Dr. Michael S. Spangler was born and raised in Shelby, a small town in Western North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received an undergraduate degree in Chemistry. He continued his studies at the UNC-CH School of Dentistry and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. After passing the North Carolina Dental Board Exam, Dr. Spangler spent 2 years working for the Indian Health Service in Elko, Nevada. He also spent a year working for Africa Inland Mission in Kijabe, Kenya, before beginning work in private practice.
Dr. Spangler moved to Clemmons, North Carolina in 2000 and spent several years as an associate in a multi-doctor practice in Winston-Salem. When the opportunity to practice dentistry in his own office became available, Dr. Spangler moved into his office current location on Reynolda Road.
Dr. Spangler practices all forms of dentistry for the entire family, from preventative and comprehensive restorative care to teeth whitening and other cosmetic procedures. He is a very compassionate and gentle dentist, with patient comfort being extremely important to him. Dr. Spangler enjoys talking and getting to know his patients and their families, with his easygoing, likable personality helping to put patients at ease.
Dr. Spangler is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the Forsyth County Dental Society. He served a term as President of the Forsyth County Dental Society in 2007. He is also a board member of the Community Care Center in Winston-Salem. In addition, Dr. Spangler regularly attends continuing education courses to stay up to date on the latest advancements in dental techniques and materials.
Dr. Spangler is married and has four children. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Spanglers focus is on his family and their various activities together. Dr. Spanglers blood runs North Carolina Blue, but he also enjoys cheering on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons whenever they are not playing the Tarheels.

My dentist came highly recommended on NextDoor and Google. Now, of course I did my own research but none of it did him justice. This doctor is a remarkable dentist who is great at his craft, in addition to being warm, kind, thoughtful, and funny. P.S. When I needed surgery, he sent me to an outstanding oral surgeon as well. I have no notes. He's awesome! *Highly recommend*

Dr. Spangler and his hygienists have always been there for us., whether it's an emergency or a routine cleaning. I would recommend his practice to everyone.

It had been more than five years since my last dentist trip before finding Dr. Spangler's office. He and his staff have been extremely friendly, courteous, and respectful. My visits have been very pleasant (even with fillings to fix two chipped teeth!) and they have definitely earned a new customer. Thanks!

Seems like some unethical billings going on in this office. I was charged $20 more than my wife (we both had our teeth cleaned at the same day) and yet we were both in the chair about the same amount of time. My insurance will not cover the additional $20. I have texts sent to my wife with the time stamped on it and logged when I went in and when I was done, but they are saying that I was in the chair longer and therefore charged an additional $20. They also seem to push crowns that may or may not be necessary. I was told I might have to have a crown to replace porcelain fillings and my wife was told she needed a crown because she has a SMALL hole in the SIDE of her tooth which I feel like could easily be filled with a regular filling, especially since a small filling came out of that hole to begin with. But they told her she needed a crown and said it would be almost $800 WITH insurance coverage. Just seems like something unethical may be going on to bring in more money? And when talking with Angela at the front desk, she was very adamant that they were in the right even though my wife told her that we have time stamps on the texts showing pretty much how long I was in there. She did not seem very personable at all about this matter and made it out to be tough luck for us. I had hoped this would a dentist that wasn't only after money, but I think I am wrong. Just didn't feel like this matter was handled in the most professional way.

Dr. Spangler and his entire team offer the very highest level of dental care. Professional, extremely competent, helpful and friendly ... from the folks at the front desk, to the hygienists, and to Dr. Spangler himself. The billing department, through Angela, is especially helpful, and effective, in assisting with insurance claims. Count me as a long term and satisfied patient! --------- AND a 2021 follow-up based on Dr. Spangler and crew successfully coordinating a three-tooth dental implant process during this past year. A long-term bridge failed, on my upper right jaw, which required a lengthy and fairly complicated process to remedy that gap. Dr. Spangler made a good referral to the oral surgeon and then oversaw the fabrication of all of the necessary interim bridges (kudos to Karen, especially!) and final crowns, overseeing the process until completion. At every step he and his staff made sure that I was comfortable, and at the end of the process, he made every necessary adjustment to ensure that I was completely satisfied with the result. Once again, 5 stars to Dr. Spangler, Karen, Brenda and Angela!

We've been at this practice since 1996. Dr. Spangler has been our family dentist since he took over the practice. He, as well as his staff, are awesome! They care about their patients, are thorough at what they do, and answer any questions you may have.

I am a former patient of Dr. Spangler. I have moved out of state...otherwise I would still be a patient of his! Dr. Spangler and his staff have always been accomodating as to appointment times, as well as being friendly and patient. I know that every procedure he did had to be done....I don't know that with my present dentist. I do know that the procedure he is now suggesting I have done is twice the price of what Dr. Spangler would charge for the same. Some of that may be due to the location I am in now, but there is just nothing like trust and integrity, and Dr. Spangler certainly has that.

Dr. Spangler is an excellent dentist. He is highly competent and unfailingly kind - and makes a visit to the dentist as easy as such a thing can be. His entire staff is the same - friendly and easy to work with. I can't imagine receiving better dental care that i receive at Dr. Spangler's office.
