February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

After bad experiences with our regular dentist, Dr. Skinner saw my daughter as a new patient (same day). He took his time, even addressing a cosmetic concern because of upcoming pictures and a silver cap. The ladies at the front desk were very helpful. I really appreciate everyone here!

I had some work done here that I was accidentally overcharged for. While it took longer than it should have to get it straightened out, Tina stuck with it and got it taken care of, which I appreciate. I wasn't sure if I wanted to switch dentists to someone closer, and to avoid the possible discomfort of returning after the original complaint stretched out for so long, however, I went back and was glad I did. The new hygenist (Sadie) is awesome, and the rest of the staff were great.

Elise's experience is exactly what these guys do. All their offices are thieves. Took our boys to the lehi office, and they told us that they all these cavities and that they need root canals, and we went and got a second opinion and the boys needed no work done. My sister took my niece to the eagle Mountain one, and they told her that she had a lot of cavities and that she needed to have 2 root canals done. She scheduled the next appointment, and luckily the main dentist wasn't in, and the emergency doctor they called to fill in looked, and told my sister that it's a minor cavity. My sister happened to tell this story to my wife, and my wife told her to cancel all future appointments and to never go back. These guys are thieves. Always get a second opinion.

Everyone is going to have their own opinion, which makes reviews tricky. I'll just share why I won't be going back to this dentistry, take it or leave it. I really only scheduled with this dentistry because they are close to home. I have no complaints about their dental work or dental cleaning services. However, I was told that I would need 2 root canals and crowns. I got a second opinion, and ended up just having the fillings repaired with another dentist- saving me thousands of dollars. So I immediately lost trust in Stonehaven, knowing that they were going after my money. I had already signed up for their smiles 360 program, so I went back for my routine cleaning. They made me get x-rays when I told them I did not feel comfortable with it. They said they REQUIRE it for their own liability. I get it. If they have had bad experiences in the past, then they gotta do what they gotta do. However, if you are uncomfortable with x-rays, then this dentistry is not for you. It was uncomfortable and degrading to not have my adult wishes respected and demanding that I do something that I'm not ok with. It would have been preferred if they would have told me that up front and BEFORE they went ahead and did all of the cleaning putting me in a position where I felt obligated and couldnt in good conscious get up and walk out. So I will not be returning to this dentistry for that reason. I know that there are other dentists that are respectful of their clientele. I was also put off by a phone conversation that I overheard between the receptionist at Stonehaven and a clearly upset customer. I was skeptical after the attitude and unpleasant exchange. Not a great first impression. Not a good during impression. Not a good last impression. I don't recommend this dentistry because I'm just not down with their way of doing business.

Was my first time there ever and got an exam and cleaning. The staff was friendly, the facility was clean. My hygienist was super sweet and did a very good job at keeping me comfortable like asking every one in a while if I was doing okay.

Best experience I have ever had at the dentist. I have had the best customer service and everyone is friendly. Its not that fake friendly its truly a real kind friendly welcome. Up front about my bills willing to work with me. My whole family goes and is willing to get us all in at the same time. Very clean. This was my old experience until all the staff left and now it's nothing but rude, never smile, lie about what is covered on insurance. Told me I need work they forgot that I needed work and work I needed when book a appointment. Never going back so sad that all the good staff left including the dentist.
