Taking traditional dental impressions requires biting into a mold full of dental putty, which can be an unpleasant experience, especially for patients with strong gag reflexes. Digital scanners allow our team to take dental impressions quickly and comfortably by running the scanner over the top, sides, and bottom of the teeth. The scanner will take thousands of high-quality images that will be used to make a highly accurate model of the patients teeth. They are also used to create previews for what the patients smile will look like once their treatment is complete.
Panoramic X-rays are similar to traditional digital X-rays, but they capture all of the patients teeth in a single image. Patients have to stand still while the camera moves in a semi-circle around them to capture the panoramic image. This helps our team plan orthodontic treatments because we can get a better idea of how the teeth can be shifted to create a beautiful, symmetrical smile.
Sometimes it can be hard to tell just how much progress your smile has made during orthodontic treatment. Our team takes pictures pre-treatment, post-treatment, and periodically throughout treatment to document the evolution of the alignment of your teeth. This can be especially helpful for patients who have clear aligners, as they dont get a dramatic reveal like patients with traditional braces do when they get their braces off. We love showing our patients just how much their smiles have transformed!
Dr. Michelle Mian completed her orthodontic specialty training at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where she graduated with honors. Before settling in Colorado, she worked in a variety of clinical settings and gained valuable experience treating adults, teenagers, and children. Whether using clear aligners or traditional braces, she knows how to help patients achieve the results they desire. We love that she has a soft spot in her heart for treating children with cleft palates.
She is incredibly kind, very down to earth, and understands that each patient has unique needs, and she makes the orthodontic experience fun! In her free time, Dr. Mian enjoys playing tennis, scuba diving, hiking, and dabbling in watercolor and acrylic painting, to name a few! Dr. Mian customizes her treatment for each patient to meet the unique needs of every individual that comes into the office.
What I love the most about my job: Getting to work with our team every day; they have taught me so much. I also love when patients get their braces off. There is so much excitement in how they love their new smile!
