At South Temple Dental, we love a family atmosphere in which we come to know our patients. By doing so, we are best able to treat your mouth and make you happy. Our dentist in Salt Lake City works tirelessly to make you feel welcome and comfortable. You will see familiar faces each time you come back, unlike the chain dentists. We know visiting the dentist is not anybodys favorite thing to do, but you will leave smiling.
Dr. Updike is proud to say that he is your adviser in your dentistry. He is not like other dentists in Salt Lake City to tell you what to do, but rather is here to let you know all your options. After discussing the pros and cons of all your options and showing you all x-rays and photos of your teeth, we are confident that you will make the decision that is best for you.
Our Dentist, Dr. Spencer Updike, grew up in the Salt Lake area and graduated from Murray High School. He then went to California on a service mission for his church. After graduating from Brigham Young University, he attended Ohio State University and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery. After practicing in Arizona, he moved to Utah in the summer of 2010 and fulfilled a dream to purchase his own practice.
In his free time, Dr. Updike loves spending time with his wife and three children. They enjoy spending time outdoors, especially in the Utah summer weather after living in Phoenix. They look forward to getting away to Lake Powell and spending time hiking in the mountains. Dr. Updike also enjoys being involved with just about any sport and especially loves the Jazz. He is still trying to convince his wife to do the same.
At South Temple Dental we know that shots hurt, but they are necessary for us to help numb the area to continue the work. Thats why we use Dental Vibe: Injection Comfort System. Dental Vibe sends a vibrating pulse down to the nerves in your mouth, so while youre getting injected with the needle in your cheek or gums, you cant feel the needle poke. I have been a patient of Dr Spencer Updike for more than a year. He did for me two crowns without any problem. I'd say that he is an excellent dentist. He is a detailed oriented; and he cares a lot about the quality of work he is doing. Never rush any treatment, instead he takes enough time to listen to you and explain clearly the issues related to your teeth problems and his solutions to fix the problems. I'd like to thank him for the good job he did for me and absolutely I give him 5 Starts.

They are wonderful! The staff and dentist are warm and kind. It would be easy to overlook how skilled the dentist is because he is so good it felt like an easy procedure to have a couple of crowns done.

I've historically had bad experiences at the dentist but Dr. Updike and his staff are so warm, friendly, and helpful. Both the doctor and his assistant have wonderful chair-side manner that make going in for appointments anxiety free. Plus the fillings that he's done for me have been seamless and pain free!

I had my bi-annual check up this morning and was very pleased with the steps taken by staff to ensure our safety during the Covid-19 pandemic. The staff was super organized and prepared. Allie performed a few initial tests to ensure I was healthy enough to be there and answered any questions I had. I've always enjoyed my experiences at South Temple Dental and was pleased to see their efforts during these difficult times. Thank you to Sarah, Spencer, and Allie for taking good care of me! I appreciate your hard work and professionalism! :) I'd recommend this dental office to anybody who asks!

Kind, personal, attentive dental care. South Temple Dental is a small practice, but a very modern and skilled clinic with very personable and friendly people. I highly recommended this clinic.

Everyone is super friendly and you can tell that everyone really enjoys working there. They have Netflix for us to watch while we're lying down in the chair which is great. And they must have the logistics of patient scheduling figured out because there is no waiting for them to call you back after you arrive.

I've been to this office several times. I always felt like my oral care was the staff's top priority rather than feeling like a number. The hygienist showed me spots that I was missing when brushing and even recommended a toothbrush that would help me be cleaner. I have never been taught what I could be doing for better oral health.
