A valued and trusted community resource, St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC) was founded in 1945. SFMC serves the healthcare needs of the communities of Southeast Los Angeles. SFMC is a 384-bed acute care hospital and one of the largest and busiest emergency and Level II trauma centers in Los Angeles County, treating more than 80,000 emergencies and 2,000 trauma injuries a year. We are approved by the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency as a Primary Stroke Care Center and a STEMI-receiving Center. We have won awards from the American Heart Association for our commitment to heart, stroke and diabetes care.

The Family Life Center offers comprehensive maternity and newborn services. Over 5,000 families choose to have their babies here every year. We are Baby-Friendly certified, which means we have special services and support to assist you in breast-feeding your baby. Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one of the few in Southeast Los Angeles, and partners with Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and UCI Health to provide the highest level of care to every newborn in the NICU.

Each year more than 60,000 patients receive emergency medical care in our emergency department. Our emergency department is EDAP-certified (Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics), a Certified Primary Stroke Center, and a designated paramedic base station. Our Level II Trauma Center treats more than 2,000 trauma patients a year.

St. Francis Medical Center is proud to be a STEMI (segment elevation myocardial infarction) heart attack receiving center. STEMI heart attacks are one of the most serious types of heart attacks. We partner with paramedics, physicians, and associates to ensure STEMI patients get diagnosed and treated within 90 minutes of paramedics arrival. Statistics show that STEMI response greatly improves the chance for survival.

Our experienced health care team and state-of-the-art technology work together to support patients during treatment and recovery. From the minimally invasive to complex procedures, our team guides patients and their loved ones every step of the way.

We offer a full range of orthopedic services including: pain management, nonsurgical treatment, minimally invasive surgery, spine care and back pain management, joint replacement, and physical therapy.

We are committed to making our facility a safe place for care. You can rest assured that weve taken all the steps we can to protect you and those you love. St. Francis Medical Center is making sure you dont have to choose between safety and getting the care you need in these unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you look out over Lynwood, there is a symbol that rises above the city. It can be seen as you walk down Imperial Highway. You take notice as you navigate Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. It draws your attention as you drive down the 105 freeway. And it distinguishes us as a place of healing and hope. It is the cross that crests the top of the St. Francis Medical Center Patient Tower.

The Patient Tower was dedicated nearly 21 years ago on April 30, 2000. Since that day, a person need only raise their eyes to see the mirrored green glass shine upward to the buildings spire, which is crowned by the cross. Visible for miles, the cross reflects light by day and is set aglow by a fusion of fiber optics by night.

As time and age will have it, the nighttime luminescence of our cross has dimmed. But our 24-hour mission of providing quality, compassionate healthcare to this community has never diminished. Thanks to our Facilities team, we are in the process of restoring the crosss evening radiance. This is important because community members look to us as a beacon of hope.

Several years ago, a teenaged girl was lured out to Los Angeles from Ohio by an ad promising fame and fortune and a modeling career. Unknowingly, she became the victim of human traffickers and was held against her will at a motel in Lynwood. At a chance moment, when her captors stepped away, she escaped and started walking. She did not know where she was going, but she kept walking. It was the 4 am hour, dark and cold.

Upon arriving, the Public Safety team reached out to Brother Richard Hirbe in Spiritual Care. Onsite early to minister to patients, Br. Richard immediately responded. He made sure she received the care she needed in the Emergency Department. With the help of Social Services and other clinical and support staff, Brother Richard secured food and warm clothes for the young girl. An airline ticket back to Ohio was purchased through a generous donation from one of our physicians, and a joyful phone call was placed to the girls worried aunt and guardian, letting her know that her niece was safe and coming home.

It is personal testimonies such as this one that affirms the significance of the cross to our community. What is exhibited on the outside of our hospital represents who we are on the inside the doctors, nurses, leaders, allied health, and support staff who welcome every person in need of our care into our home.

I don't even know where to start this is the worst hospital ever. Customer service is horrible just everything in general before my fathers death I would hear stories of people having bad experiences here about their loved ones getting killed Here.. I would kinda doubt it but now that I lived it with my fathers loss..stories are real there's a high chance your love ones gets killed Here by evil nurses and doctors. My father told me nurses were all rude and wouldn't pay any attention when he would ask for help they would come all late and b*itchy mood. There's just so much to say but point is please don't come here if you feel bad go somewhere else

Went for my father's emergency condition. The staff was really accommodating and they understand that my father don't speak English. So the staff let my mother and aunty stay with my dad and they did all types of treatment possible to help my father. It was supper busy but we were out with the treatment sooner than other ER. 10 for them.

It's 5:02 am and we been here since last night 11:00pm. All they did was wrapped his finger and took them all night to do that. Then to get the discharge paperwork. Well we still waiting for that

Had the worst experiences here in the ER, both concerning a family member and myself. Family had debilitating abdominal pain and they kept her there for almost a whole day in the waiting room, even though when we first arrived, there were only a few patients waiting to be seen. Went to their ER, myself, twice- once for an infection and another for a panic attack. The first time they allowed my partner to stay with me, but the doctor that saw me seemed very annoyed at the questions I had about my condition and rushed me out. The second time, they said I could only come in by myself (but there were less people there compared to the last time). They checked my vitals and eventually a nurse took me to a room to be seen. Another patient with her mother was taken to a room across from me. 3 HOURS later? No doctor, no nurse to tell me what was going on, not even for the patient across from me and she seemed to still be in pain. I had come down from what I believed to be a panic attack (they didn't tell me why I had chest pain/was shaking uncontrollably) and saw a doctor casually talking with a nurse, just sitting there having a "funny" conversation. 30 more minutes pass and my partner is texting me, worried about me because he doesn't know why he hasn't gotten to see me and the nurses out in the front waiting area don't tell him what's going on. The doctor is still joking and, fed up I walk over and ask the doctor if I could be released. She told me to go back to the room and she'll look me over (okay?..... um....) 15 minutes pass- I guess she had to finish whatever conversation she was having with the nurse, and she comes to my room, checks my symptoms and asks me questions, then says I'm good to go and I'm sent back to a different waiting area. 30 MORE MINUTES and I give up. I walk out and talk to a receptionist to ask if I could just check out and pay, she takes me back consoling me (because at this point I was emotionally/physically exhausted) and she gets a nurse to check my vitals so I could pay and leave. Whoever that receptionist was, she was the ONLY sweet employee there who seemed to care about what was going on. The nurse, however, is ANNOYED, roughly places the wrap around my arm to take my blood pressure. After she takes my temperature and gives me my papers, in a condescending tone she says "I hope you get better." We left and I told my partner that we're never going back here again. That was 3 years ago. Now I just saw a twitter post about a woman whose newborn niece had been found to have a BROKEN ARM, and the nurses are claiming they don't know what happened??? NOPE. Go to MLK Hospital or just some other hospital other than this one. Their staff is incompetent and rude. They need to shut this place down or change way things are run.
