Dr. Richard Sun is a distinguished and highly respected dentist, that has been serving the dental needs of the DC metro area for over 20 years now. He received his BS in Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and continued his studies toward a dental doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago Dental School. While at dental school, Dr. Sun was selected to a periodontal externship focusing on periodontal surgery.
Dr. Suns personal approach to dentistry, along with his detailed pursuit of excellence has established him as a health care provider that you can trust and depend on for the utmost quality of care. He has been recognized as one of the top dentists in the Washington DC Area designated by Washingtonian Magazine and Americas Top Dentist by the Consumers Research Council. Along with publishing various articles in local newpapers, he finds great reward in volunteering for such organizations as Mission of Mercy.
Dr. Sun stresses advanced education to pursue the latest techiniques and technologies in both general and cosmetic dentistry. His participation and passion allows him to provide the most comprehensive care, from simple fillings to implant placement.
Dr. Sun prides himself on really listening to every patient, and forming treatment plans to fit there individual needs. He views every patient, as a patient for life and values there commitment to proper care. Dr. Sun is fluent in both English and Chinese Mandarin.
Dr. Kelley Hu is a native Marylander, originally from Frederick County. She went west for her undergraduate education to University of California, Los Angeles where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology. She returned home to attend the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and graduated in 2005. Striving for excellence, Dr. Hu pursued an optional additional year of advanced dental training in a General Practice Residency at York Hospital in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Sicong Li is an enthusiastic and energetic dentist who is a newcomer to Maryland. She completed her undergraduate studies at St. Louis University and continued her studies at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine where she excelled at all aspects of general dentistry and especially enjoyed developing long lasting relationships with her patients. She graduated with Honors in Clinical Dentistry and was awarded the student merit award in Prosthodontics. She continued to advance her clinical training at a General Practice Residency at the Baltimore Veteran's Affair Hospital where she learned to treat patients with compromised medical history. She is an active member of the ADA and AGD. Throughout her journey, she has always believed in treating patients with the utmost compassion and always striving to create a safe and comfortable environment for her patients.

Doctor started a root canal, havent heard anything for 3 weeks I called to check what's going on they told me either I pay the full amount or I can't get it fixed, I'm paying oit of pocket, now I'm left out with a hole in my tooth and my gum swollen everyday, unfortunately I won't recommend this office.

Dr sun is the best . I can't say enough good things about dr sun and his team! I have been to his office for over 6years and refuse to go anywhere else. I have been a patient of Dr. Sun, Dr. Tan, and Dr. Hu at the Gaithersburg office for several years. All of the dentists (and assistants) in this office are outstanding. I am grateful that someone introduced me to Dr. Sun's office . I am getting better, more personal care at Dr. Sun's office than I did at a boutique practice in Bethesda. Dr. Tan replaced a crown that was done by another office - she was far more careful in measuring and placing the crown, and it is by far more comfortable. Cleanings are thorough and very professional. Unlike many other offices Dr. Sun and his staff never try to up-sell their services - they even discourage patients from seeking expensive (but not necessary) services. All in all, I am glad to have made the switch to Dr. Sun's office.

I needed to fix my front tooth which was chipped so I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Sun for the first time. My tooth constantly bothered me seeing as though it was so visible but after meeting with Dr. Sun for a fill, my confidence was immediately heightened and my smile had never looked better. He is an incredible doctor and is immensely helpful. I have never experienced better service from a doctor and would recommend him to absolutely anyone. Thank you Dr. Sun!

I have been a patient of Dr. Sun at the Gaithersburg office for years. Dr. Sun is a perfectionist in his field and he always insures that a procedure is done exactly right. This review is for Dr. Sun's Shady Grove office, which I've only had poor experiences with, not the Reston office, which I've had very good experiences with. During my recent annual teeth cleaning + exam, the dental hygienist, Chad, pushed for 4 bitewing x-rays to be taken prior to the cleaning and exam, which is against ADA recommendations, and despite my voicing my concerns about my radiation history. He also forgot to prop up and fasten the protective thyroid collar before taking the x-rays. Dr. Sun was very prompt in following up with me and taking the time out of a busy schedule to answer my questions when I expressed my unhappiness, but that those events happened during the appointment demonstrate carelessness and irresponsibility by the staff. One other note is that this office also uses round collimation for its radiology imaging, not rectangular collimation, which gives a much smaller dose of radiation. I would advise patients going to Dr. Sun's Shady Grove office to be vigilant about not agreeing to X-rays until after the exam has been performed by the dentist, double-checking that protective shielding has been properly used, and ask for the rectangular collimator to be used.

Dr. Sun has provided excellent service to my entire family (plus extended family) for 20+ years. His entire staff has always provided the personal touch necessary to make my parents and young kids feel comfortable and most importantly, healthy. Recognize that we all look for providers that go the extra mile to enable themselves as professionals to ultimately provide a quality experience to us as consumers. Staying on top of the innovations in technology in the dental field is something that I've seen Dr. Sun pride himself on because we, as consumers, benefit from that. Dr. Sun and his entire staff in both Gaithersburg and Reston provide that quality and beyond for us. The recent office renovations he's performed at the Gaithersburg location are reflective of that. There are no shortcuts taken by Dr. Sun, which is what we truly love. We fully trust Dr. Sun and his staff on any recommendations they make, as it has always been in the best interests of our health. He's never steered us wrong, which we have been extremely appreciative of. I've referred my entire company and many friends to him over the years and believe you will do the same once you connect with him. I'm happy to speak to anyone looking for a reference for Dr. Sun and his team. You won't find a better dentist in the DC area that has the personal touch that most medical practices have lost touch on these days.
