He wrapped up his training by serving as chief resident for his program and completing rotations at the St. Josephs Hospital and Medical Center Barrow Neurological Institute Cleft and Craniofacial Center. Phew! That was a lot of schooling!
He was also tapped to join the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University as an assistant professor for the orthodontic and dentofacial orthopedic residency program. He continues to teach aspiring orthodontists the intricacies of straightening teeth and aligning bites.
Theyre also active in their church, Redeemer Community Church, and have taken mission trips across the globe visiting everywhere from the rainforests of Uganda to the waters of the Amazon River all the way to the northern villages of the Arctic Circle.
Following this achievement, Dr. Williams accepted a residency position at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry Graduate Orthodontic Residency Programone of the top orthodontic programs in the country.
She earned an orthodontic certification and Masters Degree of Dental Science upon successfully defending her thesis on 3D printing. Through this program, Dr. Williams gained extensive experience with interdisciplinary cases and served on the craniofacial team during her time as a resident.
They've stayed active in Young Life throughout their marriage and cannot wait to see where they can serve in Johnson City. Matt is happy to continue his career as a biology teacher at Science Hill High School.
Dr. Anne Miller Harper is a native of Kingstree, South Carolina, where she was raised in a rural, agricultural town. She went to Williamsburg Academy from first through 12th grade. After graduating from Williamsburg Academy in 2011, she attended Clemson University. Dr. Harper studied Public Heath Science, concentrating in Pre-Professional Health Studies and minoring in Athletic Leadership. During the summers, Dr. Harper worked as a camp staffer for FUGE camps, a life-changing camp that teaches students how to jump into ministry and serve in their own communities. She met her husband, Walt, who was also on staff during her first summer.
After graduating summa cum laude from Clemson in 2015, Dr. Harper attended the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston where she began her journey of becoming a dentist. In 2019, she completed the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program, graduating in the top of her class. She realized her passion for orthodontics during those four years, applied for residency, and was honored to match at Virginia Commonwealth University. At Virginia Commonwealth University, she completed both her Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) and Certificate in Orthodontics.
The Harpers love time spent together and with friends kayaking, playing yard games, walking their pup and enjoying the hottest new Netflix series. They enjoy serving together in ministry and cannot wait to invest in their new Johnson City community.

Top notch in all the ways! The environment was crazy inviting, clean, welcoming and bubbly. My daughter was well cared for and a HOT cup of coffee upon entry from the sweetest barista?! I could have cried. This tired mama of 3 sweet girls and business owner.. man, what a BLESSING the little things really are. We visited Sturgill Orthodontics for the first time today. The office is immaculate, and all the staff was friendly and welcoming. They even have a precious Golden Retriever naked Louie to greet you! I feel confident in the evaluation my son received, and they were even able to put his braces on right after the consultation. Carla, the treatment coordinator, was amazingly kind and helpful. All the staff and Dr.Sturgill took great care of my son.

They are considerate of the desired 'look and feel' of your teeth before treatment is considered "done". Very thoughtful staff. Scheduling timelines were sometimes tricky, but overall, the friendly service from all the staff and providers outweighed any scheduling frustrations.

The office was always friendly and flexible with us. The atmosphere was comfortable and my son enjoyed going there. They made payment easy. He just got his braces off today and his teeth look amazing!

This is such an amazing staff from Dr. Sturgill all the way down to the receptionist Savannah. The addition of Louie, simply amazing! He is so calming. Absolutely love Sturgill!!! I am fully convinced that they are the absolute best orthodontist in Tennessee!! All the staff from the front desk to all 3 doctors are simply amazing. Everyone is SO KIND and nice. They make you feel right at home from the first phone call that you make to even make an appointment. Cannot recommend this office enough!!!!!

I had met with an orthodontist prior to coming here and realized I wanted to meet with a board certified Orthodontist. I did my research to find him but had my first appointment with Sturgill Orthodontics on May 4th at 8:10 am. The office is absolutely STUNNING! The employees are so incredibly nice. I wasn't able to eat breakfast since it was a long early drive down so I made a joke that they may hear my stomach growl; they gave me sparkling water and a banana while I waited for Dr. Sturgill. They seriously know what they are talking about! He examined my teeth and called out things quicker than I imagined. He was able to answer my questions without even thinking of an answer, almost like it was an instinct. The other orthodontist said I needed off site surgical implants and had me driving back and forth to Kingsport. Dr. Sturgill and his team evaluated my x-rays and teeth, said I didn't need surgical implants (HUGE PLUS) discussed my treatment options and payment plan all in one appointment. They even applied my braces the day of my consultation and have number to text if you're having problems with your braces or other treatment. I really enjoyed my first visit with them and can't wait to continue my treatment here. Oh and they have the cutest/sweetest pup walking around the office. I definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for Orthodontic Treatment; Dr. Sturgill and his team are top tier! :)
