What is a Periodontist? The word periodontal literally means around the tooth. A periodontist is approved by the dental board to specialize in the management and treatment of gum disease, periodontal conditions (e.g., teeth fractured at the gum line, and teeth that are too short or too long), and the placement of dental implants. Many people will need to visit us before or during orthodontics (braces), before a new crown or bridge is made, or when considering a smile makeover. Periodontists are regarded as the professionals with the expertise and responsibility for maintaining the health, function, and esthetics of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth and dental implants.

Dr. Rebecca Prescott attended the University of Illinois and graduated in the top 10% of her dental school class. She also received numerous awards for endodontics, and was inducted into the National Dental Honor Society (OKU). After dental school she obtained her specialty certificate in Endodontics, and a Master of Science in Oral Biology. Her thesis was focused on the regeneration of pulp (nerve) tissue. After residency she opened a private practice on the north side of Chicago, but her pursuit of quality in the field of dentistry eventually brought her to the San Antonio area. Since moving here, Dr. Prescott, her husband, and children have quickly come to love the warmer weatherand southern hospitality!

Dr. Prescott is a founding member of the International Academy of Endodontics, as well as a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the San Antonio District Dental Society. In 2013, Dr. Prescott worked (and studied) hard to achieve Diplomate status with the American Board of Endodontics. Dr. Prescott is now a Board Certified Endodontist, and takes pride in staying up to date with the latest research and developments in Endodontics.

Besides her clinical expertise, Dr. Prescott is also known for the compassion she shows her patients. When in college, Dr. Prescott minored in Spanish and studied in Argentina for a semester because she wanted to be able to speak directly with her Spanish speaking patients. Dr. Prescott is also trained in conscious sedation to be able to provide a more relaxing experience to both her pediatric and adult patients.

Dr. Prescott has a love for children and is very involved in foster care and adoption. She recently had the privilege of adopting two amazing siblings from the San Antonio area, making her family a family of 6! When not caring for patients, hanging out with her big family, or BIG dog, Dr. Prescott can be found outdoors or at the local CrossFit box.
