Dr. Jones, or George as he is known to most of his patients, friends and family, completed his training at the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 2003. He graduated at the top of his class and served as class president during his junior and senior years. After graduating, Dr. Jones immersed himself in his new career and tried to learn everything he could about the latest techniques and materials.

In fact, he completed over 220 hours of continuing education last year alone (over 10 times North Carolinas state licensing requirement). Dr. Jones is a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (the largest dental implant organization in the world), a diplomate of the American Sleep and Breathing Academy, and a member of both the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Jones has a passion for dentistry and continuously seeks out the latest techniques and procedures.

As he has become recognized as a clinician who is familiar with the latest in technology and materials, Dr. Jones has recently become a product evaluator and consultant to several dental manufacturers.

On a personal note, Dr. Jones was raised in Wheeling, West Virginia, and graduated from Wheeling Jesuit College with a bachelors in chemistry. After graduating, he relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he met his wife, Holli, a Wilmington native.

After working in pharmaceutical and medical equipment sales for nine years, he was hired as a regional sales manager for a dental manufacturer. After three years of spending 30 to 40 hours a week in dental offices, he knew he had found his true calling. With his wifes support, he quit his job, sold their house and enrolled in dental school. They decided to relocate back to North Carolina to be closer to both their families.

After reading the reviews, I COULD NOT BE MORE ANGRY AND DISAPPOINTED about my experience at Sunset Dental. Everyone is so nice and friendly, but they are unable to deliver needed services timely to a full schedule. Waited 10 days to get in to look at a broken tooth that was hurting. Took an x-ray and the dentist looked at it, said it should be ok for a couple of weeks until I can get it pulled. Then they tell me they cannot get me in for over a month, but will give me antibiotics for when it flares up. What? You just said it needs to come out in the next few weeks. Cost me a lot of money to confirm a bad tooth needs to be pulled and not fixed. Don't take new patients if you cannot fit them in for treatment. UPDATE: just saw my last dentist in Winston Salem today, tooth doesn't even need to be pulled. Got it filled and done today in 90 mins. Add bad advice to my list.

I was on vacation and broke a nice size chunk of my molar off. All the dentists seemed to be busy and booked up. Sunset was able to squeeze me in. Emily and Dr Aiken were phenomenal. I can't say enough about their professional demeanor and care of service. Best part was I didn't feel ANY pain! Thanks

I needed a dentist as I am new to the area. Before I could establish a relationship with one, I broke a tooth. I called this office and Beverly got me in that day. Not only was she efficient and professional, she was very kind! My next contact was Emily, Dr Aikens hygienist. I can't say enough good things about her. I truly hate going to the dentist. I hate the sounds and the whole process, truly gives me anxiety. Emily was very friendly and most importantly, knowledgeable. Dr Aiken came in and he certainly knows his stuff! Also, very kind and took all the time that I needed. He asked several times if I had additional questions. I was very impressed with that as the office was extremely busy. He took care of the immediate issue and I now have a very reasonable treatment plan. Thank you so much Beverly, Emily and Dr Aiken!

Outstanding dental care. They even offer affordable dental insurance (lower than the plan I had with Delta Dental, more coverage and they saved me over $500/yr). Thanks Sunset Dental!

If you are looking for a dental practice that puts patients first, I do not recommend Sunset Beach Dental. I purchased two cleanings (6 months apart) as well as other basic services for my husband and myself before the pandemic, a package deal. We both received our first cleaning, exam and X-rays without incident. We are only in the area on occasion and had planned to be there twice during the year to complete both visits. When the pandemic happened due to my husbands' comorbitities, going to the dentist did not feel safe to us regardless of sanitation practices and PPE. We were waiting to be vaccinated before having our teeth cleaned again. When I called to discuss either an appt. or a partial refund once our vaccine appts were scheduled, the office manager did not want me to speak to a dentist regarding this unprecedented situation. Dr. Jones and I discussed the issues and I was told he needed to confer with his dental partners regarding the outcome. Several weeks later he still has not provided me with closure or any information about this situation. The only reason I don't give this practice zero stars is their receptionist Beverly is kind, thorough, helpful and friendly. I suggest you search for a local dentist that is flexible, accommodating and cares more about their patients overall health and safety rather than the bottom line.
