Dr. Neil Salesky is proud to be named one of Connecticut Magazines top dentists. Out of over 3,000 dental professionals, the list features 411 of the states best dentists across seven specialties, as chosen by their peers.
The list of top dentists was featured in the July 2020 issue of Connecticut Magazine, and the results came from their annual poll of dental professionals. The magazine reached out to all of Connecticuts licensed dentists, sending them a questionnaire that asked them to name the dentists they would receive treatment from themselves, and who they would recommend to their own family members. The dentists were allowed to nominate their peers from the fields most prominent specialties, including general dentistry, endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and prosthodontics.
Dr. Neil Saleskys dedication to his craft, his patients, and his community is what really makes him stand out among his peers. At Southington Dentistry, he has made sure that the comfort and safety of his patients are at the top of the priority list. In fact, he specializes in treating those with dental phobia, making them comfortable enough to forget their bad experiences or fear of the dentists chair. Theres nothing he likes more than hearing a patient who was nervous at first say, That wasnt so bad! after their treatment.
Outside of the office, Dr. Salesky keeps himself busy by giving his time to others. On more than one occasion, he has been a part of mission trips to South America, where he has provided treatment to indiginous patients who are otherwise unable to access dental care. He also mentors UConn dental students, providing guidance for the next generation of dentists. In addition to his commitment to people, hes also a lover of animals. Because of this, he donates 10% of his dental hygiene profits to local animal rescue groups.
Dr. Salesky and the rest of the Southington Dentistry team have truly gone above and beyond this year, as dentists everywhere have had to jump to make changes to fight the COVID-19 virus. For the health of our patients, we have remained at the forefront of sanitation practices, ready to do whatever it takes to provide the dental treatment our community deserves, so they can get the care they need, safely.
In a continued effort to keep our environment clean and virus-free, we have installed state-of-the-art air purification and aerosol removal systems at our Plantsville office. The combination of these systems purify and re-energize the air six times an hour. This sophisticated technology traps and removes 99.998% of particles at a size of 0.1 microns. For some context, the virus that causes COVID-19 is about 0.12 microns, making it large enough to be filtered out by our purifying systems.
For us, investing in the latest technology is an investment in our patients, so when they visit Southington Dentistry, they can do so without worry, like a breath of fresh air. Thats just one of the things that makes Dr. Salesky a Top Dentist.
Its a new instrument that can be used as an alternative to the drill in many procedures. A microscopically fine powder is carried to the tooth by a stream of air, gently spraying away decay. In a simple sense, you could say it works like a precise miniature sandblaster.
Thanks to its precision and gentleness, the air abrasion unit allows us to treat decay at an earlier stage without as much removal of healthy tooth material, thereby helping to preserve the strength of the tooth. Teeth treated this way may be less likely to require crowns in the future. Smaller fillings are less susceptible to wear and may last longer.
The air abrasion system creates a cavity surface that is so ideal for use with tooth-colored (composite) fillings, we can place those fillings faster than ever before. In some instances, using the air abrasion unit actually allows us to complete your treatment in fewer visits.
The aspect of the air abrasion that many patients appreciate most is its comfort. The system greatly reduces heat and vibration, two sources of discomfort traditionally associated with fillings. Thats why this system is often used without nesthetics. This also enhances our ability to treat patients who are pregnant or medically compromised. With air abrasion, we can often treat children without the two things they fear most- the needle and the drill. But since for some people air abrasion may involve minor discomfort, it would be inaccurate to call it painless. filling.
Absolutely. The tiny particles we use are alpha alumina, a pure biocompatible substance long used in medicine and food. In fact, it is a prime ingredient in several popular whitening toothpastes. Only a tiny amount of this microscopically fine powder is actually used in each procedure and most of it is immediately removed by our evacuation system. Scientific tests show that patients would have to undergo about 28 typical 20-30 second air abrasion procedures in order to inhale enough alpha alumina to equal the weight of one grain of table salt. The amount inhaled in a single procedure is about 1000 times less that then limit established by the Occupational Safety and Heath Administration.
Not necessarily. Thought the air abrasion procedure will dramatically reduce our overall reliance on the drill, it is not appropriate for every part of every procedure. For example, we will continue to use the drill to remove silver (amalgam) fillings and do crown preparations. Please ask us about the role the air abrasion might play in your treatment.
