Dr. John Butler has been with Southern Ocean Orthodontics since 2010. During this time he has had the privilege of successfully treating thousands of patients with every possible orthodontic problem. Dr. Butler loves his profession and enjoys teaching his families in treatment about how he utilizes the best technology to create an environment for safe and efficient tooth movement. His patient population ranges from children as young as 7 years old, up to and including senior citizens who always wanted to have a great smile. Dr. Butler is easy to talk to and wants to answer your questions. He is currently welcoming new patients.
Dr. Butler was born in NJ and currently lives in Manahawkin with his wife and two children. The only thing Dr. Butler loves more than braces and straight teeth is spending time with his two young daughters, Capri and Dolcessa.
Dr. Butler received his BA in Psychology from Rutgers University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Temple Dental School and was the recipient for many awards including Most Outstanding Member of his senior graduating class. He earned his Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from UMDNJ.
Dr. Butler has be recognized by his fellow dentists as one of the Top Dentists in NJ in 2018 and 2019 (published in NJ Monthly Magazine). Thousands of dental practitioners were asked who they would refer their patients in need of dental care. The survey takes into account education, experience and patient results. He was also voted for by families in treatment as a Top Kids Doc for the past 6 years in a row (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019) by NJ Family Magazine! He is very proud of this achievement as it shows he has many happy patients, which is what its all about!!
Our staff contributes greatly to the overall care, comfort, and convenience of each patient. Along with Dr. Butler, our team works closely with each patient and their family. That's why it's so rewarding to watch a patient's confidence and self-esteem increase as their beautiful smile emerges. Now that's truly something to smile about!

Dr. Butler and staff are absolutely amazing and accommodating! I have been at the practice for almost 10 years with several children and always have a great experience! You are definitely in great hands here! Sharon is so helpful when you have any concerns!

Dr Butler gave my daughter the most beautiful smile! He anticipated the time to be 18 months and he completed her work right on time! I highly recommend for anyone wanting to brighten up their smile!!

Southern Ocean Orthodontics would get 10 stars if that was possible. Professional, clean, fun, knowledgeable, and polite people all around. My son was nervous for his expander and braces he needed but the dentist and everyone that we met with or worked with explained everything so he was comfortable. (Super awesome for kids!) We were well informed on all steps of what was going to happen and everything was done in a timely manner that worked for our schedule. So far so good!! We'll be coming back for my other son and continued work on number 1 so it's a good feeling to know they'll be in great hands!!

I have nothing but positive things to say about the care my daughter has been receiving from Dr. Butler and the entire staff at Southern Ocean Orthodontics. Not only do her teeth look really straight, but Dr. Butler stopped what he was doing in his personal life to meet us at the office on a Saturday afternoon when my daughter had an accident involving her teeth and braces. He fixed the brace and took measures to make sure her tooth was going to be ok. I would never use any other orthodontist besides Dr. Butler because I know that we are getting the best care possible with such a kind, caring and accommodating doctor.

Anybody who comes here for treatment is in great hands. You can tell right away that everybody here genuinely cares. It's a very welcoming environment, which means a lot as a 24 y/o getting braces for the first time. During my first visit, Dr Butler spent time going over the options available to me - nothing felt rushed or forced. Sharon is amazing. Marie, Joyce, Patti, and the others are all so great at what they do. I wish I could visit them more often!

My family and I are on vacation in LBI from Connecticut this week. My sons braces got lose and the end was very sharp and poking into his cheek. I called Dr. Butler and his staff to see if I could take him in to be seen even though we were not patients. They very sweetly told us to come right in! And they did it all for no charge!! Dr. Butler was so nice and fixed my son right up. We both said we wished he was closer to Ct because we would go to him!! Thank you so much!!

This place made my daughter cry cause she thinks she looks "dumb" with the way her powerchain was put on. She had also informed me that the "mean short lady" was very rude to her she had told me she forgot her name but she believes it starts with a j.

I'm new but I have to say from the first ten minutes this place was AMAZING. The staff is so sweet including Dr. Butler! Their COVID-19 prevention is on point meaning the wipe down anywhere that anyone has been for the next patient. Their office is very organized and has beautiful art on their walls! I 100% recommend going here!
