Spencer & Spencer Pediatric Dentistry - Pediatric dentist in Lees Summit, MO

Jodie (Stickley) Spencer was born and raised in Maryville, Missouri. She began dental school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City on a full-ride Navy scholarship after accepting a commission as a Naval officer in 1999. The Spencers spent three years in Japan on assignment from the Navy, during which time their two youngest children, Madison and Brady were born. During their tour in Japan, Dr. Jodie was chosen as Junior Officer of the Quarter and Junior Officer of the Year of the hospital in which she worked-the first dentist to be recognized as such. She was also awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and one Navy Commendation Medal during that tour, a significant achievement for such a short period of time.

Dr. Jodie loves her job as a pediatric dentist and treats each patient with a gentle Mother 's touch. The Spencers are adamant that each patient is treated as if they were their own child, and are thrilled to have such a wonderful staff. In her free time, Dr. Jodie loves spending time with her family, and often can be found having family 'campouts' in the living room on weekends. Other beloved family activities include boating, traveling, and lots of trips to the library and bookstore as she and her children are all avid readers.

Dr. Jodie Spencer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry as well as a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, the Greater Kansas City Dental Society, and the Eastern Jackson County Dental Association.

Normally good service and no issues, but recently ran into an issue where they billed incorrectly for a filling/tooth check as a limited visit instead of a tooth check, which caused a cleaning visit to be rejected. Insurance said their office had incorrectly billed using the wrong code and suggested their office would need to file an amended claim because it should have been billed as a tooth related visit instead of a limited visit, which gets elevated to the level of a full exam, which insurance only allows two per year. The office seemed helpful at first, but later became very rude about their mistake and refused to correct their mistake without apology. We always had paid on time without any problems over several years doing business with their office, but this last visit they rudely mentioned that they wouldn't even see our other child for a cleaning without paying up front for the amount caused by their billing error as well as the projected bill after insurance for the filling that was to be done. Most surprising was Jodie, who I had known from college and was trying to bring business her way, having the audacity to suggest my passing along what the insurance company said their office would need to do to correct their billing mistake seemed like insurance fraud to her. Have been going to them for years and got along well with them; but treated very poorly like a good loyal customer means nothing to them. After this terrible experience, will not be recommending their office to anyone else, and will be checking into other providers who care about their customers.

We love this office. It's clean, has a fun atmosphere, and the care given by Dr. Jody is excellent. Dr. Jody and her assistants are kind, knowledgeable, and patient. They always educate my kids and myself whenever we go.

The entire staff here was so friendly and kind to both me and my children! The lobby was intriguing with a jungle feel, but not too overstimulating for children. The office was so clean and comfortable and fun! The kids love the prize dispenser at the end. The dentist, Dr Jody Spencer, was EXCELLENT. She helped me understand my childrens' dental health in new ways. I highly recommend this pediatric dentist office!

Potential patients beware! Just as the LSR-7 school district isn't what it was post covid, neither is Spencer & Spencer Pediatric Dentistry. After 10+ years as their patient, they have effectively refused to care for my children because of a past cancellation during the spring of 2021. To add to this, they continued to see my children in the summer of 2021 and allow me to book another appt for January 2022 at which time they refused to see my children citing spring 2021! If this is how they treat their long standing patients, I can assure you, NO GRACE WILL BE GIVEN TO ANY NEW PATIENT! I am a business professional and certainly understand the business side of things, but the lack of understanding for a long existing patient is not the place I will continue to take my children.

My daughter is just over 2 years old and this was her first dental visit. Many had recommended Spencer & Spencer, so we decided to take her here. After seeing how everyone interacts with young kids, especially 2 year olds at their first visit, it's no wonder they come highly recommended! My husband and I were completely shocked when our daughter got right up in the chair and let the hygienist brush her teeth. They are fantastic!

Trust your instincts and run away! Absolutely loved this place when I took my 4 and 2 year olds for a cleaning. However, everything changed when we returned for a filling a few weeks later. I walked my 4 year old to the back where they said they were going to need to give her gas. So, I sat down and held her hand. The assistant was very nice and explained everything to my daughter and started the gas. Then the dentist came in. He did not say a word. Did not acknowledge us in any way...not even "good morning!". This was very strange as during our first visit he was very friendly (as was his wife). The assistant came over and told me I needed to go out to the waiting room. I said that I preferred to stay. She furtively glanced over at the dentist and nervously told me that I could not be in the room for the procedure. I explained that I would not leave my 4 year old, especially if she was going to be incapacitated, and had never been asked to do so at her previous dentist. The assistant said that they do not allow parents to stay with their children for any procedures. Big Red Flag. I asked the dentist why this was the case. He could not give me any reason....We sat in awkward silence while I waited for an answer. Finally he turned red and said, " I refuse to proceed with you here!" I told him I refused to leave her. More awkward silence and a very uncomfortable assistant. Finnaly, I said, "I guess we are at an impasse and I will need to find a new dentist." He was very obviously angry and said, "Go right ahead!" and stormed out. The assistant took the mask off of my daughter and we left. Why in the world they think any parent would leave a small child in a room alone with someone they don't know ( no matter how friendly he/she acted during the first visit) especially when they are going under anesthesia is beyond me. After reading some of these reviews, I see that other parents felt the same as I did. And, some felt pressured to leave the room and later heard from their kids how "mean" the dentists were. Remember that as parents we have the right to do what we think is best for them! These dentists who are the epitome of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are not what is best for kids.

This is such a fun office! The jungle and animals made it very fun and exciting for my 3yo! The staff is friendly and excellent with kids! Dr. Jodie Spencer was so amazing with my daughter and explained every step of what she was doing in ways a toddler could understand. They understand a toddlers attention span and patience is very short so they are quick and keep the atmosphere fun... Disney+ on the tv is also helpful. Lol. Highly recommend!

My kids are minors (hence pediatric dentist) however I am not allowed to go back with them nor was I allowed to even speak with the dentist. Not only could I not go back with them, I was not even allowed to wait in the waiting room. I was told I had to wait in the hall, All in the name of COVID. Funny thing is other people were allowed to stay in the waiting room, and yes I was properly wearing a mask the entire time. I do not understand this mentality nor do I agree with this process at all. This will be my last trip and the last dollar I spend with Spencer and Spencer.
