Since he first began practicing in 1995, Dr. Stephen McCuin has been passionate about helping his patients achieve ideal oral health through treatments that are tailored to their individual needs. He is committed to providing the highest quality, long-lasting dental care in a gentle way that makes patients feel comfortable that theyre in good hands.
Dr. McCuin loves meeting the new faces who walk through our doors, as well as catching up with patients who have been visiting us since they were children. He truly appreciates the gratitude expressed by so many patients whose lives he helped change.
A native of St. Louis, MO, Dr. McCuin began his formal education at Virginia Tech, where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Science degree. He would later attend Virginia Commonwealth University, where he obtained his Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
As a Dawson-trained dentist, Dr. McCuin chooses to exceed state requirements to provide our patients with the latest techniques and technology. He does so by keeping current on all the latest developments in the field of dentistry to better serve our patients. In the past, Dr. McCuin has attended endodontic continuing education courses and has been to several classes on Invisalign and the new Inman Aligner system.
Dr. McCuin has lived in Virginia since 1976 and resides in Roanoke with his wife of 23years, Elizabeth. In his free time, Dr. McCuin enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, boating, and fine dining. He is also active in church and rarely misses Sunday Service.When he finds the time, Dr. McCuin enjoys packing his suitcase and exploring new places in the world, going with hiswife to new york for the national wine experience and trying new restaurants. In addition, Dr. McCuin, Elizabeth, and Ruth do core training with a personal trainer.

He's the dentist for people who are afraid of going to the dentist. I had significant anxiety about dentists when I started seeing him. He's been extremely kind and helpful. We worked out strategies to help me feel more relaxed. He is careful to keep pain and discomfort entirely managed during any procedure. I also have some unusual health-related idiosyncrasies and he and his staff are especially accommodating.

Dr mccuin is a good dentist. I have been to him myself. Both of my kid's have been going to him for year's. But this last time my daughter went to him. His front office assistant decided that they need to do a consultation. Like other people have mentioned. Also charged $ 99 !!!??? Of course that was the last time I will be sending my daughter there. I have to agree with others. There is a serious lack of front office management and charges??!!! After reading Shawn's review. I now wonder if my daughter really needs brace's. Which I will be getting a second opinion on.

This office reeks of crookedness and I'm not talking teeth. They overcharged us numerous times and placed credits to our accounts without notifying us... just continuing to accumulate. All the while, they are consistently offering procedures without euthanasia presumably to bank on savings for the cost of the product all while charging the the same for the procedures. I recently noticed I was charged 156 for a service even though they told me I was charged 150. The office manager claimed that it was a credit card fee they added because they got a new credit card machine and that it was a COVID small business related hike of 3.7%. I asked her if it applies to both debit and credit cards, and she said "I think so... if you use a debit card as a credit card". This with no warning, or sign of a new charge and it was to my debit card, not a credit card! I asked for a receipt for the transaction and they sent it to my email after having to call twice to remind them what my email was. The only charge on there was $150 and not the 156 they actually charged! I told her I needed a receipt that reflected what was actually charged to the card and she said she would get back to me on that - claiming that she would have to look into whether she could void the old transaction or not. Like lady, I don't care if you know what you're doing or not, you can't just u justifiably charge people and then not issue a receipt with the charge that was made. On top of that, she was very rude and unfriendly. Horrible customer service on her part. To top it off, all the other transactions made with both credit and debit cards other than the one aforementioned did not have the mysterious 3.7% "COVID credit card fee". So tell me what that is all about... unbelievably shady and incompetent business model they have here. Do yourself a favor and find a dentist you can trust. These guys are borderline criminal.

I would not recommend this dentist! They overcharge you and try to take every penny they can get from you. After each visit, make sure to check with your insurance company to see how much "patient responsibility" exactly was, and compare how much you actually paid to the dentist. They will keep your credit without telling you and will NOT refund you unless you inform them right away. I did my root canal treatment and I paid $715.50 (cash) right after the treatment and they charged me $28 for MINI mouthwash (I mean it's a travel size) without asking me. I checked with my insurance company and found out my responsible amount was $595.40 and the MINI month wash was not covered by my insurance. I also had cavity treatments and they overcharged me again. I requested for refund but they kept telling me that they haven't received payments from the insurance company yet. When I finally received the refund check in the amount of $23! I talked to the office manager but obviously she was so sketchy and trying to hide something. She was not friendly at all. They just want your money by saying whatever the excuse they can come up with. If you have already visited them, MAKE SURE TO CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. They are keeping your money!

Like many, previous experiences with other dentists have contributed to anxiety around dental procedures. I recently had my very first crown and McCuin and staff worked diligently throughout the procedure to ensure that I was comfortable every step of the way. I would not recommend this place, I was scheduled for an appt and called several weeks ago to double check that I had an appt coming up. The lady I spoke to said yes it was on Feb 1st. I called the day of to make sure I was still on and the recording said the office was closed until the 3rd. I never got a call about this and I took off from work. Very disappointed.

First let me tell you I have been scared of dentists all my life. Scared to the point of major panic attacks. I can say I am no longer afraid. Dr McCuin and his staff are just amazing. First they treated like a family member and put my mind at ease. My Mom always wanted to see me smile, but she passed away on 10/21/20 of covid. Dr McCuin and staff gave me a smile that Mom would be proud of. Dr McCuin pulled 13 teeth on the same day and he took his time because of my fears.I saw my smile for the first time and broke out into tears. I am recommending Dr McCuin and his staff for all your dentist needs.I have included 2 pictures one before and one after.
