Dr. Bryan Spurrier has been practicing orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics since 2002. After practicing in New Jersey and Northern Virginia, he took over Dr. Walter Shepherds orthodontic practices in 2009. In a detailed evaluation of dental professionals sponsored by the renowned Virginia Living Magazine, Dr. Spurrier has been voted by his peers as one of the Top Dentists in Virginia and Washington D.C. for 2011 and 2012.
Dr. Spurrier grew up in Tidewater, Virginia and played lacrosse and soccer in high school and college. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at the College at William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in 1993 and then pursued his dream of attending dental school. As salutatorian of his class at the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Spurrier earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery and was elected into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He was not only on the Deans List for all four years of dental school but was also awarded the Adolph D. Williams Scholarship Award for each of those years.
After dental school, Dr. Spurrier attended Columbia University School of Orthodontics in New York City where he completed a two-year post-graduate residency in the specialty of orthodontics. While at Columbia University he participated in cutting-edge research with digital models of teeth and participated as an instructor for clinical orthodontic courses. He also took part in a surgical externship at the University of Washington in 1999.
Dr. Spurrier completes continuing education courses regularly to stay informed of the latest techniques and procedure innovations in orthodontics such as clear aligner therapy with Invisalign, self-ligating brackets with Damon System and In-Ovation, lingual braces, TADs, and soft tissue laser procedures.
Dr. Spurrier currently resides in Danville with his wife, Leslie, two children, Elle and Graham, and two dogs, Mr. Peepers and Maizy. He is an avid Washington Redskins fan and enjoys outdoor activities such as skiing, mountain biking, and surfing. Of course, spending time with his family is Dr. Spurrier's favorite pastime.

While there is no exact age for children to begin orthodontic treatment, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends visiting the orthodontist around age seven. Early treatment allows your orthodontist to correct and guide your childs jaw, create more space for crowded teeth, avoid the need for extractions later in life, and correct thumb sucking and minor speech problems. There are a few things to watch for that may mean your child needs to see an orthodontist, such as crowded or misplaced teeth, difficulty chewing or biting, mouth breathing, thumb sucking, or popping jaws.
Braces are no longer as scary as many teens may think. In fact, braces today come in a variety of styles, materials, and colors making life with braces much easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past. There are several treatment options to choose from, including traditional metal, ceramic, and invisible braces. Treatment times can vary depending on how quickly your body responds and how much work is needed to give you the show-stopping smile you expect. Regardless of the type of braces you choose, it is important to avoid sticky, hard, or chewy foods, as these may damage your braces and prolong your treatment time.
Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens! In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists cites that one in five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21! Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health and they want to feel better about their appearance. Todays orthodontic treatment options offer a variety of braces and appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized to meet your needs, such as clear braces, self-ligating braces, lingual braces, and clear aligners. Remember, a straight smile isnt just beautiful; it will help you maintain the health of your teeth for life!

Went in for an evaluation today and Amy and Dr. Spurrier were literally the two sweetest people ever. So kind and worked around my schedule to fit me in last minute. They answered all my little questions and I left looking forward to seeing them again; how many people can say that about their orthodontist!?

I absolutely Love Dr. Spurrier and his staff! They are always so warm and welcoming. Specifically Dr. Spurrier, he's the absolute best. His work is amazing and it speaks for itself. I've been working with him for the past two years and my smile is now phenomenal. Great job !!!!!!!

I wouldn't be so annoyed if I hadn't spent so much money and if I wasn't still waiting on a phone call I'll never receive. Went for my consult last year. Was told surgery would be my best option along with braces. Spent WAY too much money back and forth out of state for surgery consultations. Admittedly once all that was done it took a while to get for the facility I was sent to get my surgery consult with to get them the necessary paperwork but I still had to be the one calling them to ask if we could officially start the process with my braces since they were to occur before the surgery. I was tired of my closed mouth smiling, hiding my mouth when I laughed, just not wanting my teeth to be judged. Once I called they gave me an outrageous number for payment and even though my insurance does cover some adult dental they didn't bother to utilize it. Once I mentioned this to them I was told they would call me back. That was over a month ago. Still no call. I'm offended but while waiting on them to call I got a second opinion and that was the best decision I ever made. Do your research people.

Everyone at Spurrier Orthodontics is sooo nice ! My teeth were HORRIBLY crooked, but now I can't stop smiling thanks to them! We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Spurrier Orthodontics and we would highly recommend them to everyone who wants perfect teeth.

As an adult needing orthodontic treatment, I was able to shop around for the best. I found it in Dr Spurrier and his office staff. They are top notch. Every visit he explains exactly what he is doing and how the positioning is affecting my teeth. He's made me feel comfortable at all times, informing constantly of my treatment plan. I also respect that he is always giving to the community and the local charities that he and his staff supports. His staff is the most friendly group and so helpful. They are fun, caring and experts at what they do. I know I made the best decision in Spurrier Orthodontics.
