Dr. Sparks is truly a proud West Virginian and an avid Mountaineer fan. Just walk into his St. Albans office and you will have no doubt where his sport loyalties lie it is decorated from ceiling to floor in everything WVU. Beyond his love for his home state and alma mater, Dr. Sparks is even more proud to be a daddy to three gorgeous children and husband to the worlds most amazing wife and mother, Jade. Nothing gives him more joy than playing on the trampoline with his oldest son, Logan; pretending to defend himself from his middle sons, Noah, karate moves; and taking his baby girl, Lily, on walks to find bugs. It is clear that Dr. Sparks family is his life and his true happiness is the relationships he has with the many amazing members of the Charleston/St. Albans community.
Dr. Sparks was born and raised in St. Albans, WV, where he graduated from St. Albans High School in 2002. He then headed to West Virginia Wesleyan College where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in just three years, allowing him to fast track his goal of becoming an orthodontist. While in dental school, Dr. Sparks received a number of honors including Top Graduate Class of 2009, graduating Valedictorian from West Virginia University with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He then continued his education by studying orthodontics at West Virginia University where he received his certificate and a Masters of Science degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in 2012. Besides conventional braces, Dr. Sparks has special interest and training in cleft-lip/palate treatment, habit appliances, and Invisalign.
He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics after successfully completing all phases of the ABO certification exam in 2012. In fact, Dr. Sparks is one of only eight board certified orthodontists in West Virginia and the only one in the Charleston/St. Albans area. Following this tremendous achievement, he was asked to serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Orthodontics at WVU School of Dentistry where he teaches residents the necessary skills to become an orthodontist.
Dr. Sparks has become involved in many professional Orthodontic and Dental Organizations. He is a member of the American Board of Orthodontics, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Southern Association of Orthodontics, the West Virginia Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the Kanawha Valley Dental Society. He enjoys being an active member in his community and volunteers with many organizations. When asked about his volunteer work in the community, Dr. Sparks stated he took great pride in helping support a community that supported him growing up by offering scholarships, rewarding community service, and helping with charitable fundraising efforts. Having grown up in good ol St. Albans, WV, Dr. Sparks certainly has that hometown pride and is thrilled to be able to give back to the community where he was born and raised!
Both Dr. Sparks and his team maximize continuing education to provide state-of-the-art treatment and exceptional skill. Each staff member has completed the West Virginia Orthodontic Assistants exam and Dr. Sparks is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
While acknowledging that he works hard and always does his best, Dr. Sparks readily admits he is surrounded by amazing, staff, and patients that make Sparks Family Orthodontics what it is. Dr. S is a very traditional family man but he also loves to have a good time. Outside of work, you will often find him swimming in the pool with one of his four kiddos or teaching future orthodontists at West Virginia University and Medical College of South Carolina. One of his favorite past-times is people-watching on the coast of any beach. He's got the best job in the world and is surrounded by the best people. Period!
Nicole loves spending time with her hubby, Josh, and bonus kid, Cale. Outside the office, she is usually doing what tom-girls do best - fishing, camping and being the outdoor rough and tumblin' girl everyone loves!
Jody is chock-full of character and a one-of-a-kind personality. Shes a down to earth gal that likes good ol gospel songs and a nice slice of cornbread. Jody holds the privilege of being the only person at Sparks Family Orthodontics to be able to perform most any and all duties - mainly because she has worked in nearly every area in our office at some point in her tenure. In fact, Jody has been a part of our team for over 20 years. Currently, she works with patients and parents to help them understand the process involved with treatment, helps process all insurance claims, and is our liaison to software and IT companies. With so much on her plate at work, its amazing that she is able to make the time to stop and chat with patients. She loves seeing the results of the work we do, especially with our surgical patients, since she was one, too! We love her and know you will too!
Outside work, Jody is a true family gal. There is no doubt she loves her husband, kiddos, and grand kiddos because she pretty much does nothing without them. Full of personality and zing - that's our Jody!
'W'...'V'...'U'...can you hear the chant in your head. If not, meet Adam and he will teach it to you. A true Mountaineer fan literally bleeding blue and gold no matter the sport. At Sparks Family Orthodontics, Adam will help you with all your financial and insurance needs. In 2014, we finally convinced him to join our team! He brings with him an extensive financial background from years working in the banking industry. It comes in handy when explaining patients financial options and commitments. Adam often states he loves working in an office that places the needs of patients first and provides the best possible customer service for each individual.
Outside work, Adam spends most of his time with his wife, bonus kids, and his newest son, Oliver, doing what you would expect draggin them all to a Mountaineer game or somewhere to watch one. If he's not doing that, he's coaching his kids in some sport in preparation to become a mountaineer!
Tina has two great loves in life beyond family and friends country music and food. This down- home country girl is one you will absolutely love! Tina has been working in the field of orthodontics for nearly 25 years and has been with our office since 1995. She has worked as an orthodontic assistant and currently serves as our treatment coordinator; Tinas goal is to make everyones orthodontic experience stress-free and enjoyable. She often states her favorite part of her job is seeing the confidence that having an awesome smile brings to our patients.
