Dr. Mitnick received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1983 from the Medical College of Virginia campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. He is in the practice of general dentistry. Dr. Mitnick received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland in 1976 majoring in Zoology. For many years, Dr. Mitnick has volunteered his time working monthly in the Northern Virginia Dental Societys reduced fee dental clinics in Baileys Crossroads and Sterling. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, road biking and hiking with his dogs. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association and the Northern Virginia Dental Society.

Dr. Heidi Herbst received her Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1981 from the Medical College of Virginia campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. She continued at MCV and in 1983 completed her post-doctoral certification in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Herbst served as adjunct faculty for several years in the pediatric clinic of VCU School of Dentistry. While there, she supervised pediatric dental residents and students as they learned to treat their own patients. Dr. Herbst was mentioned in the August 2009 and 2010 issues of Washingtonian Magazine as a preferred dentist based on the recommendations of her peers. Dr. Mitnick and Dr. Herbst have been married to each other since 1979, and have two adult children who they raised in Sterling. Dr Herbst is a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, the Northern Virginia Dental Society, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Tatiana Staver comes from a family of dentists from Moldova; her mother is still practicing pediatric dentistry in her home country. After completing her Doctorate of Dental Surgery studies in Romania in 2006, she followed a residency in orthodontics in Romania and then completed her pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in June 2014. She joined our practice few months after that. 'Dr. T,' as we call her, successfully completed a very rigorous certification process and is now a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is also a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, the Northern Virginia Dental Society, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry. In her free time, she enjoys the outdoors and playing mandolin with a local orchestra.

Dr. Rachel Hubbard graduated from VCU School of Dentistry in 2011 as president of her class. She completed a residency at the Veteran's Hospital in Hampton, Virginia, where she honed her skills. She comes to us after several years in private practice in Williamsburg, Virginia. She is a proud Hokie, having graduated Virginia Tech in 2006. She grew up in the area and graduated from Langley High School. Dr. Hubbard is thankful for the opportunity to with with and learn from her parents, Drs. Mitnick and Herbst. In her free time, she and her husband stay busy with their two small children and two rambunctious dogs. Dr. Hubbard is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Virginia Dental Association and the Northern Virginia Dental Society. She is also a member of the Greater Loudoun Study Club, which is affiliated with the Seattle Study Club.

Permanent teeth will begin to grow around age 6, and except for wisdom teeth, are all present between ages 12 and 14. The next teeth to grow in are the 12-year molars and finally the wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth typically begin breaking through from age 17 and on. The total number of permanent teeth is 32, though few people have room for all 32 teeth. This is why wisdom teeth are usually removed.

Your front teeth are called incisors. The sharp fang-like teeth are canines. The next side teeth are referred to as pre-molars or bicuspids, and the back teeth are molars. Your permanent teeth are the ones you keep for life, so it is vital that they are brushed and flossed regularly and that periodic check-ups by a dentist are followed.

My family has enjoyed going to Sterling Virginia Smiles for over 15 years. They do excellent work and have an excellent rapport, communication and customer service! The children's side is phenomenal for all kids! My most recent visit with Dr. Hubbard on the adult side and her hygienist, Sabrina, was personally my most comfortable, pleasant experience of them all! This all sounds, so cheesy, but it's true!

My family has been going to Drs. Mitnick and Herbst for 20 years. Their daughter, Dr. Rachel Hubbard, joined the practice a few years ago. She handled the restoration of my smile with cosmetic bonding. She did an excellent job. She really cared about what I thought, and was happy and patient to work with me to get my smile the way I wanted it. I would recommend any of these dentists.

I've moved around frequently, so I've been to many dentists and none can compare to Sterling Virginia Smiles. I love that my whole family can go to the same office and get excellent care from both adult and pediatric dentists. They're fantastic!

My five-year-old son and I are both patients here and I am consistently impressed by the service we receive. The doctors are technically excellent and HONEST. It can be hard to find people you trust, but the doctors on staff have the patients' best interests at heart and will not sell you on services you don't need. The office is clean, the staff are friendly, and there is a great space for kids in the waiting room (my son LOVES coming here!).
