February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

This dental office is amazing! I had a deep phobia of going to the dentist. I put it going for years and as a result accrued many cavities and needing crowns and such, but when I came here everyone worked with me to help my teeth but also relieve my stress. The dentist, the dental assistants, the hygienists and the front desk workers were all super kind and helpful. I had a 10 out of 10 experience each visit and I've been a few times in the past couple of months because of all the dental work I needed to have done. They also worked with my insurance company and the prices were really fair. Would highly recommend<3

Great experience. They were friendly and efficient. My cleaning was quick and painless. They informed me of things that needed attention and even offered a payment plan to help with the cost of some of the work that I will need. I'm happy to have a close dentist that makes the experience easy.

This was one of the best experiences I've had at the dentist as an adult. The dentist was very kind and asked me what I was nervous about before getting a cavity fixed. He walked me through every step and was very friendly. I was so nervous about getting shots but he made it easy. Thank you!!

At first they were great but the last couple of years they've really gone down hill in their service. Top it off with them cancelling my appointment 15 minutes before it was time, an appointment that I've waited a month for to get a replacement on a filling that fell out. Totally uncaring and unapologetic, they wanted me to wait another month for another appointment instead of trying to accommodate me for their issues. I will no longer be going to them.

Orem Stonehaven is amazing! I've been going to them for 4-5 years now. I had a fear of the dentist growing up and dreaded going to the dentist. I had a lot of dental work to be done when starting at Stonehaven and I was terrified but they took care of everything. I've been getting my 6 month cleanings religiously since and have had zero cavities/dental problems, and I no longer have anxiety about going to the dentist.

I've been coming to Stonehaven in Orem for over 10 years. The office staff is amazing and helpful, and all of the doctors, hygienists, and assistance are great. There is a friendly and comfortable environment. They go above and beyond to ensure their patients have the best experience possible. I would give more stars than 5 if they were available.

Please don't go to this location, they are super nice and friendly but they do tend to give you more cavities then you actually have me and my family have been going there regularly and I always had cavities or something else wrong, one time they where booked so I scheduled with one about 30/45 minutes away and when they checked me and my family teeth not one of use had a cavity, so I got curious and went back to stonehaven not even three weeks later and every one of us had a cavity. Please don't remove my review like the lsat one.
