Dr. Farnums dedication to Biological Dentistry comes from experiencing firsthand the benefits this practice offers to his patients. It makes sense to only use materials that are biologically compatible and biochemically non-reactive. Dr. Farnum considers all dental materials placed in the teeth to be the equivalent of time release drugs, and is concerned about the effects this can have on whole-body health. Over time, these materials degrade and are released into the system where problems can develop. Dr. Farnum strives to use bio-compatible materials that minimize these problems. His understanding and consideration toward chemical sensitivities, allergies, and concerns about toxins make him a unique doctor in the dental field.

Stanley J Farnum DDS - General dentist in Tucson, AZ

Biological Dentistry means using effective, proven techniques and the fewest, most bio-compatible (biologically safer) materials possible. Dr. Farnum has found that using bio-compatible, biologically safe*, long-lasting materials for restoration and reconstruction offers patients the best opportunity for lifelong dental health. Thanks to this approach and Dr. Farnum's high level of skill, his patients have few recurring decay problems and enjoy the benefits of high-quality dental work. As a Biological Dentist, Dr Farnum:

  • Utilizes high quality materials that are biologically safe ( Note: We use the safest ADA approved materials we can find, however, some highly sensitive individuals may have low tolerance levels even to these. );
  • Our patients set high standards for the health and well-being of themselves and their families. They are educated about the potential health risks associated with some commonly used dental materials. Patients seek out Dr. Farnums expertise not only in contemporary dentistry, but his mastery in mercury-free, and biological dentistry, practices they know take their whole-body health into account.

    Dr. Farnum understands that dental materials can have an impact on the overall health of the patient. He is passionate about providing his patients with healthier alternatives to some commonly used dental materials. Through years of practice, he has witnessed the significant benefits that gold and porcelain restorations offer. He is one of the few dentists that offers expert gold and porcelain restoration.

    Some people may be looking for a naturopathic dentist, holistic dentist, or alternative dentist. There is a professional association of dentists that are concerned about whole body health and they prefer the term Biological Dentist. As a Biological Dentist, Dr. Farnums philosophy and approach typically meet the concerns of patients searching for these alternatives. Dr. Farnums knows that oral health and whole-body health are inextricably related; a healthy mouth supports a healthy body.

    We are so happy to have found Dr. Stanley and staff. We get asked about a good Biological Dentist often and we finally found someone who is knowledgeable, caring and affordable to send people to. He's knowledgeable, non toxic (safe for the chemically sensitive) and uses the most amazing ultrasonic cleaning process. Highly recommend

    My husband and I have both had wonderful experiences with Dr. Farnhum and staff. I have only ever had terrible and painful experiences with dentists in the past and so have really had a poor taste in my mouth around dentistry. My husband had a difficult to remove amalgam that other dentists could not get because it caused excruciating pain when they tried. Dr. Farnhum had it out within 15 minutes completely painless. I have not frequented the dentist much at all over the past decade due to poor work, toxic chemicals most use, absurd recommendations and poor experiences overall. This was the best cleaning I've ever had done, and toxin free as well which is of great importance to me. He was also the 1st dentist that was honest and truthful about my teeth/bite, and wasn't trying to find something wrong in order to sell me something I don't really need. He is knowledgeable about Health and and the dangers of most of the commonly accepted dental practices and their toxic elements (fluoride, amalgams, composites, etc). Dr. Farnhum chooses to work with our body's innate biological intelligence rather than against it. Highly recommend and will be sending our patients his way :)

    Have been a patient at Dr. Stan's for many years. He was very instrumental in helping my health by replacing my old fillings with gold fillings. So glad to have found Dr. Stan; he is very helpful, attentive and caring.

