He received one star because no stars was not an option. They shouldn't be called family dentistry, because he is not good with children at all! Parents BEWARE and especially parents with children with any disability. We took our 6 yr old autistic child to see him. Before his first appointment we explained the entire situation to the doctor and staff. We told him he was autistic. They said they were able to help and so we made our first appointment. We explained that he is sensitive to sounds and taste. Well during the cleaning I asked for flavorless polish and they ended up using cherry or bubble gum flavored polish instead. We struggled a bit to finish but he was able to finish. I explained again about his sensitivity and so he said in the next visit he would make sure that it wasn't flavored. now this visit was very different. He did the oral exam checked for cavities etc. He turned on the polishing brush and the saliva ejector at the same time. This time my son was scared and didn't open his mouth. Dr. Chavis began to yell at my son and started to say thing like "We could have been done already if you would just listen". He told my son he was a brat and he was a "Bad Boy"! He didn't deserve a treat or anything from me. The doctor was very worked up for really a child being scared of a sound. He didn't act appropriately and if he was would understand anything of the spectrum, rather then stat yelling at a child, he would try to calm them down. After he attacked my son verbally he started to tell me that I was at fault for my child being the way he was. I was offended and saddened that someone in the medical field would have no knowledge of what AUTISM is and how to handle difficult situations. Rather then help a child though it, he would yell at them for being scared. I have talked to several other people who have also had their children state he wasn't being nice to them. It seems as if he acts very angry and mean towards children. A Family dentistry this place is not and he should reconsider changing the name of his practice. I wanted to make other parents aware of our situation to avoid having any child go though something like this. As a parent of a child with Autism, we deal with so much on a day to day basis. We do not need the extra aggravation from someone who mistreats a child simply because they were triggered

I first seen dr chavis about 20 years ago and have seen him ever since. Wonderful man & excellent staff! The other day after not seeing the Dr in a while i was able to make a quick convenient appt his staff had him call me back as i had a question within five min. Wonderful place esp if you have some fear of the dentist like myself. Highly recommended
