February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

I have a major fear of the dentist but had to come in for a emergency and I was able to be seen that day! He scheduled me for the following day to extract my tooth. He was so fast and was so friendly. If anyone is looking for a good dentist I highly recommend coming here. Just don't wait until it is a emergency like I did.

Just cancelled all of my family's future appointments. After dealing with the front office staff and sketchy charges from the last two visits, I was told by my insurance that we should find another dentist. I've had to have them resubmit to insurance 3 times for one visit. The last issue I was told that the office getting a quote from insurance was a courtesy to their patients. When I repeated that to my insurance they were speechless. When they are in network with insurance, they are legally bound to contract to give pre-auths. Additionally was told they could not contact our insurance as they don't have a relationship with them. Again, they are in a contract with them. Insurance also laughed at that as they had someone call in May -twice- for another treatment they incorrectly submitted on our account. I highly suggest to double check your billing. We sadly had been paying more than we should have. I'm giving 2 stars because we did like Dr Jeff.

I've been going to Stonehaven Dental for over 12 years. They are professional, caring, and kind. They have a great team! If you're the type of person who doesn't like going to a dentist office - They have awesome equipment that help makes your experience comfortable and easy. I love how they do their x-rays. They do NOT push product. They are knowledgeable, answer questions and give suggestions when asked. Thank you for having a positive atmosphere.

My son Mason went their for his first appointment ever at 3 years old and loved it! He was a little nervous at first but they put him at ease by explaining everything that was going to happen, what tools they were going to use etc. They even let him wear sunglasses because the light above was bright. They were patient with him when needing him to open his mouth since he wasn't exactly used to the why of it all. Afterwards he said the dentist was his friend. Great place for all ages!

Great place. I've gotten alot of work done here. Cleanings, fillings, root canals, tooth removal, a bridge. Everything has been great work. Professional and friendly. Good place, good work. Not a complaint.
