February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.

Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.

While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

Very friendly service, my dental tech was fantastic! They got me in and out in a convenient time, without feeling like a factory line. You would be pleased if you let Summit Dental take care of your dental health needs:)

Very nice staff and I was in almost as soon as I signed in, but I was a little upset I wasn't informed i'd need multiple visits. I came for a cleaning and to get my wisdom teeth pulled, I only had a consultation and had to reschedule the clean because they didn't have time and then I have to make 2 other separate appointments at a specialists office to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I figured I'd have 2 appointments as they usually need to assess for wisdom teeth but 4 different appointments is ridiculous, not ideal when I have kids I have to worry about more than myself and don't have the time to do all that.

I can't say enough about Summit Dental in Ralston. From the Receptionist, Secretary, Scheduler, Accounts Receivable to the Techs and the Dentist, I received nothing but kindness and informative treatment. They made me laugh several times and I almost forgot that I was terrified of Dentists. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

Carrie has been my dental hygienist for years. She is excellent and provides gentle, and professional care, always mindful of my comfort during treatments/cleanings. Dr.McFadden minds best practices and has referred me to other providers/specialists when the treatment I needed was outside her scope of practice. I have never felt I was over-provided services. Highly recommend!

This place is great all except for one tech. She is very rude and impatient if you have to bring in your children. She even made me get a referral to a different dentist for my child because he didn't want her to brush his teeth. She has no patience with children and is very rude. It was his 2nd ever appointment and he's fussy as home with brushing his teeth too I tried telling her this and she just says "maybe he'll be better off at an actual pediatrician dentist?" All because my 3yr old didn't want to have his teeth brushed. She came back with the referral while i was brushing his teeth. Didn't see the dentist at all just her. I was so disappointed and confused. I understand this isn't a true pediatric dentist but they still let me schedule an appointment for him. There for I wanted to take him here. He's a toddler he gets into moods. I don't think a change of location would have changed his fussing about his teeth being brushed. Then there was an office visit I had to bring him with me as I had no one to watch him and she was so rude about him touching things and over talking me when I was trying to reel him in. I get that there are things he shouldn't be touching and I was addressing the issue but she kept over talking me and trying to scold me child. Then she got antsy and rushed to get us out by making the dentist move so she could schedule my next appointment. Let's hope I don't have to bring him with me again otherwise I'm going to ask for a new tech to help us. Same with my sons next appointment. If you are allowed to schedule children as young as 2 years old here then expect them to be fussy and or have poor listening skills ALSO never try and scold or parent a child when the actual parent is already trying to address the issues that are happening with their children. 3 stars because I don't have issues with my tech and dentist but lost 2 stars because of this one tech who apparently can't stand children.

This place makes customers wear masks to have you take your masks off to be cleaned. What a Joke of a place. They seem to be lost in this. I will never go there again

DO NOT GO HERE THEY ARE VERY RUDE AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE BEEN TURNED DOWN. I feel as though I have been discriminated towards for the second time. Very poor service very poor communication. I am now filing a discrimination charge against them I contacted the better business Bereau I contacted there corporate. Once again not a friendly place for people such as me or my color I feel like this has become a race issue and I wanted the world to know this is important and people should feel comfortable going to the dentist not feel like your discriminating against me until next time is this what I have for now will up date soon

I absolutely love Dr. Kenny! I'm 60 years old & have never been lucky enough to meet a dentist who listened to me & didn't speak down to me. He makes me feel good about myself so THANK YOU! PS Love his dental assistant too, sorry I suck at names. Everyone was super nice except the first person who had answered the phone. She was ill informed & had I had an alternative would not have gone there. Thankfully that was only time I encountered that individual & everything great since then. Regret not knowing name of neg encounter.

This place has been a huge help with my dentist phobia . My experience began with Doctor Goodman. She was extremely patient, kind, she walked me through everything, I felt safe. Doctor Goodman gave me ideas and tools to help overcome my phobia, so when the time came to have minor work done, I was somewhat prepared-of course my anxiety kicked in but I trusted her. Since Doctor Goodman has left this location to further her education and career, I have held off any appointments because I am terrified to trust anyone else. Today, I pushed myself to a visit, it took a lot of mental preparation to drive myself to my appointment but I did it. Once my name was called, I was told "sit there", so I sat. My legs began to shake, my hands began to sweat but I sat there. The Dentist came in, there was no greeting or form of conversation. I sat in the chair all while the tech and dentist discussed what was wrong with me, instead of asking me directly. My nervousness kicked in, I started asking questions because I thought something was wrong with my teeth. The dentist came over to my side with tools, did not explain what she was doing. My breathing became heavier, my hands began to sweat even more than before. The response I got was "I can't help you if you're moving". I was so frustrated with the lack of communication, even greater my level of fear with dealing with dentists who offer little to no kindness or compassion to those who are extremely frightened. I verbally expressed my fears prior to scheduling my appointment and requested a dentist who can help with patients like me. Obviously, that was not taken into consideration or passed on. The purpose of this review is not to badmouth the dentist, but to bring it to her attention and make her aware that some people have an extreme phobia of the dentist. Your actions can impact the wellbeing of personal dental hygiene due to the lack of kindness and compassion.
