February has been designated Gum Disease Awareness Month! Initially launched by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry, its purpose is to raise awareness about gum disease and encourage healthy dental habits to prevent it.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gum disease, also referred to as periodontitis, is the result of infections and inflammation of the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages, the gums can become swollen and red, and they may bleed. As it progresses, the gums can pull away from the tooth, which can eventually result in bone and tooth loss. Not only does gum disease affect your mouth, it can affect your body as well. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are important to ensure everything is healthy.
Periodontal disease is mostly seen in adults, with 47.2% of those aged 30 years and older having some form of it. This risk only increases with age. On top of age, there are many other risk factors that can increase your chance of developing gum disease. One of the primary risk factors is smoking, followed by poor oral hygiene, diabetes, stress, hormonal changes and medications that cause dry mouth.
While gum disease starts in the mouth, when left untreated, it can start affecting many other parts of the body as well. This includes respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease and diabetes.

I had an emergency dental need and I could find no area dentist to accommodate my need, not even my regular dentist, Stonehaven Dental came to the rescue. l am now happy to be one of their newest and ongoing patients

This office is poorly managed and there is a lack of communication between teams. They wasted my time and had me come into the office for an appointment for a cosmetic procedure, which was not even able to happen that day due to miscommunication on their part. I was still charged for this procedure weeks later and had to call back twice to get them to correct the error. Staff are not knowledgeable of basic dental concepts, for example I had to repeatedly tell my hygienist to please stop putting bleach on my veneers, as they are sealed and don't whiten. Additionally on 3 separate occasions, appointments that were scheduled months in advance would then be cancelled, with their excuse being they weren't going to be in the office that day. Don't waste your time at Stone Haven Dental.

Everyone is very friendly and relaxed. Dr. Jennifer Crespo did a fabulous job on my new crown. No pain after removing my huge old metal filling and 2 weeks later my permanent crown. Beautiful. She is very easygoing and also very good to her assistants. State of the art instruments. Overall a practice I can recommend.

Terrible experience. I have been there before and the experience was ok. This time though, was a different story. I was getting a crown on one of my back teeth. The assistant kept jamming the suction hose onto my lip and my teeth would cut into my lip. They then stopped suctioning the water and so it was just running down my throat. I started choking because of this. They told me this was because my mouth was so small. Then they both were pulling each side of my lip away from the other so that my lip started to split. That's when I had had enough. I told them that I am a professional musician and I can't have my lip split by them. They said it was because my mouth was so small and that's the way it had to be. I told them that it was a horrible experience. The worse part is that I have to go back there to get the permanent crown placed in 2 weeks. 0 out of 5 stars would not recommend.

This place got progressively worse for me over the 3 years I've been seeing them. A different dentist almost every time I go in. Each root canal was more painful than the last (yes, I have terrible teeth). The second root canal, I was on new insurance and no one explained the new pricing. The third, my gums were swollen and bleeding for a week. Still swollen another week later when I got my permanent crowns (both for the second and third root canals). The hygienist at my last root canal was terrible. My face hurt so much by the time I left that day, even though I still couldn't feel so much of it. The dentist that was filling in when I got my crowns was GREAT, so maybe you'll get lucky.

Miranda and Dr. Crespo were both wonderful. Both were kind, skilled, and incredibly professional. Miranda gave in-depth answers to my concerns, and was extraordinarily personable. Dr. Crespo was very thorough and I felt like she was genuinely interested in making her patients feel comfortable. I would highly recommend both of them.

I've been a patient at Stonehaven Draper for many years, and always feel well taken care of. I've had a few different dentists and two hygienists in my time with Stonehaven, and have absolutely adored each of them. They are knowledgeable and do a fantastic job, but are also so personable and caring. I'm always confident that my teeth and dental health are well taken care of. I've recommended them to many friends and family members, and will continue to do so, without hesitation!

I would give NO stars if that was an option. I recently made an appointment here since I moved and they are in-network for my insurance. It was my 6mo cleaning and after I was examined by two female staff members in telling them I was having some sensitivity to cold and hot , the conclusion was I needed a "deep cleaning" which was $200 something out of pocket from what my plan covered. No biggie, If I thought that was the case. I haven't been fortunate enough to not have many issues with my teeth when i visit a dentist so it just didn't sound right to me. I asked can i just get the regular cleaning and decide later, which i was then told they can't legally do that since I needed more work done. I was aghast at that response. Long story short I got an appointment with my old dentist and there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with my teeth, NO deep cleaning needed. What kind of establishment is this???? I'm furious! You all should be held responsible for telling people lies to make a quick buck. Anyone reading this DO NOT GO TO STONEHAVEN

I had a great first visit, everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Procedures were explained, options given, and prices seem to be reasonable. I saw Dr Olivia Sorrell, who was very friendly and made me feel at ease. I would very much recommend this dental office.

We LOVED the staff and the Dental hygiene at were so good!! I had Morgan and she talked me through everything and made sure I knew what was going on at all times she was darling! My husband had the same experience with Miranda The office colors and decor is calming and made you feel relaxed! Then Dr Jennifer Crespo came in and was so amazing we chatted first then went over what needed to happen We were totally comfortable ( and I'm the biggest whimp when it comes to dentists) Stonehaven dental is the place to be

I am blown away by the service. Not only is my favorite dentist super kind and caring, but IAN. Ian is the office manager. After some new crowns, a friend told me I should have had a different material. I brought this up and Ian told me all of the differences between material A and B for the crowns and explained in detail why they chose the material they went with. I was also told that if I really wanted to go with the other material, they would stand by their work and take care of it. I was thrilled to know the reasoning behind their choice of material and that I was given a choice. I stuck with their original decision. There was also a pretty normal staff change and some billing issues slipped through the cracks as they do. Once again, Ian came to my rescue. He went above and beyond to get the billing straightened out, and I am 110% thrilled by the service. Great dental care, great customer service, excellent place! Glad to have it in Draper!