Tina adores babies and her family; so when she is not in the office she usually is with one of her two kiddos or husband 4-wheelin on the Hatfield and McCoy Trail or dreaming about dippin' her toes in the sand!
Courtney is the only girl (who isnt 5 years old) youll ever meet that will literally skip as her primary mode of transportation. When shes in a REALLY good mood, this quickly evolves into a gallop which can be dangerous. Courtney has been our all things, lab-related expert, around here since 2018. But dont let that fool you, she has been in orthodontics for over 15 years. Courtney often states she loves working with our team and considers us to be the best orthodontic office around! Her favorite part about her job is seeing the transformed smiles at the end of a patients treatment.
Outside of work, Courtney is a pastors wife to her amazing husband Robbie and mother to six wonderful children. So, when not making appliances for our patients, Courtney does what pastors wives to best churchin and singin to anyone who will listen!
Mandy is everyones dream vacation partner a go with the flow, always up for a new adventure, fly by the seat of your pants kind of girl. She has been in orthodontics for nearly 16 years but recently became a member of the Sparks Family Orthodontics team. She loves to have fun at work and is always laughing and joking around with patients! Mandys favorite aspect of her job is that she has a positive, lasting influence on a persons life, and loves being a part of creating an incredible, life-changing smile!
If you ever come in the office and notice a series of darling, seasonal decorations, ample yet tasteful design elements, or notice that Dr. Sparks is dressed remotely fashionable, then youve seen Jades handiwork. Dr. Sparks gushes about his amazing wifes talents and sweetness and loves her more than life itself. He constantly wonders when shes going to realize she accidentally married him and had his babies. In the office, Jade is a multi-talented member of the team, wearing many hats with knowledge galore! Her career began in secondary education but always says her heart is in orthodontics and absolutely love(s) it.
Carie is one of our lovely Orthodontic Assistants who is good at pretty much whatever she tries - and shes tried just about everything! She has been a member of our team since 2007, taking a 4-year break while having twin boys. Carie is also quite possibly the kindest person youll meet. Her awesome skills and heart of gold make Carie a favorite among many patients. Come in, meet her, tell her about yourself and within seconds youll feel at home. Carie often states her favorite thing about our office is seeing patients smile and the confidence that comes from having that beautiful smile. Shes very thankful to be working with such a warm and welcoming team!
When not in the office, Carie spends most of her time with her son Davin, her fianc, Tyler, and their twin boys, Emmerson and Grayson. Carie enjoys going to concerts and traveling, but most of all, spending time with her family.
If someone introduces themselves to you with an uncontrollable laugh and a wink, it has to be our Jennifer. But pay no mind, she is simply saying hello. Shes quirky, fun, and always playing jokes but thats why patients love her! Her laugh is infectious and everyone loves her! Although Jennifer is one of the newest members of the Sparks Family Orthodontics Team, that does not mean she is inexperienced. She has been in orthodontics for nearly a decade and in dentistry for over 20 years! Jennifer loves seeing patients smile and the confidence that comes from having that beautiful smile. She often states she is very thankful to be working with such a warm and welcoming team!
When not laughing uncontrollably or playing on Tic Tok, Jennifer spends most of her time with her husband and three kiddos. Basically, if you are looking for Jennifer and shes not at home, shes watching one of her kids at a ball game, running her kiddos to the ball game, or if shes lucky enough, just lying on a beach somewhere!
Susan is the lovely face behind all of the plastic-driven appliances and retainers we use at Sparks Family Orthodontics! She has been in the dental field for more than 40 years and on our team since 2020. Since Susan works with patients at the very beginning of treatment as well as at the end, she gets to see some truly amazing transformations! She often states the one thing she loves most about our office is that when you walk through the door, youre welcomed by family. There is no doubt that you will love this amazing lady!
Susan and her husband, Joe, have two wonderful daughters and four beautiful grandchildren, not to mention a crazy German Shepard. When not in the office, you can expect to find her visiting one of her daughters and enjoying those grandkiddos!
This is Ally. WARNING: Youll love her!!! Shes quirky, fun, and always joking around but thats why patients love her! Although Ally has only been a member of the Sparks Family Orthodontics Team since 2020, she worked for a general dentist a couple of years before transferring to the orthodontic field. In her time here so far, shes loved seeing patients smile and the confidence that comes from having that beautiful smile. Shes also very thankful to be working with such a warm and welcoming team!
Kansas is the kind of girl that loves to sing and have fun but pretends to be serious from time to time. She started with us as a sterilization tech but was quickly promoted to a clinical assistant. She loves to have fun at work and is always laughing and joking around with patients! Kansas absolutely is devoted to her family; outside the office, you can expect to see her riding in the woods on her side-by-side with her fianc, Adam, or with one of her boys at a local football game!
