Dr. Sunners is a graduate of the New York University School of Dentistry. He established his 30+ year practice based on the philosophy of providing patients with comfort, quality, and experience in all phases of Family Dentistry. His advanced hospital training at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, following Dental School, has allowed Dr. Sunners to provide his patients (young children and older family members) with cutting-edge skills, putting him at the forefront of local dentistry.
Conversant in English, French and some American Sign Language, he is able to communicate with his patients on a personal as well as professional level. His experience in working with the elderly and those with special needs, allows him to relate to special patients that face adversities, with compassion. He is kind, soft-spoken, and empathetic to all the needs of his patients. Dr. Sunners talks with his patients, not at his patients.
Through videos and brochures and consults, he shares information about dentistry, especially preventive dentistry. He shares his findings with his patients, often visually, using an intraoral camera, so they can see what he sees on a computer monitor. Patients are NOT kept in the dark about their treatment choices. They are provided with honest diagnostic evaluations and treatments explained in plain understandable language.

Ongoing continuing education and training is provided for Dr. Sunners and his staff to allow exploration of new technology and techniques, resulting in more healthy and beautiful smiles. He and his staff regularly take CPR and emergency medical training.
Dr. Sunners is a member of the American Dental Association, and the Massachusetts Dental Society. He is Invisalign Certified, Trios Digital Dentistry Certified and Academy of Laser Dentistry Certified.

I have been seeing Dr James R Sunners and his staff since 2012 and gave zero complaints. Have had all my cleanings and fillings there but also Invisalign treatments. Never have I experience any pain or discomfort. Dr James R Sunners and his staff listen to your questions and concern and will talk you through every step of the procedures. I would highly recommend having him as your dentist!

I have been a patient of Dr. Sunners for 27 years. He hasn't changed a bit in all those years. He still takes great care to administer a novacaine because people are afraid of it. He asks if you are doing okay a couple times during a procedure. He has the latest, most amazing equipment. He has always made me very comfortable having some difficult procedures.

I've been going to Dr. Sunners for a few years since relocating to the area and needed to find a new dentist. He clearly explains what's going on, treats with care and without pain! He even checks in post-visit to ask how my teeth feel. He's a great dentist, my experience couldn't be better.

Most of the crowns doctor sunners did for me failed. The last one that failed I tried to get repaired but he refused to stand behind his work and fix it. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.

My boyfriend found Dr Sunners through multiple online sources that gave him great reviews, and having gone to him over the course of the last month I can completely see why. It was after 11pm on a Saturday where I received a text from my mom that she felt like her teeth were all chipping off after a traumatic fall on her face and I was desperate to find someone who could help after hours on a weekend. Not only did Dr Sunners get right back to me that night, but he made sure I got all the specialist appointments I needed to get her checked out first thing on Monday morning. He followed up with me regularly after that to see how my mom was doing even though we had never met in person and she wasn't yet his patient. It was the genuine concern for her that brought me in for a second opinion. The first thing I noticed about Dr Sunners office was how covid safe it was. He had installed multiple IQAir air purifiers and his receptionist used tweezers to hand people a face mask. They tried to allow only one household in the waiting room at a time, and had every other chair marked off. When I did finally meet Dr Sunners he was patient, kind, positive, and not at all dismissive (which is something I've come to fear in healthcare). He went through each tooth and explained to me exactly what work needed to be done and answered all my questions on how he could tell. He made sure not to make a final call until after he was able to take the time to look at my mom's xrays. I especially appreciated his confidence and communication about what could and could not be done, taking care to address my concerns in the decision making. I truly felt much more at ease knowing that my mom was in good hands with Dr Sunners and his team and that they are as concerned with her teeth as I am. My whole family and boyfriend will be switching over to Dr Sunners office to receive his care.

Very good, caring, he takes his time and very gentle. His staff is the same way! I've been seeing Dr Dinners at least 15 years and he's been the same! For the past 10 years I've been living a good distance away but I won't even think about changing dentist. I would definitely recommend him!

Dr. Sunners is by far the best and most caring dentist that I have ever been to. He is very accommodating to scheduling and wanting to help his patients as soon as possible. He ensures that you have a good experience when you're in his office, and checks in to make sure that you're doing well after. For someone who doesnt love the dentist and can have severe anxiety thinking about going to the dentist, he always makes me feel way better. I recently got a crown and it was a great experience. I was so nervous before going in but dr Sunners and his assistant Diga made it so easy and practically painless. I was so nervous for no reason! Dr Sunners gives a skillful local anesthetic and talks you thru the whole process. His dental assistant Shannon was caring, poised and thoughtful. This is a great dental practice. We have been patients for 35 years!

I have known Dr. Sunners for many years. His dedication and expertise make him one of the best if not the best dentist in the area.
