Dr. Scott Shumway graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School in 2010 and entered directly into a residency for advanced training in oral and IV sedation dentistry, oral surgery, periodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, and prosthodontics and restorative dentistry. Following the residency he continued serving in the United States Air Force Dental Corps where he received additional training, expanded his skills and learned the latest techniques in dentistry. During this time he received several awards including being named Clinical Dentist of the Year from Air Mobility Command. Dr. Scott is very thankful for his time in the Air Force and the opportunity to care for the troops that serve our country.
Dr. Scott knows that the best approach to dentistry is a conservative and preventive approach with patient care to achieve the best possible outcome. Dr. Scott feels very fortunate to have met Dr. Trantow, the team and you, his patients! He is as committed to serving the patients of his practice as he was when serving in the United States Air Force.
When Dr. Scott isnt caring for patients, he spends as much time as possible with his wife, Lis, and their four children. Theyre excited to raise their family in beautiful Spokane. They enjoy many outdoor activities and actively participate in church and community responsibilities. Dr. Scott enjoys golfing with his oldest children, Brooklyn and Andy, playing Uno with Macie and Gavin and family Caf Rio dates.
I graduated from Dental Assisting School in 2005 from Spokane Community College. I have worked at a couple different offices but nothing compares to working for Dr. Shumway and being a part of his team. I truly enjoy being a part of a team that takes good care of patients and treats them like family.
I love my job, and forming lasting friendships with my patients in the best part-in addition to providing the best care possible. I am blessed to be a part of Dr. Shumways team: caring professionals that treat everyone with respect and kindness.
At Dr. Shumways office I love being a part of the fun, friendly and family type environment. We have a strong commitment to making it possible for our patients to smile! We often are able to do things for our patients that they did not believe were possible and I love it!

I'm so thankful to have found Spokane Family Smiles. I've had some dental trauma in the past making me very anxious for anything dental and this office is such a calm and welcoming environment. Dr. Shumway and his staff have all been wonderful. The ladies out front were able to get me in quickly and made sure I felt comfortable the minute I walked in the door. Both hygienists I've seen have been amazing with their bedside manners and gentle touch with cleaning and numbing me up which I often struggle with. Lastly Dr. Shumway has been so kind and is very honest which I really appreciated since I was initially coming in for a second opinion. He gives you options and makes sure you thoroughly understand what he's recommending by taking pictures and going over everything in detail with you. I'm so glad I switched myself and kids to Spokane Family Smiles and would definitely recommend them to others!

Dr. Shumway is the best dentist I have been to in my 67 year old life. He shows you what is wrong with a tooth by taking a picture of it and showing you and explaining everything. It shows he cares. I feel very comfortable being in his care and I am deathly afraid of dentists. UPDATE: 69 now and still seeing Dr Shumway and his wonderful staff on a regular basis. I feel blessed to have found a dentist and staff that makes me feel so comfortable. I no longer have a deathly fear of dentists. I HIGHLY recommend

My whole family comes here. I have been here since I was a kid and it was Dr. Trantow. Then he retired and now it is Dr. Shumway. I didn't think anyone could replace Dr. Trantow, but Dr. Shumway sure has exceeded my expectations. I Highly recommend him for sure, and continue to refer my friends and family to him.

Going to the dentist is normally very daunting for me but Dr. Shumway came highly recommended so I made appointments for my husband and myself. I had a cap come loose on my front tooth and needed to have it repaired ASAP. The entire staff is wonderful. I've already had some work done and honestly was amazed at how comfortable they made me feel! I would highly recommend them to anyone, especially someone who is fearful of dental work.
