Dr. Hughes grew up in Hattiesburg, graduating from Hattiesburg High School in 1991. She graduated from Baylor University with a B.A. in Biology. She attended the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry. After graduating from Dental School in 1999, she moved to Hattiesburg. She practiced in a Community Health Center for several years before opening her own office, Southern Smiles, PLLC, in 2003. She is currently a member of the South Mississippi Dental Society, the Mississippi Dental Association and the American Dental Association. Dr. Hughes has 2 children and enjoys scrapbooking, cycling, scuba diving and traveling.
Dr. Hoang is a Hattiesburg native, graduating from Oak Grove High School in 2007. She graduated with honors from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. She attended the University of Mississippi Medical Center and received her Master's degree in Biomedical Science with honors before graduating Dental School. She was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Periodontics and Outstanding Achievement in Operative Dentistry in 2019 before moving back to her hometown, Hattiesburg. She is currently an active member of the Mississippi Dental Association, American Dental Association, Mississippi Association of Women Dentist, and South Mississippi Dental Society. When she isnt practicing dentistry, Dr. Hoang loves crafting, baking, and spending time outdoors.
Our Hygienist, Angela, prides herself on exceptional care for her patients. She gathers needed diagnostic information, such as x-rays dental charting and periodontal charting. She also provides our patients with gentle and thorough professional dental cleanings and periodontal therapy. Angela was a Dental Assistant for Dr Hughes for 8 years prior to going back to school for Dental Hygiene. Angela Graduated from Pearl River Community College in Dental Assisting in 2006 and the Dental Hygiene Program in 2016. She received the coveted Preventive Dentistry Award, an award for the hygienist that is the most thorough in educating patients about their dental health. Angela is very efficient, and organized, and treats every patient with thoughtfulness and consideration. She is fabulous at taking care of our patients needs and enjoys helping patients feel more comfortable.
Our Office Manager, Billie, has been working with us since 2014. She is key to our office running smoothly, professionally and with good business practices. She brings 25 years of Dental Experience to our team and is an integral part of the recent Southern Smiles growth! Billie is originally from Valley Park, MS and is moved to Hattiesburg in 2013. She loves her dogs and enjoys flea markets and local outdoor festivals. Billie has a daughter and 2 grandchildren to keep her busy when she's not at the office.

I've now seen both Dr. Hoang and Dr. Hughes, and they are both fantastic! The dental assistants and front of house staff are all very nice and helpful!

This was my first time visiting Southern Smiles and I was very impressed. The staff was absolutely amazing. I had mine and my sons appointment at the same time and they were so willing to help with my son and was great with him! Their facility was also very nice and clean!

I enjoy the atmosphere, professionalism and hospitality of Southern Smiles!! My Dentists are always cheerful, helpful and dental hygiene remains 100% on point with my on scheduled exams and recommend surgical procedures. I highly recommend this dental office!

Didn't inform me that they don't take my insurance. I even asked before I went back with the hygienist, but still didn't get a straight answer. Feel like that's kind of important for folks to know. $300 for just a cleaning - won't be going there again :/

Super friendly dental staff and front desk clerk. They answered all my questions ranging from a payment to all my dental questions. The dentist was extremely knowledgeable, personable and answered every question I had. I was incredibly anxious as I haven't seen a dentist in over 12 years, but both the hygienist and the dentist were very knowledgeable and made me feel at ease! I highly recommend anyone to go here if they need a check up, and this will be where I will be going for all future cleanings and check ups!

I was first referred to this office for my littlest babies tongue tie procedure. Even though he is my third kiddo I haven't ever dealt with it before so was a little nervous but Dr. Hughes and her team completely set my mind at ease. They were so sweet with my 4mo old and the procedure went great. I decided to bring my whole family there for dental care and they took great care of all of us. Everyone at the office is welcoming, friendly, and professional. Thank you!!!

Dr. Hughes and her staff were incredible. She spent an hour with my son who has special needs. She carefully explained the procedure we were having, aftercare, and all related risks. She has an amazing bedside manner. I am in healthcare and will absolutely be recommending her to any of my patients who need dental care.
