Dr. Melanie Steckelberg has been setting the highest standards of excellence in dentistry for over a decade! She is a Nebraska native who received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Nebraska Wesleyan University, then earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. Shortly after graduation, she opened her own dental practice in Lincoln, Nebraska. Dr. Derryl Ogden then gave her the opportunity to take over his practice when he retired.
While in the first years of her private practice, Dr. Steckelberg was a faculty member at the College of Dentistry in Lincoln for nearly five years. She enjoyed working with dental students as a part-time clinical instructor in the undergraduate periodontics clinic. This position was given up once Dr. Steckelberg became a mother. However, she does hope to someday return to teaching at the college part-time. Continuing education is important to Dr. Steckelberg, and she works hard to stay on top of emerging dental research.
Dr. Steckelberg enjoys giving back to her community. She works as a dentist at the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, has provided dental screenings for Lincoln Public Schools since 2008, and represents Nebraska Dentists as a Treasurer of the Nebraska Dental Association (NDA). Her previous leadership position was as an NDA Trustee, representing Lincolns ADA Dentists from 2012-2017. Dr. Melanie Steckelberg enjoys a number of professional affiliations including:
When not working at Steckelberg Dental, Dr. Steckelberg enjoys running, yoga, photography, sewing and knitting, and spending time with her husband, daughter, family and friends. She recently has been coaching her daughters YMCA volleyball team, along with the help of her husband and the other amazing parents!
Our staff, led by Dr. Melanie Steckelberg, is highly skilled, uniquely trained and strives to provide energetic and fun-loving service to each patient. Our staff members have specialized training, multiple certifications and years of experience treating patients with the highest level of care. We stay abreast of the latest techniques and technologies by regularly attending continuing education courses and seminars.
Jalyn is our outstanding Dental Hygienist. Jalyn joined the team in July 2021 and she quickly became indispensable. Jalyn grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and trained at Central Community College in Hastings.
As a dental hygienist, Jalyn assesses oral health conditions, reviews your medical history, takes dental x-rays, and can help provide appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health. Jalyn provides dental cleanings, which includes the removal of calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of teeth. She monitors periodontal health and provides periodontal maintenance services. A dental hygienist is a valuable team member and we are privileged work with Jalyn. Jalyn works Monday through Wednesday at Steckelberg Dental.
Kristi graduated from Central Community College in Hastings with a degree in dental assisting. She passed her DANB Board, which is when she attained her title of Certified Dental Assistant. Kristi works Monday through Thursday at Steckelberg Dental.
Jan graduated from Southeast Community College in Lincoln with a degree in dental assisting. Jan worked at the Health Department for many years and retired from dental assisting there. She answered the call to help us out when we were short-handed and she continues to help us out today. We are so thankful for all that you do for us, Jan.

Great dentist and experience overall! I hadn't been to a dentist in a few years because of finishing up college and then the pandemic. She worked on my teeth and explained everything out in an understandable and non-judgemental way. Definitely going back!

Melanie and her staff surpassed my expectations of the definition of dental care. Not only did I get seen on short notice, Melanie also set up an outside consult with an Oral surgeon the same day. Melanie not only explained the issues with my teeth in terms I could understand, she also began outlining a comprehensive plan for my future dental needs. As a person who suffers anxiety to the extreme when it comes to dentistry, I'm happy to say I've found my permanent dentist in Melanie and look forward to future treatment.

Called with a toothache, got me an appointment right away, discovered what the issue was, shared with me my options, got me in with a oral surgeon that day. I cannot say enough good things about her, her office, and the level of care. Highly recommend.

Dr. Steckelberg is positively exudes knowledge and confidence about Dentistry. She is not only exceptionally good at explaining what's going on inside the mouth, she's really good with kids. The workers in her office seem to be happy to work for her, she has a great bunch of toys for kids to play with in her waiting room (which is closed for COVID-19 concerns.) I highly recommend Dr. Steckelberg. My kids like to go to the dentist.

Dr Steckelberg is a fantastic dentist who is gentle while performing procedures. She explains what she is doing and why it is necessary for my dental health. The staff is the best, and Debbie, the dental hygienist, provides the most through cleaning ever.

Dr Steckelberg is extremely gentle and thorough in her patient treatment. She is very good at explaining the different options that are available for my dental needs. I never feel like I'm being pushed into something I'm not comfortable with. I can tell that she really cares about my dental health and general well being. The entire staff at Steckelberg Dental is very friendly and inviting, and they do a really good job of making me feel as comfortable as possible.
