February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

While visiting our daughter from out of state, my crown fell off. Called Stonehaven in the morning and they were able to fit me in that same morning. I am very appreciative of their courtesy, promptness, and care in taking care of me!

To start out I have not been to a dentist's office in 7 years... I have been terrified to go from such horrible experiences. BUT Jen absolutely changed my mind. She was so gentle and careful, she made me feel like in her care everything will be ok! I will not go to anyone else for deep cleanings again. Thank you Jen for helping my anxiety with dentist offices!

First time coming to the dentist in a while and decided to come to Stonehaven. My hygienist was so nice about it and explained everything she was doing and why it was important. They were great to show me my x rays and where I had cavaties. I was so appreciative of that because I have been ripped off by dentists before. Super glad I came and was able to find a great dentist!

They scheduled me one week before my six months which means I had to pay for my cleaning instead of insurance. Checked the next scheduled cleaning appointment to find out they did it again. They don't watch for it and the receptionist told me it was my fault very rudely. I've never had this from another dentist they always watched to make sure it was six months out. They also didn't ask if I had recently done a full x-ray they just did it even though my insurance only covers it every three years. They also try to up sell you on a lot of things. Putting product in front of your dental chair with price tags like I'm at a store. The dentist also asked if my smile bothered me because I have some teeth that are not the same size as others. They would fix it. Overall the service was good but not the best I've had.

They really do a thorough job cleaning my teeth. Also, this dentist is genuine and honest. I've been coming here for several years and have never had him "cry cavity!" The people who work here are super nice and patient as well. Grateful I found this place!

Jenny was the best dental hygienist! Very thorough with my cleaning and willing to answer any questions I had. She also made sure I was comfortable the whole time. The dentist, Dr. Chappell is one of the nicest guys too and always takes great care of me and my kids.

The staff was super nice! They were super professional and knowledgeable, gave me all the information I needed about what was going on and possible treatments options, didn't force anything on me or rush me to make decisions, great experience overall highly recommend

Stonehaven is absolutely the best Dental Office I have ever experienced. Highly professional in every aspect. My dental needs are challenging and I have anxiety issues as well. Their care and concern for me as a patient and as a person are above and beyond. I definitely would rate 10 Stars if I could!! They included my input and their treatment plan is changing my life in ways I never thought could happen.

I had an excellent experience here! I was there a month ago for my cleaning preventative and it was great, and today I was back to do a crown seat in one of my teht. I really recommend The doctor and the staff are very good

Update: they told me they were in network and performed a crown and then I found out they weren't... Everyone was welcoming and very understanding on our situation as well as our insurance. They were very thorough when they did their cleaning and for the first time ever in my life, they showed me and explained to me the pictures they took of my teeth and the x-rays. Very happy and glad I chose them as my dental office.

Stonehaven in Saratoga is the best! They always make you feel valued and important. I don't get numbed when getting my fillings done and they are very careful and keep asking to make sure I'm still okay. I would highly recommend you going there!