    Dr. Farnum removed all the silver fillings in my husband's molars in January 2020. I believe it amounted to about 8 molars. Of those molars, there were about 3 crowns that that had to be removed in order to remove the silver fillers below the crowns. Dr. Farnum removed all of them in one day and gave my husband all new gold fillings the following week after the gold molds were made. My husband is in his 70's, and it worried me to even consider how traumatized he might be if all eight teeth were worked on the same day. It was agreed upon that Dr. Farnum would stop at any point if it became too overwhelming for my husband. Well, not only was the procedure done painlessly, he ate dinner the same as any normal night, and felt absolutely no discomfort. The next week's procedure was the same; gold moldings were all inserted without incident, and we were happy he was a brand new man with no more worries about mercury poisoning from silver fillings. Because Dr. Farnum is a biological dentist, silver removal is done carefully to protect the patient and the dental team from mercury poisoning. That was, in itself, a great relief to us. After my husband, two weeks later it was my turn. I was actually jealous that my husband's procedure was done. I am no cry-baby, but I have not enjoyed going to the dentist. I went in with Dr. Farnum's understanding that I, too, would have him stop at any point if the silver removal of five molars was too traumatizing. After having him talk to me before the procedure, I was very comforted. This was the most painless experience I have ever had in a dental office. Dr. Farnum was so gentle, I could not even feel the needle of anesthesia being injected into my flesh ..... and I had four injections. I thought for sure the anesthesia would not take because I could not feel the injection with the meds going in. But, I was numb as ever. You guessed it, I had all five molars worked on, and I felt such a sense of relief that the poisonous mercury was gone and that the procedure was completed without any pain whatsoever. I was so happy, and so grateful to Dr. Farnum for his expertise. Not only is he a skillful dentist, he took so much time to inform us of the procedure, gave us so much information about the harmful effects of mercury/silver fillings and composites that are taking the place of silver fillings. Composites are better than silver, but it still leeches into your body causing you to have to deal with yet another toxin. Gold on the other hand is harmless since it is inert. Gold also adheres to our enamel much better and does not shrink or expand. Dr. Farnum has had patients in their 80's with the same gold fillings they had since elementary school. Silver expands 7% causing cracked teeth, leading to bacterial infections, which in turn leads to root canals and/or crowns. I always thought gold fillings would be too expensive, but now I see that it is cheaper in the long run because you can better avoid going through expensive procedures like crowns (which I have had five done recently before I knew of Dr. Farnum) or root canals. Dr. Farnum tries his best to avoid crowning a tooth. Of all the teeth he had to work on with me, he managed to avoid crowning any of my molars, for which I am MOST grateful! Dr. Farnum is not only our dentist, but he has become a trusted friend for us, and we have only known him for three months. He is kind, caring, gentle, and knowledgeable. He truly gives of himself to his patients and to his profession. His assistant, Cecelia, and his wife, Mary Kay, truly add in making this dental practice a warm, friendly, and welcoming place to go for dental work. You know how difficult it is to step into a dental office. Well, you won't ever have those feelings anymore if you visited Dr. Farnum. We wished we found out about him decades ago.

    Great dentist, thankful I found him. Dr. Farnum was highly recommended for his exceptional skill and expertise, and I was very impressed on my first visit. He took all the time needed to check everything thoroughly and also explained all my options and the reasons behind them. It was refreshing to have someone who acted like a partner & advocate of my dental health and not some overseer that was directing my treatment plan however they felt was best for me. If you are tired of being rushed in and out of the assembly-line type dentist chairs and their substandard treatment, go see Dr. Farnum. I am glad I did.

    Sadly to say, I really liked Dr. Farnum, at first. He seemed very sweet and kind, but I'm very dissatisfied with the work he did, and with his deception. I thought he had done a great job too and was very satisfied with his work; especially because he gloated about the quality of it. Only to find out at a later date, it was not what I thought. About a year later, I had to go in for a cleaning and chose a different dentist because he was closer to home. After my cleaning, the new dentist told me that the work I had done was very poor quality and I needed to have it redone. He showed me on the x-rays were the faulty work was and explained why. I was so upset because I could see it on the x-ray, but would have never known had I not been to a different dentist that took x-rays. I had already spent well over $2,500 on my teeth and had to go through even more pain to have them removed and redone, but the worst part was feeling belittled by this dentist.

    I love Dr. Farnum! He's restored my bite, my missing teeth, gave me perfect bridges made with materials my body tolerates due to my health issues, and made a plate that is not even noticeable. After loosing so many teeth due poor health and bad previous dentists, I can sit in his chair without fear, trepidation or anxiety. He takes extreme care with me & my health, takes time which my teeth situations require, is thorough in his explanations, and truly works so hard for my tough case. Cecilia and MaryKay are the best. I recently lost half a tooth and he's doing everything possible to restore it in a way possible that my body will do best with. I am chemically affected so every single item used on me has to be the best. Dr. Farnum provides the best for me, and my body. He is the Best dentist I've ever been to. Teeth are a technical, chemical, engineering, sculptural art and Dr. Farnum does all this and more to the highest quality.

    My kids have been seeing Dr. Farnum and his wonderful hygienist for the past seven years. My oldest child at the age of two developed two minor cavities and the pediatirc dentist we first visited with wanted to sedate him and correct the problem with flouride, and amalgam fillings. Devastated at the news I took to the Internet in hopes of a finding a dentist that was able to think outside the box and not perform things per 'status quo'. I was so relieved when I found Dr. Farnum and his office. They have been so great with my kids. They always take their time trying to build their trust and calm their fears. My kids have never arrived nor left crying. Even for the littlest kids Dr. Farnum always encourges them to sit in the dental chair to start building their confidence and lessen any fears so when they are old enough they then can easily hop right in. He always strives to correct any damage without performing any overly invasive procedures. I cannot stress enough how happy we are to have him as our dentist.

    Dr. Farnum has been my dentist for approximately 10 years. He is the best dentist I have ever seen. He really cares for his patients and does high quality work. I am impressed that for once the dentist is the one who does all of the work himself. I definitely recommend him!

    I've always had to take tranquilizers to be able to even get to a dentist until I went to Dr. Farnum. I love everything about the office and the staff and the doctor! My teeth haven't felt this good in 40 years, Wish I had found them sooner!

    Dr. Farnum was my dentist when I was a little kid and we moved away from him because he wasn't on our dental insurance plan. That was a big mistake. I'm so glad I came back to him and have been with him all of these years. All of the dentist's in the past have commented on his work and I love that my teeth are so well taken care of.
