Dr. Carlos Dorantes received his dental degree from Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala, and practiced in his home-town for three years focusing mainly on childrens dentistry. In 1999 Dr. Dorantes moved to Birmingham and began his specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Alabama Dental School (UAB). UABs Pediatric Dental Residency is a challenging 3 year dental school and hospital based program; this gave Dr. Dorantes the unique opportunity to practice at the world renowned Childrens Hospital of Alabama. When he was not busy with patients or academic work, Dr. Dorantes worked as a part time medical interpreter at Childrens Hospital, an experience that shaped him for years to come and that strengthened his determination to always work with the undeserved. Doctor Dorantes successfully completed his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in June of 2002, and was invited to stay as a Fellow Faculty member for the Pediatric Dentistry Department at UAB. After completing his Masters degree from the University of Alabama, Dr. Dorantes moved to Yakima in the summer of 2003 to aid in the development of childrens dental services for the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic. Two years later, in a joint venture with the University of Washington, Dr. Dorantes helped to pioneer one of the first Rural Pediatric Dental Residency training programs in the Nation. Finally, in December of 2008, Summitview Pediatric Dentistry opened its doors after several months of planning by Dr. Dorantes. We are very proud of being the only fully bilingual Pediatric Dental practice in all of central Washington.
Doctor Dorantes lives in Yakima with his wife Mei and their children Benjamin and Camila. He enjoys teaching, hiking and cooking for friends and family. He is also a published author in a peer-reviewed journal and is committed to education, prevention of dental disease and access to care for children. As an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, he also enjoys attending meetings that enhance his training and introduce him to newer techniques.

My daughters love Dr. Dorantes and staff, they are friendly. Dr.Dorantes explained carefully and professionally about my child's dental problems. Even though we moved out of town, we still make appointments here.

Poor poor client service. I was notified right before my appointment that I needed to arrive 15 prior to complete paperwork. Had I known that sooner, I would have requested additional time off of work to arrive in time - I was coming from Moxee and I work for a school. I called while on the way and was told that if I didn't make it in time to complete the paperwork, I would not be seen. Proper customer service would have notified me of this DAYS in advance rather than an hour prior. I also waited 2 months for this appointment for naught.

I am glad you took the time to respond to my previous comment. However, my issue is not with "standard procedure" my issue was being notified/texted THE DAY OF the appointment that I needed to arrive 15 mins early. I received many texts confirming my appointment without information that I needed to arrive sooner. Just a simple piece of feedback for you to keep in mind. "24" hour notice would've been more appropriate and appreciated. Again, I waited 2 months for the appointment without this information presented sooner. Thank you.

I have been going to Summitview Pediatric Dentistry with my children for over three years now. They are always efficient and patient with our kids. The assistants are always thorough and Dr.Dorantes always communicates expectations clearly. We have nothing but good things to say and would recommend to anyone!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND... when you have had good dental care, you know what poor dental care is! SEE REVIEWS MOST RECENTLY because looks like most the 5 star are from 1-2-3 years ago. There were other 1 star reviews & they just disappeared since mine... Anyway, I think it is VERY unprofessional to speak Spanish with your assistant while examining my 4 kids when we are ALL english ONLY family. Then I have a child with 2 duplicate sets of teeth (baby & adult) their mouth is so jacked up now. EVERY OTHER PARENT OR FAMILY MEMBER I HAVE TALKED TO, PHYSICIANS INCLUDED, SAID THEY WOULD HAVE DEMANDED THE BABY PULLED LONG AGO SINCE THE ADULT TEETH CAME IN BEHIND THE BABY TEETH & UNDER HIS TONGUE. I have another child who has been seen by other dentists & orthodontists who won't touch him due to the severity of his swollen gums & poor dental hygiene but this dentist said he saw nothing wrong!? PRETTY DISAPPOINTED, JUST BECAUSE A PERSON MAY BE ABLE TO LOOK THE PARK, SOUND LIKE HE KNOWS HIS STUFF, BUT WHAT HE IS REALLY SAYING. It is so hard to find good care in this town anymore, SMH

The whole dental team is amazing. They make my child feel safe and explain everything they're doing, and of course she loves it because of the TV's on the ceiling.

Beyond grateful to have found this office for my two young children. As a mother the relationship between dentist and patient is very important, I want my children to be comfortable and also enjoy the visit. That is exactly what Dr. Carlos and his staff provided. Not only did they speak to me but they also spoke directly to my children to ensure they felt seen and well taken care of.

As a mother to a VERY dramatic toddler I'm so glad I looked around and met with several pediatric dental offices so I could find Dr. Dorantes. He and his staff are absolutely lovely and never pressure me or make me feel rushed in appointments and if they couldn't get any better they're very assertive in helping me with a wild toddler who HATES brushing her teeth or having anyone look in her mouth. They're always so patient with my daughter and especially kind to me in the office. A huge improvement from my other experiences here in Yakima. Dr. Dorantes is a very matter of fact and genuine dentist and I so appreciate his straight to the point explaining of procedures and asking for my input as a mother what I would prefer with continued dental care for my little one. He and his assistants are very thorough in making sure all my questions and concerns are answered before I leave the building. I'd give them 6 stars if I could. My daughter needed caps put on her top row teeth due to some bad hygiene practices on my part and just bad luck. I'll post the before and after just as a sample of what an amazing job he did fixing my little girls teeth. Truly a miracle worker!

My kiddo had to get fillings for the first time today and he was really nervous, not knowing what the process would be like. The hygienist was so patient and explained every single step of what she was doing and took away all his fear, and Dr. Dorantes was so kind and efficient as always. We've been coming here since our kids were babies and we'll never go anywhere else! The whole staff from front desk to back room is wonderful. Can't say enough good things about this office- my kids LOVE going to the dentist, which speaks for itself!

The best dentist for kids! I love the way everyone talks to my children while there, and how awesome they communicate everything to me. All of the ladies there are just wonderful and fantastic at their job, and Dr. Dorantes is the best! My daughter is so comfortable there, and I know my son will be when he is older too! I am thankful this was our first choice for our kids, because I can see us never having to change dentists!
