I am proud that dentistry is one of the most respected and trusted healthcare professions. While many techniques have evolved since I completed dental school in 1991, what hasnt changed is my approach to patient care: I want each person to know they are important to me, that I value who they are, and want them to achieve their dental goals, whatever they may be.
Becoming a dentist was a logical path for me. My father is a retired dentist and I grew up seeing how much he cared about his patients well-being and how important they were to him. At the same time, I realized that his being a dentist allowed him flexibility to still be a family man. He never missed one of my sporting events!
In the years I have been practicing, Ive found that its the connections I have with patients, and what they teach me, that bringthe greatest fulfillment. Each person has a story to tell, and I learn volumes about them, their fascinating lives and experiences, simply by listening.
Although my doctoral studies had me well-prepared to see and treat patients, dentistry is a constantly changing profession. The ongoing technological developments, along with new materials and methodologies, offer new options and ways of approaching patient care.
It is my responsibility to stay current on the latest developments:studying and evaluating each in order to determine if it should be brought into the practice. New does not always equate to best, soI refuse to offer any treatment I would not recommend for a loved one.
These organizations allow me to learn from the leading dental practitioners and researchers. I take a range of continuing education courses at meetings and conferences, as well as attend lectures and seminars, and read the variousjournals put out bythe organizations.
Heather, my wife, holds a BSN, MBA, and a PhD. She teaches philosophical ethics and is the smartest woman I know! Her business experience is vital to the health of our practice. She is a member of the honorary nursing sorority Sigma Theta Tau. She was also a professional cheerleader for the Pacers, Colts, and Bulls.
Clayton, our son, is in dental school at the University of Florida. Hes also a scratch golfer and loves to try new cuisine and new places to travel. He is a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Emma, our daughter, is also a graduate fromthe University of Florida. She is currently studing for her GRE and will be applying to PA school soon. Emma swam for the Florida Gators and the 200m butterfly at the Olympic trials.
Were avid boaters and love traveling and golfing. I also enjoy volunteering with and supporting the Religious Community Association, which feeds the hungry and underserved in Pinellas County as well as the Clearwater Holiday Jazz.
Mindy was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin andmoved to Floridain 1985; she is a serious Green Bay Packers fan! Mindy's education and experience liein the legal field; She is still a Florida Registered Paralegal and Notary. As a spirited people person and love for life, she has been a perfect fit for our office. So far, she loves working with our Dental Family and finds this new career as a great learning opportunity.
Sarah attended University of North Florida before completing her Dental Assistant certificate in 2019. She interned with our office for her practicum and loved us so much that she decided to join our team asDr. Spilman's primary Dental Assistant. Sarah's goal is to eventually further her career in Dental Hygiene School. In the meantime, she is perfectly content working and growing with Team Spilman!
Alex started working as a dental hygienist in 2010 and joined the Spilman Dentistry team in 2013. She provides gentle dental cleanings, preventive care, and plenty of useful information so each patient develops stronger homecare routines and healthier smiles. Alex loves building relationships with patients and looks forward to catching up on each persons news at their regular recall visits. She also loves working with Dr. Spilmanand the rest of the team whichsupport each other in order to provide the best dental care and stress-free visits!
A graduate of the University of Florida, Annette has been providing thorough, gentle dental hygiene care for more than 25 years. She uses her education and experience to help each of her patients improve and maintain their oral health, and loves seeing a clean, bright smile at a recall visit. Being part of a practice that focuses on individual care, and having the time to build long-lasting relationships with her patients, keepAnnette smiling!
Originally from Serbia, Mira graduated from the University of Belgrade with a doctorate in stomatology, a branch of medical science that addresses mouth and oral health disorders. In addition to her PhD, Mira is a registered dental hygienist who loves helping people improve their oral health and overall well-being. She provides a range of preventive and maintenance treatment and teaches each patient how to care for their smile. Mira loves being part of a close-knit team that makes patient comfort a priority!

Pleasant experience! Front desk staff member was friendly, greeting me upon my arrival. I was early for my appointment but wait was still minimal. Alex, the hygienist, was welcoming and made sure I was comfortable. She did a wonderful job while still being gentle. was gentle. She was friendly, chatted while she worked, helping me to feel at ease. Dr. Clayton Spilman performed a thorough exam and explained in detail what he recommended and why, as well as which option would give me the "biggest bang for my buck"! This office is very professional, appeared to be very clean and the entire staff was friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend Spilman Dentistry if you need to find a great dental office.

Friendly professional staff. I am one of those individuals who hate going to the dentist ... but Dr. Spilman is simply the best. He listens and responds to my individual concerns every time. Moreover, Alex does an outstanding job in cleaning my teeth. Simply put, I don't dread the experience anymore. Now there are two Dr Spilman dentists! And the son is equally as wonderful. Aa the saying goes, "Like father, like son." Just had to have a crown put on. Could not be more pleased. Always a great experience at Spilman dentistry! And then there is Alex, a great dental hygienist. With my sensitive teeth, she takes extra special care to make the dental cleaning experience a "walk in the park." Add to that her bubbly personality. I told her it's almost as good as going to the spa. You rock, Alex!

Although I don't often write letters of appreciation to a medical practice, I felt compelled to write you because of my extreme satisfaction with Spilman Dentistry and your new doctor, Dr Clayton Spilman. I really would like to express my gratitude for all his efforts on repairing my broken crown. Dr. Spilman has been my dentist for over 11 years. He is without question, one of the most profession Dr.'s I have ever had. Most importantly, his attention to the patients concerns are discussed at length! In addition, he goes over every aspect of the procedure to ensure the patient clearly understand the process. I have been visiting Dr Spilman for over fifteen years. He has never ever hurt me. That was a priority for me. He is kind and explains everything and shows you pictures to help you understand what's happening in your mouth. He is patient with everyone but, even more so with my Mom. She is eighty-nine. Dr Spilman keeps up with new dental procedures. He recently updated the equipment on his office. Plus soon his son Clayton will be joining his practice. All the work Dr Spilman has done in my mouth was terrific. I am so thankful he is in St Petersburg. My husband and my daughter also visit Dr Spilman. And my daughter who lives in Maryland waits until she visits to have Alex clean her teeth. Nice office great people.

This is the Best Dentist in St. Pete!!! They are extremely good at all dentistry. I have been going their for over 30 years and trust them unconditionally. Their dental hygienist ( Alex) is fantastic and very gentle.
