Its more important than ever to brush and floss regularly when you have braces, so the teeth and gums are healthy during orthodontic treatment. Patients who do not keep their teeth clean may require more frequent visits to the dentist for a professional cleaning. Adults who have a history of gum disease should also see a periodontist during orthodontic treatment. Watch the two videos below on the proper care of braces during orthodontic treatment.
What can you eat? Lets talk about what you shouldnt eat! For the first day or so, stick to soft foods. Avoid tough meats, hard breads, and raw vegetables. Before long, youll be able to bite a cucumber again. But youll need to protect your orthodontic appliances when you eat for as long as youre wearing braces.
When you get your braces on, you may feel general soreness in your mouth and teeth may be tender to biting pressures for 3 5 days. Take Tylenol or whatever you normally take for headache or discomfort. The lips, cheeks and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they toughen and become accustomed to the braces. We will supply wax to put on the braces in irritated areas to lessen discomfort.
To successfully complete orthodontic treatment, the patient must work together with the orthodontist. The teeth and jaws can only move toward their corrected positions if the patient consistently wears the rubber bands or other appliances as prescribed. Lack of cooperation following instructions and damaged appliances lengthen the treatment time so please follow instructions.

I have been coming here for 4 years now. Everytime I come everyone is very welcoming and personable. Such a great atmosphere and all of them make me feel like family. I never thought getting braces and my teeth straightened could be such a great experience!

Dr. Sullivan and his staff are very friendly and tentative to everyone that comes into the office. As soon as dental offices had the green light to reopen I was immediately contacted about rescheduling my appointment. They worked around my schedule between the two offices. After the braces came off, Dr. Sullivan noticed how easy my teeth were staining and gave some simple suggestions. Within a week, the stains were gone. I am not longer timid in showing off my smile.

I have gotten a pallet expander, braces, and a retainer all through Sullivan. Getting braces was very comfortable, and relaxing! Dr. Sullivan is a highly skilled, professional, friendly, detail-oriented orthodontist that is always quick to make any adjustments to make the experiences of getting braces, or any other treatment as smooth as possible. One doesn't truly know how simple, efficient, and comfortable the experience of getting braces or an expander is until you get it from Dr. Sullivan. He has made my smile look incredible, and the difference his treatment makes is a difference of night and day. The staff are incredible and are able to help you quickly and ensure your safety and comfort in the entire Sullivan experience. I can't recommend him and his team enough!

Hi, way back during the start of Covid my retainer broke. Panicking I did not want my old teeth to shift. What an amazing orthodontist! Worked on my mold, set me all up same day. I just wanted to say good people and efficient and this review is long overdue. Thank you! :)

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Sullivan and his entire staff. The price was right to start with and then everyone, every visit was so kind. It's a calm and quiet environment and so easy to reach and park for those that are always short on time! And the best part is that the estimated timing for wearing the braces was correct and now my 15 year old son has some really terrific looking teeth. Thank you Dr. Sullivan and team!
