even got my wife to go there.

Dr McMann and his staff especially office manager Kelly are extremely professional , knowledgeable friendly. Fast response time very communicative. Not a big fan of dentists in general but highly recommend Surfside Dental for all your needs.

My long time dentist retired and I chose Surfside for a trial visit based on reviews. The initial experience was excellent, more specifically: (1) the receptionist was prepared for the visit , no providing previously provided information was needed (2) the hygienist did an excellent job, I've had experience with other good hygienists but this one was A+ (3) Dr Mc Mahan examine was casual, straight forward and drama free. In summary a good experience.

Everyone in the office is incredibly friendly and welcoming! I have been petrified of the dentist my entire life until going here...I'm still a little irrationally scared, but they have calmed my nerves immensely! Kristy especially is so warm and patient! She is very communicative throughout the entire cleaning/exam, and makes you feel very comfortable and safe. Doctor McMahon has a very friendly and pragmatic approach to accomplishing your dental plan and needs. I would highly recommend this office!

Such a wonderful experience with our new dental office. Everyone so nice and professional! Very pleased so far. Beautiful office space, state of the art facility. Dr, McMahon, dental hygienist Demaris, xray tech....everyone so very friendly and professional! Couldn't be happier! Highly recommend!!

I have always dreaded and avoided going to the dentist. Michael and Lyn have changed that for me. Each time I go, they care and check on me during the visit to make sure I am comfortable with the process. I couldn't ask for better. I highly recommend them.
