Dr. Perlman and Dr. Mai are passionate about their commitment to give back to the community. Since his first year of dental school, Dr. Perlman has participated in Pelotonia, a bicycle tour that raises money for cancer research. He was the captain of the dental school team for three years and has continued to participate directly or donate annually since. While Dr. Perlman was riding bikes to fight cancer, Dr. Mai was traveling with PODEMOS, a team of medical and dental students and professionals, to impoverished communities in Latin America and providing free dental treatment to those without the means or access to care.
Currently, Dr. Perlman and Dr. Mai are working with local schools to provide free dental screenings to children who may otherwise never visit a dental office. They collaborate annually with Expanding Your Horizons Network, which teaches and encourages young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (S.T.E.M.). Dr. Mai also works with Union Gospel Mission Dental Clinic and Medical Teams International Mobile Dental Clinic to provide free dental care to the homeless and uninsured members of our community.
Our practice values the importance of supporting and linking up with local businesses and programs outside of dentistry. Dr. Perlman and Dr. Mai believe in the value of sports and are proud to sponsor local teams. In addition, Dr. Mai is spotlighting local artists in the Pacific Northwest by featuring their art for sale throughout the office and hosting open house events. Ultimately, Dr. Perlman and Dr. Mai would like to create a non-profit program through the artwork to carry out full-mouth reconstructions (smile makeovers) for victims of domestic violence. Dr. Jason Perlman grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, before attending Arizona State University, where he received a Bachelors degree in Business Management. Following a brief time working with the city of Phoenixs small business relations team, he traveled back to his home state to attend the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He then trained at an general practice residency program at Akron City Hospitals Center for Dental Health, where he received awards for excellence in restorative, periodontal, and endodontic therapy.
Dr. Perlmans goal is to educate his patients by demonstrating how their oral health relates to overall body wellness. In doing so, he hopes to enable his patients to take control of their health. He works closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure his patients receive high-quality, comprehensive interdisciplinary care.
Dr. Perlman views dentistry as an art he gets to practice daily. He uses his extensive educational and training background with the latest technology to bridge art and science together. He believes in building personal and professional relationships while dissipating dental phobias through trust, caring sensitivity, warmth, and sincerity. By helping improve the oral health in the community, he hopes to improve peoples overall quality of life, starting with a comfortable, healthy, and aesthetic smile.
Dr. Perlman loves dentistry and has continuously pursued education after receiving his doctorate degree. In particular, he trains at the L.D. Pankey Institute and at Spear Education, which are both recognized worldwide for excellence in advanced technical dentistry. He is also a member of iPankey, a Seattle/Tacoma study club and is in training to become part of the faculty at the Pankey Institute, which focuses on treating patients with complex dental needs, including TMJ Disorder and obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Perlman has complete mastery training in dental sleep medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Perlman has a passion for surgery and has completed a Clinical Implantology Residency with the Washington Academy of General Dentistry and is now a visiting faculty member for the program!
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Perlman loves spending time with his wife, Karyn, with whom he shares a love for the outdoors. Together, they spend their free time on weekend hiking and backpacking trips, particularly enjoying when their dogs Moe, Mickey and Mochi are able to join. He is also an avid bicyclist, and for the past ten years, he has participated in Pelotonia, a grassroots bike tour that raises money for cancer research.
Dr. Karyn Mai grew up in Seattle, where she attended the University of Washington as a Gates Millennium Scholar and earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative History of Ideas. She then moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she graduated with honors from the Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Dr. Mai completed additional training through a general practice residency at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. She is trained in implant placement and restoration, endodontic and orthodontic (braces & aligners) treatments, and is certified in the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique to correct gum recession and Facial Esthetics injections (Botox, Fillers, PDOs) for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes.
Dr. Mais professional philosophy is that high-quality comprehensive dental care should not be considered a luxury, but a service accessible to all. Dr. Mai has a long-term commitment to community dentistry and has volunteered to provide free dental care locally to the homeless community with the Union Gospel Mission Dental Clinic and with Medical Teams International Mobile Dental Clinic. Globally, she has been involved with a number of travelling medical and dental clinics serving Costa Rica and Honduras. Dr. Mais goal is to form long-lasting relationships with her patients by breaking down the common fears of going to the dentist. She wants to provide gentle and well-informed comprehensive care with the patients concerns and needs always at the forefront of the service she provides. She understands that dental function and aesthetics are critical to overall mental and physical wellness and she would like to be a partner in achieving these goals with her patients.
As the many scopes of dentistry are constantly evolving, Dr. Mai understands the importance of being a lifelong learner through continuing dental education. The wide array of dental services that she provides is a testament to her dedication and training. Dr. Mai has a sharp esthetic eye for cosmetic dentistry (veneers, dental composite bonding) and facial esthetics injections. Dr. Mai has completed advanced master level training at the American Academy of Facial Esthetics and the Pankey Institute. Dr. Mai has special interests in periodontal (gum) surgery to correct recession and gummy smiles as well as orthodontic (braces) procedures. She is a certified Invisalign, ClearCorrect, and Six Month Smiles provider. In addition, she actively seeks out the latest dental research and technology to provide the highest level of care to her patients.
Dr. Mai is an enthusiast of the outdoors. She is an avid photographer, taking many of her shots while on hiking and camping trips. Many of her adventures and travel photography can be seen throughout the office. Having an appreciation for art and music, she occasionally paints and is teaching herself to play the banjo as well! Dr. Mai loves dentistry, as it allows her to incorporate her artistic skills with healthcare and build trusting relationships with her patients.
