Dr. Doan, named a Top Dentist in San Diego Magazine, is one of only a few hundred dentists in the country to achieve accreditation with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. His insistence on excellence stems from the concern that he has for his patients.

In the process of achieving that accreditation, Dr. Doan completed courses that combine the artistry and science of dentistry, and successfully performeda rigorous examination process thatconfirms his advanced skills.

To Dr. Doan, it isnt just about skills. He has created an office that delivers its care with warmth and personal attention. He understands that many patients get very anxious about receiving dental care. Certified in advanced oral sedation techniques, Dr. Doan has both the training and the necessary licensing to offer sedation to improve the dental experiences for those patients. Weare happy to discuss the use of either nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation to make you as comfortable as possible.

Dr. Doanis passionate about creating brilliant, beautiful teeth that heighten your overall sense of confidence, and he is not satisfied until he has achieved the aesthetic that you want to live in for the rest of your life.Only when you are completely in love with your new smile will final restorations be bonded to your teeth that is our guarantee to you!

He is an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) and a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the California Dental Association (CDA), the Southwest Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) Education, and SpearStudy Club. He has also completed postgraduate programs by Spear, Dawson, and received TMJ training from Dr.Mark Piper.

Born and raised in Los Angeles County, California, Dr. Doan enjoys the sunny weather of San Diego and its coastal pleasures. An avid surfer, photographer, and gardener, Dr. Doan also enjoys a good book and time with his wife, their three sons and daughter-in-law, and the many friends they have throughout the city.

I enjoy the satisfaction of crafting beautiful and functional restorations. Not only do I enjoy helping patients look better, but also helping them feel and function better. This motivates me to come to work every day. I also enjoy the process of perfecting my skills and continually learning new things. The AACD accreditation process was instrumental in helping me develop my skill set.

I am very excited about digital smile design. I have been doing it for several years now and it has revolutionized the way I design, perform and deliver my cases. It allows for much more interaction with my patients in the design process.

One of the ways we help our patients realize their cosmetic goals is with porcelain veneers. The process of making over a smile is approached in a carefulmanner, taking into consideration all of the factors that create a cohesive appearance, including the shape and size of your teeth, facial features, and your personality. If you areseeking enhancement with porcelain veneers, you can benefit from choosing an accredited cosmetic dentist like Dr. Doan.

Accreditation from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry means that a dentist has invested additional time into education, and completed a comprehensive, three-part accreditationprocess. Multiple aspects of cosmetic dentistry are tested through written and oral examinations, as well as the presentation of case studies.

Veneerscan brighten discolored enamel, disguise chips or cracks, close gaps, perfect your smile line, and much more. While the sheaths that cover teeth may be made from composite material, we choose porcelain due to its close similarity to natural enamel. This brings out the best and most authentic appearance in your smile.

A dentist who has gone to great lengths to achieve accreditation in cosmetic dentistry is serious about achieving the best possible result. Our goal is to give you the appearance you will love for the rest of your life.

Upon your approval , provisional veneers will be made. This gives you the opportunity to wear your new smile for several days before committing to a permanent change. Dr. Doan insists on exceptional work. Even provisional veneers are carefully evaluated using a precise checklist before they are put in your mouth. If he is not fully satisfied with the finite details of provisionals, modifications will be requested from the dental lab.

If you have put off dental visits due to anxiety or fear, you are no different from millions of other people.Dr. Doan understands that fear can be paralyzing. In our office, we strive to put your mind at ease. In addition to compassionate care and clear communication regarding dental procedures, we are happy to provide proven forms of sedation to eliminate your anxieties about dentistry.

Dr. Doan is DOCS certified. This means that he is fully trained by the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, and holds the necessary licensure to provide conscious sedation. Two levels of sedation are available in our office: nitrous oxide, and oral conscious sedation.

Nitrous oxide is an excellent choice if you tend toexperience mild to moderate anxiety and want a sedative that has no after-effects. A longstanding method of sedation, nitrous oxide may also be referred to as inhalation sedation, because you breathe a precise mixture of this gas and oxygen during your dental treatment. Nitrous oxide eases fears, relaxes the body, and also enhances the effects of novocain. Safe and reliable, this method of sedation wears off within about two minutes, allowing you to go about your day with no grogginess.

While this form of sedation is often called sleep dentistry, strictly speaking, you arent actually asleep, though it may seem that way. You will be breathing and swallowing on your own. Your protective reflexes, such as coughing to clear your airway, will be fully operational. You will be able to respond to requests, but you probably wont remember what happened.

Oral conscious sedation involves a prescription medication that you take prior to your visit. Because it remains active for several hours, you will not be able to drive and willneed assistance getting to and from our office.

One of the primary benefits of sedation dentistry is that the use of an appropriate sedative allows you to obtain the routine dental care you need for optimal oral health. After being treated with sedation, patients who hadpreviously avoided seeing the dentist often lose the fear that once held them back from their healthiest smile. Additionally, sedation is valuable in longer dental procedures. What may take an hour or more feels like mere minutes due to the effects of sedative medication. Many of our patients appreciate this feeling, as well as the minimal recollection they have of their treatment.

There is much more to your smile than a healthy set of teeth. At the back of the jaw are two very important structures that make it possible for you to achieve sliding and up and down movement. They are the temporomandibular joints, or TMJs. This term is often used to describe a dysfunctional condition. However, dysfunction is more appropriately referred to TMJ disorder.

Because the TMJs are constantly at work, helping you chew, speak, laugh, smile, and more, TMJ disorder can have a significant impact on your comfort and functional ability. Individuals with this condition may experience a number of unpleasant symptoms, including:

TMJ can be a complex matter, which is why it is important to consult with a properly trained dentist if you exhibit signs of dysfunction. Advancedcourses in the diagnosis and treatment of this condition give a dentist the skills necessary to identify the origin of dysfunction and to perform treatment to improve comfort.

Dr. Doan completed coursework atThe Dawson Academy, an educational institution recognized for its concentration on occlusion andthe temporomandibular joints. Training at this facility enables dentists to hone their skills through lectures, clinical training, and personal mentoring from other experienced dentists. Dr. Doanalso completed coursework at the Piper Education and Research Center where he receivedmentorship from Dr. Mark Piper, one of the worlds leading TMJ dentists. Dr. Doans training, professional attitude, and warm manner make him a wonderful resource for patients struggling with the complex issue of TMJ disorder.

To alleviate the symptoms of TMJ, a thorough examination is performed. Imaging, x-rays, and other diagnostic testing provide us with the information we need to accurately determine where undue stress has originated. This may be bruxism (clenching and grinding), bite issues, faulty dental work, or injury to the jaw joints.

Treatment for TMJ is established based on the severity and cause of symptoms. Some patients improve significantly with an oral splint that encourages a healthier bite and buffers excess force from grinding and clenching. Occasionally, patients require a complete bite adjustment. With his background in cosmetic dentistry as well as TMJ and occlusion training, Dr. Doan can also recognize ifrestorative treatmentmay be performed to create a proper bite.
