He wrapped up his training by serving as chief resident for his program and completing rotations at the St. Josephs Hospital and Medical Center Barrow Neurological Institute Cleft and Craniofacial Center. Phew! That was a lot of schooling!
He was also tapped to join the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University as an assistant professor for the orthodontic and dentofacial orthopedic residency program. He continues to teach aspiring orthodontists the intricacies of straightening teeth and aligning bites.
Theyre also active in their church, Redeemer Community Church, and have taken mission trips across the globe visiting everywhere from the rainforests of Uganda to the waters of the Amazon River all the way to the northern villages of the Arctic Circle.
Following this achievement, Dr. Williams accepted a residency position at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry Graduate Orthodontic Residency Programone of the top orthodontic programs in the country.
She earned an orthodontic certification and Masters Degree of Dental Science upon successfully defending her thesis on 3D printing. Through this program, Dr. Williams gained extensive experience with interdisciplinary cases and served on the craniofacial team during her time as a resident.
They've stayed active in Young Life throughout their marriage and cannot wait to see where they can serve in Johnson City. Matt is happy to continue his career as a biology teacher at Science Hill High School.
Dr. Anne Miller Harper is a native of Kingstree, South Carolina, where she was raised in a rural, agricultural town. She went to Williamsburg Academy from first through 12th grade. After graduating from Williamsburg Academy in 2011, she attended Clemson University. Dr. Harper studied Public Heath Science, concentrating in Pre-Professional Health Studies and minoring in Athletic Leadership. During the summers, Dr. Harper worked as a camp staffer for FUGE camps, a life-changing camp that teaches students how to jump into ministry and serve in their own communities. She met her husband, Walt, who was also on staff during her first summer.
After graduating summa cum laude from Clemson in 2015, Dr. Harper attended the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston where she began her journey of becoming a dentist. In 2019, she completed the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program, graduating in the top of her class. She realized her passion for orthodontics during those four years, applied for residency, and was honored to match at Virginia Commonwealth University. At Virginia Commonwealth University, she completed both her Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) and Certificate in Orthodontics.
The Harpers love time spent together and with friends kayaking, playing yard games, walking their pup and enjoying the hottest new Netflix series. They enjoy serving together in ministry and cannot wait to invest in their new Johnson City community.

After braces I needed to have a dental bar put on my lower bottom teeth. The. Staff at Sturgill Orthodontics were friendly, very professional and did a great job on my first visit. Would defiantly recommend this business to anyone needing ortho care.

Today was our first day meeting the staff with Sturgill's Orthodontics (Norton,VA) for our son's initial consultation. We were very impressed with the professionalism of the entire office staff. We met with Lauren and Dr. Harper during our visit and they shared with us all of the necessary pieces of information we needed to devise a plan for treatment. The facilities were outstanding. We felt very comfortable during our consultation and had a positive experience with the initial X-rays and "goop free" molds. We were presented with the option to schedule an appointment to proceed with the treatment plan but it just so happened that we were able to begin his treatment the same day. The process of applying his braces was seamless and our son was well cared for during the process. We look forward to the care they will provide him for the next 2 years.

I have had 3 kids with 3 different orthodontists. None compare to Sturgill. We had a great experience from being able to watch the braces being put on, timely appointments, flexible and friendly staff and of course a great smile at the end! I recommend Sturgill Orthodontics to everyone I know!

I have been very pleased with Dr. Sturgills work! His staff is always very sweet and helpful. He has made getting braces as an adult very pleasant and painless!!! He knows what he's doing and up to date on everything. He made this a great experience and was able to give me the results I wanted without surgery and in a short time. Hes a great guy! And let me add, Jessica and Sam are amazingly gentle and sweet!!! Thanks ladies for taking care of me!

Sturgill Orthodontics made my son's braces experience wonderful! I had their braces for a year and half and they helped if you had any questions, do exactly what Dr.Sturgill tells you and you or you kids might get them off early like me.
