Here at Southern Smiles we strive to provide you with the highest level of treatment and service. Southern Smiles will not allow the insurer to dictate what treatment we perform. We decide what treatment is best for each individual patient. There is not a 'one size fits all' approach when it comes to your oral health, as some insurers would lead you to believe. We will be happy to discuss any concerns or questions you may have regarding your treatment. We want you to have a healthy, functional and beautiful smile that you value for a lifetime.
Our approach to patient treatment is wholly centered around the patient. First, we'll take a look at your situation and assess what needs to be done immediately, what can wait, and identify some other smile goals you have along the way. From there, we'll establish a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses all of your needs!
Dr. Hickman is a general dentist that is passionate about the care he provides to his patients. While he isn't working, he enjoys spending time with his family, attending sporting events and dental conventions. He is also an avid supporter of the Mary Persons' Bulldogs, and even serves as a member of the Monroe County Hospital Advisory Board on behalf of his community. Through his work he hopes to give back to the community he grew up in.
After graduating second in his class from Mary Persons High School, he attended undergraduate school at Georgia Southern University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1994. He pursued his dental degree at the Medical College of Georgia and graduated in 1998. After graduating, he went to work in partnership with Dr. John O. Bowcock. In 2012, Dr. Hickman started his own practice.
Throughout Dr. Hickman's twenty-one year dental career, he's been affiliated with many prestigious organizations. Dr. Hickman is an active member of the Georgia Dental Association, American Dental Association, and theCentral Georgia Dental Association. With these organizations, Dr. Hickman stays up to date on the latest oral health trends and treatments.

The staff, the assistants, and Dr. Hickman are genuinely the best. I have avoided the dentist as much as possible over the last several years due to bad experiences. The staff and assistants were patient and understanding for my initial visit, which was brought on by a broken tooth. I was very anxious, but the entire office created a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Dr. Hickman repaired my tooth and was very gentle and timely. I will continue to use Southern Smiles as our family dentist and highly recommend them to others as well.
