February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

We had a great experience at Stonehaven Dental. We hadn't been to the dentist since January 2020. We needed to find a new dentist, then covid hit, and it just got pushed to the side. I got on Google and found dentist offices near me, with great reviews. I'm glad I decided to come here. The staff is fantastic, and Dr. Plika was also great. Thanks for making the transition to your office so easy!

I'm a new patient and really don't like to go to the dentist, but needed a much overdue cleaning and exam. When I arrived I was greeted immediately told who would be my technician and within less than 5 minutes my technician Hallie came out and got me, she was very professional and courteous she would tell me exactly what was happening always checking to make sure I was comfortable. Then after my cleaning the doctor came in and did his exam gave me care plan and was just wonderful. I will recommend this office to my friends and family.

They gave me and my boyfriend a quote on price. After the service a month later, mine was $700 more than quoted. My boyfriend's after two months was $800 more than quoted. And by a month later I mean, I got a call or text saying I owed a lot of money a month after the cavity was filled. We had already paid $800 for the work, but now owe about $1500 more. ROBBERY AND CROOKEDNESS!!!! Will be telling anyone I know to NOT GO HERE!!!!!!

My experience with Stonehaven Dental has been the best experience I've had with a dentist in my life. Past experiences with other dentists led me to not want to come back to them. Coming to Stonehaven Dental is relaxing. They are helpful through the entire process, from assessing the issues and going over the costs. The dental assistants are very pleasant and caring. Dr. Plicka is very confident, professional and knowledable keeping me informed through each procedure, which makes it easy to relax and trust him. I've been through a couple major procedures at Stonehaven and everything came out better than expected, with no issues at all. Going to the dentist can be a very stressful and anxious experience. I highly recommend Stonehaven Dental simply because they go to great lengths to make the experience as calm and pleasant as possible while offering the highest quality in dentistry.

Staff is amazing, friendly, they don't ask questions that aren't yes or no so you're not sitting in awkward silence waiting for them to finish, while you're obligated to answer. Quick, efficient, best office I've been to in years.

Dr. Plicka is an absolutely amazing dentist. I have had some pretty awful looking teeth And I have had horrible experiences in the past with going into the dentist. When I came here for the first time I knew I would NEVER go anywhere else. He was so kind, and made me feel super comfortable even though I went in expecting just another horrible experience. But not here! Nope absolutely amazing I do not get anxiety going into the dentist anymore. And after 10 years of hating the way my teeth look... I am now excited to smile and happy with the way my teeth look and it's all thanks to Dr. Plicka!! Thank you for all that you! I wish I could give this place a 10/5 stars! Everyone in this office is absolutely outstanding!!!

stonehaven has always treated me very well. they have great prices. a very friendly staff. and they treat you like a friend. some offices don't take time to have a conversation with you but this office does. i went to my first appt crying in complete fear, to referring everyone and their dog and counting down the days till my next cleaning. i actually look forward to the dentist.

I love the friendly staff and thought Hailey was excellent and did a great job telling what was going on and cheerful throughout the exam. I like the other staff as well. This was the company (Stonehaven Dental) that made themselves available during Covid times for I had an emergency and i called everywhere and they were the only ones that would help. They do a great job performing whatever procedure and i like the overall feel of everything. I recommend this office in Midvale in the Harmons parking lot for anyone who wants an excellent experience and care and a job well done for their dental needs.
