February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.

Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.

While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

Appointment went well today. Right on time. Minimal discomfort for procedure. Headrests at this location are never comfortable and require much adjusting, which at best is barely tolerable. Have requested pillows in the past which proved to be equally as uncomfortable.

Beware shady billing practices! They will disregard insurance and attempt to make you pay a partial amount before leaving. Fluoride treatments might not be listed as a covered procedure, but with my insurance there is a maximum in-network rate, regardless of coverage, and it saves me money. I will patiently explain the situation in full, to no avail. They always argue with me for five minutes when I ask them to submit the entire amount to my insurance. "It's due immediately" "This isn't allowed" "We'll do it this time but next time you have to pay". Every. Six. Months. This last visit they thought of a dirty method to extract that extra money - the cost of the fluoride treatment as submitted to my insurance was five dollars higher than what was asked of me in person. In the end you got your money, and shame on you for it.

I was in pain and turned away by the director for a missed payment at another facility. When the receptionist booked my appointment she confirmed my insurance; the procedure would have been covered. The way the director embarrassed me and talked to me In front of other patients was so DEGRADING . When I tried to explain to him his misunderstanding, he became offended; and told me to get off the property or he would call police! I tried to explain that I was in pain and I was not asking for any finance but my insurance would cover, he rudely retorts: "There is pain medicine you can buy!" A missed payment Should NOT relieve a caregiver of the standard duty of care! I was treated terrible and would never recommend tho place!! I FELT JUDGEMENT AND DISCRIMINATION!! After Covid, a lot of People lost jobs, bills fell behind, that should not render foul treatment and judgment!!

New customer. Lots of handy locations, and getting an appointment online was easy. The office and staff were nice, although I sort of wish the stack of check in paperwork was available on the website (if it was, I'm sorry I missed it). Hygienist and dentist were friendly and efficient. Overall, a very nice experience even though my next step is a root canal. ;(

I had to schedule a appointment multiple time. They don't keep their promises. I have 48 hours, and they texts me to confirm my appointment, repeatedly. They then , call me three hours before the appointment and cancel again for the fourth time! They wanted me to reschedule again. I told them no, I'll look somewhere else. I was schedule for a parodontax cleaning. So I back to square one again! After 2 years of dealing with these no promises and reschedules. I would give them a negative review of minus 5 (five) stars review ,but they don't have that stuff here! So if you're looking for a good dentist and not looking for broken appointments! DO NOT GO HERE! Their location is 50th and Dodge St, in Omaha,Ne FYI!
