As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Dr. David C. Hoffman, D.D.S., F.A.C.S., Lydia J. Lam, D.D.S., and Steve Yusupov, D.D.S., M.D., F.A.C.S. manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions. Dr. Hoffman, Dr. Lam, Dr. Yusupov, and Dr. Abdou practice a wide range of oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures, including dental implants, bone grafting, wisdom teeth extractions, oral pathology, orthognathic surgery, facial trauma surgery, cosmetic filler injections, cleft lip and palate surgery, and treatment of facial pediatric congenital deformities.

The surgical staff at Staten Island Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is comprised of certified oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants that aid in the administration of I.V. sedation, assist during surgery, and monitor patients during and after procedures. Our surgical staff also includes a registered nurse to assist in surgical procedures and available board certified anesthesiologists to administer general anesthesia within our state-of-the-art facility. All staff members are well-versed in healthcare and insurance policies and are CPR certified.
Dr. Hoffman has been in practice since 1981 after completing his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Parkland Memorial Hospital and Southwest Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and also completed a two-year NIH fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He completed his dental school education at NYU School of Dentistry.
Following his residency he joined the staff of Staten Island University Hospital, where his is director of the division of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery. He has been on the faculty of numerous hospitals and educational institutions including Columbia University, Downstate Medical Center, and University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Rutgers Health Science Center).
Dr. Hoffman is a Fellow in the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Additionally, he was granted a fellowship in the American College of Surgeons, a distinction to a small percentage of oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
Dr. Hoffman is a member of the American Cleft Lip and Palate Association, the American Society of TMJ Surgeons, American Dental Association, and the Academy of Osseointegration. He has presented at both national and international meetings on a variety of topics including orthognathic surgery, TM joint surgery, dental implant surgery, and cleft lip and palate surgery. Additionally, he has multiple publications as well as several chapters in major textbooks on oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Hoffman has an active interest in treating children with cleft lip and palate deformities. He has been the medical director for healing the Children and has been involved in over 75 trips to third-world countries with Healing the Children and other international health organizations. He as well has an active interest in temporomandibular joint surgery and patented a temporomandibular joint prosthesis with Dr. Michael Pappas known as the Hoffman-Pappas joint, which has been used worldwide.
Dr. Hoffman has been in involved with dental implants since their inception and currently focuses his practice on implant dentistry. He has pioneered the use of virtual planning for implant dentistry as well as introduced with Dr. Lam, to Staten Island, Teeth in a Day using the All-on-4 system for dental implants. This technique has helped numerous patients benefit by having their teeth extracted, implants placed and new teeth placed all in one day.

Dr. Hoffman and his colleagues, including Dr. Lam have appeared in both local and national news for their charitable work, bringing children back to this country for facial reconstructive surgery. He was featured on the Discovery Channel series entitled Super surgeons for the work he did with two children he brought back to Staten Island for treatment of TMJ ankylosis or frozen jaw joint. Most recently, he and Dr. Lam were featured on the national news for their treatment of a 14-year-old young girl from Gambia who had a large life threatening facial tumor, and for a 16-year-old boy who could not open his mouth.
Dr. Hoffman is accompanied in his practice by two of his previous residents, Dr. Lam and Dr. Yusupov. Together, they have put together one of the most technically advanced practices for the treatment of patients who require implant dentistry. They have contributed to Staten Island one of the more sophisticated implant dental programs incorporating the latest in digital imaging, dental scanning and 3D printing as well as virtual surgery planning for optimal patient care. Drs. Hoffman, Lam and Yusupov are proud of the fact that they have developed one of the major and most advanced oral and maxillofacial surgery practices in the New York Metropolitan area located on the campus of Staten Island University Hospital.
Dr. Hoffman was featured on the Discovery channel for the treatment of TMJ and facial jaw deformities. He is married and has four children. His hobbies include tennis, jogging, skiing, and traveling. Dr. Hoffman is also a sculptor, and many of his pieces may be seen in his office.

I was impressed with an extraction of a molar tooth, bone graft and implant procedure. I will recommend Dr. Hoffman to everyone. He is professional and a phenomenal oral surgeon. The staff was so sweet and kind as well. Please do not fear getting an implant if you have any anxiety. Dr. Hoffman is the best. You have an option of being sedated which will ease your experience . I had a permanent denture done about a month ago by Dr Lam. She is a phenomenal doctor who puts you instantly at ease. I could not believe with 9 extractions and placement of the permanent denture that I would experience almost no pain. I kept putting this off but finally got the courage to go for it- I don't know how I chewed before! I can't say enough about the whole experience from my nurse Ana, Monica and especially Dr. Lam. I recommend Dr Lam and her team of caring professionals highly and thank them for giving me back a beautiful smile!

I came in for emergency wisdom teeth removal and i was completely petrified. I have fear coming to the dentist and pride myself on doing everything I can to not come here. But I could not escape my gruesome wisdom teeth that was coming through my gums. I was assisted by Crystal, Ammie, Real, Rachel and Emad Abdou D.D.S. who provided me with exceptional service. They walked me through everything. they were extremely knowledgable on the task and most importantly they were respectful, understanding and kind to me. He also performed the procedure on spot and swiftly. I felt little to no pain and healed up nicely. They all took the extra mile to hold my hand, to assist me, and to talk to me instead of blindly rushing me into something. that's what i appreciate the most. Id tell everyone about them if i had enough mouths to talk at once. 6/5 stars if i could.

We went to see Dr. Abdou for consultation for my young daughter . Dr. Abdou was very friendly; knowledgeable and put many of my fears at ease. The day of the procedure everything went smoothly; Post op care was super easy to follow. One week out and my daughter is healing well. I'm glad I decided on Dr Abdou( I had consulted other oral surgeons)- he called to check in on my daughter's progress-his entire staff have been amazing w/ answering any questions or concerns I may have. The office has a very relaxing atmosphere; front desk was very professional and attentive. Would definitely recommend the practice to anyone. Thank you for all your help!!

Dr Lam was my doctor here she extracted my tooth in 2020 and again recently. She leaves me with minimal pain and makes me feel less afraid. She's very gentle and caring along with the staff. I went elsewhere for my wisdom teeth years ago and my experience just doesn't even compare to this place. I couldn't believe the little amount of pain I was in after my procedures. And a big thank you to the amazing staff for making me feel comfortable and being so caring. Definitely recommend them to anyone who needs oral surgery.

I called this office today to verify if they accept by insurance. I called four times and someone answered each time and then hung up all four times, finally I called back again and spoke briefly to Marianna (not sure how she spells her name). She was very unprofessional and RUDE! She would not let me speak stated they do not accept my insurance a HUNG up on me while I was speaking! There wasn't a phone issue, just a staff issue. I can only imagine how the receptionist speaks to patients and I didn't even get to make an appointment to go to the office. I am happy I know how unprofessional the staff is now! I would NEVER go to this office and wouldn't recommend anyone else to go there because how RUDE and unprofessional the staff is over the phone. Digesting. I would given zero starts if I could.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out here last on January 27th. Dr. Emad Abdou is the best. The surgery was quick and easy. After the fact I was pain free and everything healed perfectly. The ladies behind the desk were super nice and friendly. They worked with me to schedule my appointments and my surgery around my school schedule. I asked for certain days and times and they were able to do it for me. Overall such a positive and pain free experience. I could not have asked for it to be better.

The level of knowledge and expertise that this office provides is something they should feel proud of.
