Dr. Haywood attended the University of Michigan where he received his undergraduate botany degree before moving on to the University of Detroit where he graduated cum laude with his dental school class of 1987. He was selected for admission to the United States Air Force advanced residency program in dentistry.
Working closely with specialists for the next five years, Dr. Haywood completed postgraduate internships in oral surgery, orthodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, and oral facial prosthodontics.
During this time Dr., or Captain Haywood, distinguished himself by serving in the Gulf War where he received a USAF Commendation medal. Dr. Haywood completed his cosmetic post-graduate training at the prestigious New York Universitys Aesthetic Continuum in 1996 and 1997, studying under the world renowned Drs. Larry Rosenthal and Ross Nash. His advanced TMJ and reconstructive training is ongoing with the Peter Dawson Institute, and the renowned Dr. Jack Turbyfill.
Dr. Haywood is one of the few cosmetic dentists nationwide to be selected to perform an 'extreme smile makeover' on ABC. He has also been featured on WGAL/NBC and in publications such as the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Magazine, New Beauty Magazine and in the York Daily Record for his expertise in cosmetic dentistry.

I am the main patient coordinator for Dr. Haywoods practice. I have a long happy history in dentistry, which started in the insurance department of a larger practice in Owings Mills.. I love interacting with all my patients and getting to know new families. I am the one who is best able to help you with insurance questions or how to finance the dental care that insurance will not cover. We perform exceptional quality dental care here with our team. As a patient care coordinator, I most enjoy meeting new people who need us as well as specialized care we can deliver. I have a masters degree in international relations, and I feel my background helps me connect with people and develop good professional relationships. I am currently raising my two boys in Parkton, MD, which is located in nearby Baltimore County, but this practice feels like home to me.

Best dental practice. Best team. I used to avoid proper & consistent dental care because of really bad past experience. Now I actually look forward to my visits. Dr Haywood & the team make me feel comfortable & are always - always - helpful with advice & educating me on better personal care. Now I have no anxiety. Trust me. Dr Haywood is amazing. I had a crown that was loose and he was able to bring me in the office on a saturday and rebuild the post for the crown. I was very close to losing the crown upon examination. Dr Haywood took his time with me and explained what he was doing. I would definitely suggest seeing him when you find yourself needing a dentist. I will be returning to him for my future dental needs.

Needed emergency service done to a tooth. Called alot of other places but was told couldn't get me in. Or was told not taking new patients at this time. Southern York Smile didn't hesitate and took me in at there earliest time available. The Dentist and everybody there was very nice. I would recommend them to anybody. My wife and I will be regular patients from now on. Thank you for the great service.

After years of putting off dental work and meeting with other dentists suggesting that I "try this, or try that" I met Dr Haywood. He explained exactly what we needed to do to address the corrections needed, and provided a treatment plan that made sense. The best dental place I have been to hands down! There is free space to park, The location was conveniently located by the highway. The staff was very funny and friendly. They made sure they did whats best for me whether services were covered under my insurance or not. The doctor did measurements on my teeth and gumlines (something i cant ever remember being done) and he let me know he had a plan in place to keep my teeth intact and smiling bright. You can see the care the doctor has for his patients through the thoroughness of his work. They make you feel like family from the phone to the front door and I am glad I was recommended to this place.

Several years ago Dr. Haywood applied veneers to my teeth. He explained the procedure completely and I could not have been more satisfied. Since that time I have used the office for all my dental needs. They are always professional and the work superb. Dr. Haywood uses the latest technologies in dental care. I recommend them completely.

I had a tooth that needed to be pulled (I have had a few done previously and else where) and Dr. Haywood and Madi worked me into their schedule. From the very beginning, the experience was different. Typically my lips, cheeks and even nose will be numbed. This time, I was worried that I wasn't numb enough because I could still feel my face. I was wrong. Dr. Haywood and Madi knew what they were doing. They did such a great job, that my mouth never started throbbing as the medication wore off. It was by far the best tooth removal experience I have ever had. Dr. Haywood provides a treatment plan and you learn why the plan was created specifically for you- not just, hey- you have a cavity to fill. The care and concern for each patient is truly admirable! I will be switching my entire family over to Dr. Haywood for cleanings, tooth removals, implants and whitening. I love that he covers it all!

We are new to the area, making it worse to find anyone while in pain to take care of you.i called Dr. Haywood's office, they were able to see my husband and extract the tooth the same day! My husband said that he didn't even know the tooth had been pulled. GREAT WORK AND GREAT STAFF!

I had a great experience with my Invisalign treatment plan. Dr Haywood worked wonders at my last visit to make sure that I was confident in my smile. Ulyana has been so extremely kind and helpful in dealing with my difficult insurance company. She always has a smile and kind words. She goes above and beyond for patients. From the 1st visit, I was totally comfortable for Dr. HAYWOOD AND STAFF!!! I Had surgery and dentures made and have to say I am EXTREMELY EXSTATIC WITH THE OUT COME!!!!!!! The staff is very professional and fun. They have such a warm welcome all the time. Maddie is a great fit with Dr. HAYWOOD. I HAVE NO FEAR walking unto their office (as I have had with other offices).. I highly recommend this office for anyone who needs surgery , dentures, or implants. Had a need for emergency tooth extraction my dentist does not pull teeth. Referred me to an oral surgeon in Towson soonest appointment was April 14 and required a consultation before during anything. Consultation fee $225 and then starting fee of $775 to remove tooth could be higher! I called several dentist in SYC SAME NOTHING until APRIL. All requiring consultation before treatment. Saw someone suggest DR HAYWOOD in Shrewsbury!!! Called they got me in for an emergency visit that same day completed all dental needs that same day!! Office staff and Dr are TOPNOTCH! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THUS PRACTICE! Will be returning for all my future dental needs! His fee was less expensive then the oral surgeon and all others in Shrewsbury! THANK YOU DR HAYWOOD AND STAFF!

I haven't been to the dentist in years. I finally went yesterday. I must say the staff is absolutely amazing! They're very personable and friendly. I can't believe that I'm looking forward to my next appointment. Please give them a chance if you don't have a regular dentist or if your looking for a new one.

In 2006, I had bonding done to cover the gap between my two front teeth. It fell out in May 2020 and my teeth were left shaped in a bizarre way (I'll attach pics). The 2006 dentist had to alter my teeth to put the bonding material on. I finally made the decision to get veneers and I am SO thankful I found Dr. Haywood. He has truly changed my life. My expectations were exceeded. The entire experience, start to finish, was professional, yet personable, and I felt like I was in great hands. I 100% recommend Dr. Haywood. (P.S. Also, for anyone out there that is afraid of dental work, he provides sedation. Not just for oral surgery. For ANYTHING.)
